G115: Red Sox 10, Blue Jays 1

Red Sox - 110 250 010 - 10 14 1
Blue Jays - 100 000 000 - 1 7 0
Bill Hall went 3-for-5, with two home runs and four RBI, and Clay Buchholz limited the Blue Jays to one unearned run over eight innings (8-5-1-2-4, 109).

Hall's dongs broke a 1-1 tie in the second and extended Boston's lead to 4-1 in the fourth, respectively. Boston broke the game open with no outs in the fifth, as J.D. Drew homered, Victor Martinez and David Ortiz singled, and Adrian Beltre homered, ending Marcum's (4-7-8-3-3, 92) night. Brian Tallet came in and allowed a double to Mike Lowell and a one-out RBI single to Hall.

In the eighth, Darnell McDonald, who had subbed for Drew in right, tripled and scored on Victor's single. ... Lowell had a big night, with two singles, a double, and a bases loaded walk.

The Yankees beat the Rangers 7-6, keeping Boston 5 GB in the East. The Rays lost to the Tigers 3-2, so the Red Sox are 3.5 GB Tampa Bay in the WC.
Example
Clay Buchholz / Shaun Marcum
Scutaro, SS
Drew, RF
Martinez, C
Ortiz, DH
Beltre, 3B
Lowell, 1B
Kalish, LF
Hall, 2B
Ellsbury, CF
Buchholz has allowed more than three runs in only one of his 13 starts since May 14. In that time, he has a 2.14 ERA.

Marcum has started against Boston twice this season, April 27 (outdueled by Buchholz) and May 12, allowing six hits, four walks, and one run in 14 innings.

Of Interest: Rays/Tigers at 1 and Yankees/Rangers at 8.

Also: If a foul ball is heading towards you and your girlfriend, (a) do not act like a stereotypical 1950s housewife on a stool shrieking at a mouse and (b) try to come up with a better excuse for your behaviour than this guy.
Example
August 11:

1864 - Now that's run support! The Atlantics of Brooklyn finish a four-game series sweep in Philadelphia: 64-10, 65-10, 58-11, 43-16.

1961 - The Vancouver Mounties of the Pacific Coast League steal nine bases in one inning against the Salt Lake City Bees, including two triple steals.

Just listening to Michael Kay on the radio........He was all over Jeter, saying he couldn't put down a bunt and was amazed he didn't beat out a slow grounder to Guzman who the flipped to Andrus then threw out Jeter at first....Also calling out Teixera questioning why he needs 2 days off since his newborn and wife are doing well.......

If you really want to punish yourselves, why don't you slam your scrotum in a car door? That would be less painful.

Lost in the lights. I'll say.

Instead of playing the uber human, bring her your back-up glove, if she doesn't have one, and remind her to keep her eye on the ball.

I want to be 4 GB the Chokers tomorrow morning. I have asked Cliff Lee to help us. It shall be done.

Blogger is running out a new comment dashboard thing. Turns out it was added to JoS last night and some comments were classified as spam, including two of mine! They were the post-game "Muddy" comment and a screenshot of one of the homophobic comments our dear troll says he never never never left (so you can go back and see that if you like.) It also dumped a comment of Benjamin's. They have all been restored, according to L.

maybe some of marcum's problems can be traced back to that silly facial hair.

Marcum saying naughty words.

Fuck MLB. This game is the freebitold the night to watch on mobile phones but is blacked out for me. Because if I'm on a mobile phone I can so easily tune into a tv. Right.

allan said...

hey shawn, you still got a no-hitter!

allan said...

The new dashboard has tabs for three types of comments: spam, awaiting moderation, and published.

It lists 182,849 published comments! That must be every one ever posted.

MH, I owe you an apology from last night. I can usually pick up on obtuseness, but I guess not last night. I must have been overloaded from work. Anyway, sorry about missing the friendly barbs.

Go Sox.

radio guys big on the "if something else existed, then it would have beenb good for the jays":

if wells hadn't hurt his toe last weekend, he would have caught lowell's hit

if kalish had not broken his bat, overbay would have turned a DP on that grounder.

they are like two 8 year old kids -- "if this guy hits a homer and then the next guy doubles and then we get another homer, we'll be winning."

Always a ray of sunshine, that Mr Kay. He was a bitter old man long before his time.

allan said...

HALL!

Guy's gonna pitch the 8th and 9th, too!

laura k said...

The "icon" of Blue Jays radio is going on and on about "soft players" - leaders are those who play hurt - you know who the soft ones are, frequent visits to the training room. STFU. What good is playing hurt? When pitchers do it they screw over the whole team. Why do they have training rooms if players aren't supposed to go there? Bah.

laura k said...

I am only here tonight because of traffic.

allan said...

Wow. Jays radio is outdoing themselves in stoopid, yapping about how TOUGH wells is and how "soft" players are bad because they are in the trainers room all the time. real "rub some dirt in it" and play school. sure, can't throw, can't swing, can't run, may fuck up your body and ruin your career, but by golly i'm a gonna play a meaningless game in mid-august.

Everyone appears unanimous about Tallet's facial hair.

Back to Red Sox radio on the computer. Last night we couldn't get it so we turned on the actual radio. But they're driving us friggin nuts tonight, so it's back to basics.

As A said, the lesser of three evils.

Has anyone her ever flown Porter Airlines?

Benjamin said...

I would think silence would be the least.

allan said...

L's mother has flown Porter to see us a couple of times.

allan said...

while L was getting sox radio fired up, she turned on jays tv -- first thing she heard was buck martinez saying what a "solid pick-up" john lackey has been for boston.

allan said...

rish says wells catches flo's fly on "the edge of the track". 20 feet in is now "on the edge"?

allan said...

laura k said...

I know lots of people who fly Porter. Since they fly out of downtown Toronto, it's very popular here.

laura k said...

and promptly hit mute

laura k said...

Benajamin, thanks for that link, some good ones in there. "John Quincy Adams called, he wants his mutton chops back."

Amy said...

Evening, all. I see we are closer proof at the moment! I have been helping out here in Brooklyn. Hard to watch the game on the computer. (No MLB package or anything.)

laura k said...

I would think silence would be the least.

I can't do that because I want to be able to look away from the TV. To thread, for example. No sound, I miss too much.

laura k said...

Hey Amy :)

allan said...

if you only have radio, rish is making shit up. that hit to CF was a hard line dive, not a soft hit.

Amy said...

I have the Yankee game on. It must be hard to be a Sox fan out of town. I have new found respect for all you non-New England residents.

I bet I could tune into Harvey's MLB, but he is home, and I bet he is signed on to watch the Yankees. He should be here, and I should be there! But then I wouldn't be with Nate....

laura k said...

Microwave!

laura k said...

Oh man, that was painful, watching Victor run. Catchers.

laura k said...

Amy, you can probably sign in to MLBTV even if Harvey is using it. Allan and I have done that many times.

Amy said...

OK, I will try!

laura k said...

I'm only here tonight because there's construction on the highway we take into Toronto. There was so much traffic on my way to my meeting, I gave up and came home.

This construction is going to continue for a long time, too. :(

allan said...

salty alert!

laura k said...

Salty's in!

Amy said...

It worked!

allan said...

i could have given you my login, but good.

Benjamin said...

Amy might not be able to watch on MLBTV if she's home market.

Benjamin said...

SO MUCH FOR THAT THEORY

Amy said...

Good thing his password was so obvious!

allan said...

castig: "tex 4-1, and threatening for more"

Amy said...

Benjamin, I am in NYC so not the home market. Harvey uses this to watch the NYY in Massachusetts.

allan said...

murphy up with sacks full.
make harvey mad.

Amy said...

Yankees just failed to get a runner out in a rundown between home and third. Rarely see that happen.

laura k said...

I think that's what Benjamin's all caps meant. :)

Amy said...

Texas winning 6-1 now.

laura k said...

Murph comes through

allan said...

Amy's update beats Rish's.

Amy said...

The Blue Jays announcers are very impressed with HH.

Edward Lee said...

Yankees just failed to get a runner out in a rundown between home and third. Rarely see that happen.

This was beautiful. Michael Young ran on contact from third and got hung up. Rodriguez throws to Posada at home. Young turns around, but Rodriguez lingers in the basepath, screening Posada's throw back to Jeter (now covering third). Rodriguez eventually gets out of the way, throw goes to Jeter, Young slides in under the tag.

laura k said...

Playing the Jays is so much fun.

laura k said...

Who aren't the Blue Jays annrs impressed with?

RedSoxDiehard said...

Gee, too bad NESN already handed out a corporate-sponsored "Double play of the week" on a routine 5-4-3 early in the game. On Wednesday, no less.

'Cause that was a pretty impressive play by Scutaro just now.

Amy said...

Thanks, Edward. I never could have gotten all that detail! It all happened so fast that I was just stunned to see the end result.

Amy said...

Remember I never heard the Jays anncrs so now I see why you all moan and groan a bit.

laura k said...

Great description, EL, thanks.

Amy said...

Now 6-2.

allan said...

Amy beats Castig with the 6-2!

Amy said...

Nothing like live TV, I guess.

allan said...

The water is Muddy!!!

Amy said...

Dirty water!

laura k said...

Don't drink the water! It is double-digit dirty!

allan said...

Roll on, Rangers!

allan said...

MFY - 000 101
TEX - 100 230

Amy said...

Guess I will keep watching the Yankees. Wish I could have seen more of the Sox game. Nate has to start going to sleep earlier!

Amy said...

Damn, grounds rule double, and the score is 6-3 with two on, one out.

Amy said...

Come on, Rangers.

Amy said...

Damn, why are they leaving this pitcher in?? 6-4 now. Idiots.

Amy said...

Ok, signing off. Will just have to watch the rest of this one alone.

allan said...

Maybe HR *are* rally killers. I see the MFY got a run in the 8th to make it TEX 6-5, but it was only a solo dong from Thames. No on-going drama with men on base.

SoSock said...

Dear Rangers
Please do not blow this
Thank you,
RSN

SoSock said...

damn, 2 men out, no outs for freaking Stankies. C'mon Rangers, grow a pair

allan said...

Another trademark CI BS single.

Benjamin said...

Rangers forgot to kill this rally dead.

allan said...

Are the goddamn fucking Rangers gonna roll over for us, too?

SoSock said...

Shit - Freaking Rangers coughing it up.

Better do the same for us is all I got to say.

SoSock said...

"A-Rod whiffs for the 3rd time tnight". Almost as nice as hearing "Fruitbat blowing it"

Not quite, but close

allan said...

1 out TRIPLE OFF FRUITBAT!!

allan said...

0 out TRIPLE, sorry, but now a short fly to RF, no chance to tag

allan said...

0 out TRIPLE, sorry, but now a short fly to RF, no chance to tag

allan said...

Hamilton, you asshole: 1-3. 2 outs.

allan said...

come on, the mfy want to blow it, come on.

SoSock said...

damn, just.....damn

allan said...

okay, vlad, up to you.

allan said...

fuck the rangers.

SoSock said...

shit, just.....shit

Benjamin said...

Hey look, a squandered triple. *Sigh*

SoSock said...

WTF!?

Tying run at 3rd with no outs and you can't get that run home? Pathetic

allan said...

Golden opportunity. Tying run on 3rd, NO fucking outs. Jesus.

Oh well, we'll just keep winning. And We'll stick it to those fuckers on Friday.

'Night ....

Mrs.GotRibe No worries. I'm new here and rarely not obtuse. :)

Sorry I couldn't be here for the drubbing tonight ;)

I had a dog emergency; and doggies come first. He's a 13 year old Golden Retriever, the nicest dog in the world - and he's sick. I think it's something he ate.

The owner is back in town and taking care of it. Waiting for news...

Hell in real time for a dog sitter.

laura k said...

That is also a dog owner's nightmare - being away and your dog gets sick! Especially an old dog. I'm glad the people are back, I hope the pup is ok.

Michael Holloway said...

Thanks L,

The Buddy's family was out of communication range so they didn't know, so the hell was all mine (and the dog's), until they arrived to pick him up at 7:07.
