Red Sox - 001 700 100 00 - 9 13 1Nelson Cruz crushed Tim Wakefield's only pitch to deep left to give the Rangers the win in a game Boston at one point led 8-2.
Rangers - 110 220 210 01 - 10 17 1
After Boston scored seven times in the fourth -- the inning being kicked off by three consecutive home runs from David Ortiz, Adrian Beltre, and J.D. Drew -- the Sox bats were pretty quiet.
Drew clubbed a second dong, in the seventh, but the Texas pen retired the last 11 Red Sox hitters and 14 of the last 15. At the same time, the Rangers' bats were clawing back to tie the game against Felix Doubront and Daniel Bard.
The Royals beat the Yankees 4-3 and the Orioles beat the Rays 5-0. So the night wasn't a total fucking waste.Josh Beckett / Tommy Hunter
Following three nice starts coming off the disabled list, Beckett was mauled by the Yankees last Sunday. A few readers wondered why Beckett pitches so badly against the Yankees. I thought it might have been a matter of perception, because I know there have been some gems along the way, but Beckett has been the worst regular season starter against New York in the last half-century (minimum 20 starts). It's not even close.Ellsbury, CF

August 13, 1902 - Leading the Tigers by at least five runs in the sixth inning, Philadelphia's Harry Davis is on first and attempts a double steal with Dave Fultz, who is on third. Davis does not draw a throw as he slides safely into second, so Fultz stays put. On the next pitch, Davis "steals" first base and decides to try again. When he breaks for second a second time, Detroit catcher Fritz Buelow throws down, and Fultz is able to score from third. Two other players will "steal first" -- Fred Tenney on July 31, 1908 and Germany Schaefer on August 4, 1911 -- before it becomes against the rules in 1920.
Big celebration in Winston-Salem yesterday as we welcomed our Little Leaguers home. Semi-Finalists in the Southeast Regional, no less! It's the closest any team from our league has come to making it to Williamsport. Watched them play on ESPN2 with a friend and her son, who was on that All Star team last year with a lot of the same kids. Pretty cool to see all these kids and their parents that you know and work with around the complex on the national network.
It's very dissappointing to get that close and not make it, as rarely as the opportunity shows itself, but one can't help but be very proud of how well they did to get that far. And even though I've never coached any of these kids, (I coach the older age groups, including a couple of their siblings), I still feel like a part of the team. I can't help but take a certain pride in being a part of the organization that put this team on the field. I've been working with this Little League since well before any of these kids were born and since long before their parents and coaches became involved here, so there's definitely a sense of reward in seeing this happen.
Maybe next year.............
Pretty cool. Is that the best showing for a team in your league *ever* in the LLWS?
AFAIK you can still steal first on a passed ball or wild pitch in softball.
should of flattened that fucker. out of the baseline!
From being at bat I mean
that's just reaching on a WP/PB, like on strike 3, right? no SB given for that.
this is actually running with the pitch back to first!
The master of bad ball hitting strikes again :(
In softball you are allowed to steal first on strike 1 or 2 if there is a PB or WP as far as I know.
i don't know. you are probably right.
fucking weak ass inf hits
bad defensive coverage, idk wtf Lowrie was going
jesus, beckett. stop sucking.
I wonder if Hamilton and Washington go to NA meetings together
only 1 run allowed - pretty good.
I just bought a book on baseball ghost stories, the 2nd one this guy has written.
who is the author?
100+ in Arlington for 10 striaght days?!?!? Yoinks.
SoSock, very cool re LLWS, despite the disappointment. Hopefully the kids will feel that later, too.
100+ in Arlington for 10 striaght days?!?!?
Thus my friends from Texas tell me it is never hot in Toronto.

Mickey Bradley: Haunted Baseball
Also: crap. 2-0
Also Dan Gordon.
One hotel (Milwaukee?) is supposedly haunted. Dozens of players have stories.
Troy Soos had a series of murder mysteries. I read the Fenway one, set in 1912. Pretty good.
AH!
It is in Milwaukee. The Pffffffffffffffffffister Hotel.
(springsteen tip)
Is that the famous Milwaukee hotel, The Pfister?
JEDI MIND TRICK DONG
Lowrie uses the force!
STRONG-ARMED JEDI DONG!
bat him #2, not scutaro for fucks sake terry
We were supposed to go there on our 1999 trip. We left Milwaukee early because... you know why.
It had been recommended to me by many people, to go for a drink. Beautiful restored historic hotel.
oh man - ...
Yeah right, Don. Showalter has turned things around for the Orioles.
Milwaukee makes me sad

The famous bomb scare incident show, where the performance had to be stopped for over 90 minutes due to a phone-in bomb threat. The pre-bomb scare part of the show circulates only as an audience recording – however the remainder of the performance is circulating as a pro-recorded soundboard. The band had spent its time during the delay in a nearby bar and it's evident as the show gets back underway that Bruce has had a few drinks - repeatedly and hilariously asking the audience "Are you loose?" during "Little Queenie". There is also an exceptionally long rendition of "E Street Shuffle" (24+ minutes) that includes a 14-minute intro!

Hi Everyone,
I've been busy lately. Both kids here and gone, birthdays, guests, and almost no more workmen. Little threading time.
Yesterday was a tough loss to stomach.

LET'S DO 4, DR.
4-2 - even with the dongs, it still seems like a quick hook.
MFY - 00
KCR - 03
If you can't do anything but give up dongs, a quick hook is advised, IMO.
I should go eat pot roast during games more often.
let's have a non-solo dong.
Self-ownage
17 minute wait so far.
keep it going!
yay for crooked numbers in an inning.
MAKE JOSH WAIT!

.... could be more crooked.
The second book from Bradley that I just bought is "Field of Screams"
Pot roast is the new spinach?
I love batting around.
Weee, fun!!!
yee hah!
How did LBJ get on base? I missed it.
And the hits just keep coming.
still not crooked enough.
LBJ on by way of error (at least I assume they called it an E).
LBJ: E4, trying to rush the play, bobbled it
Papi hustling all the way.
thanks for the info
8 is pretty crooked! but i hear 9 is even crookeder
7 is pretty straight, when you think about it.

GDGD just put Patterson in CF.
Don just pronounced Deutsche Bank as "Doo-cha"
Amy, I'm sure everyone was thinking of you yesterday afternoon. Fortunately, I was unable to catch the game. I didn't know what happened until I got home and went straight to JoS.
It's funny how I check this site for info even before going to mlb or redsox for scores, line, etc.
hunter had stomach bug too. so he was pulled early
This is fucking awesome! Just don't blow the lead again, guys...
MrsG, I also check here first. I didn't hear/see yesterday's game. But I was glad to miss that.
Shit, Michael Young closes the gap,
Come on get it together now
attell up
Commander Suck Ass
Wow home run derby tonight
I was just saying that he can give up a lot of home runs..................
Are they stalling here trying to get Atchison warmed up?
OMG, can we not keep at least a four run lead ever?
I really hate baseball sometimes.
LBJ would have had that.
JB throwing BP
What is Murphy's avg. vs the Red Sox?
gotta be his last inning if he can finish it
Murphy vs Sox (before tonight):

Joe, I think you and I should go with our JoS Red Sox nicknames on Twitter, simultaneous... confuse the townsfolk.
Remy talking about thinking he broke a rib yesterday... Don says, "Did Adrian Beltre come at you?"
haha okay
Our nicknames are so much better, anyways. What the hell is a Scoots?
They don't even understand the term "dong."
Is it sad that I didn't feel totally awesome when the Red Sox dropped 7 runs on them in one inning?
JoS nicknames truly trump all
let's go felix.
nice pitch on the black for strike 2!
That was unlucky.
BARD!
gotta shut 'em down NOW, so bard here and thru the 8th, i hope.
OMG
What was that????
go for the K. no ball in play. that has been bad tonight!
mfy in another rain delay?
You fucking badass, Daniel Bard.
K!
bard at 13 - will we see MDC at all or will tito try to go with Bard/Bot?
delayed with royals batting in bot 5. KC 4-3, 1 out, guy on first.
hold the line and hope texas runs out of innings.
About ghosts at Fenway, Carl Beane has seen Sherm Feller in the booth after games and the overnight security shift often say they hear game and crowd sounds after the lights go off.
How about runs please?
you know what would be really scary? seeing the image of carl beane on a dark night.
I assume that those games feature players of different eras, for example Harry Agganis facing Catfish Hunter.
Peter Abraham, being an ASSHOLE:
"Ellsbury update
The official report on Ellsbury: Left side pain.
The unofficial report is up to you. But it sure looks bad that he took himself out of the game. I'm sure we'll get a full report in two months after he gets back from Arizona and gets his statement written."

This guy is becoming the Jordan of baseball
he is hitting a baseball better than jordan ever did...
It's never easy.
Lowell is a cool cat.
oh yeah, try that shit, vlad.
Another one of those 99mph two-seamers, plz.
vlad: we'll send beltre after you, so watch out.
BOT up - yay!
Ish--I started talking about so-&-so hitting a dong one day after class.... Some funny looks. I just forgot that it was JOS talk.
LOOOOOOOOOOVE the hacking.
Jesus.

NO LEAD IS EVER SAFE.
season high pitches for bard.
Woo-hoo!
Early night for me tonight, comparatively speaking anyway.
Sounds like we're up. Yay! Pulling up GDGD as we speak
Hamilton is the best player since Ted Williams
We WERE up...
For the Red Sox sake I wish he would make like Slim Pickens and get back on the H-Bomb.
Hamilton is the best player since Ted Williams
Albert Pujols may be paying you a visit.
Ugh. Spoke too soon
Be glad I'm not here in hockey fan mode, hardcore hockey fans chant for players to die all the time
"Drive a Porsche Hextall.."
dong hat trick?
shit - mdc up
Pujols dosn't have the speed IMO.
Was that inning 5 pitches or something?
8 pitches.
Amy and Ish both put up jinxes earlier in the thread
MDC = ass-clinching time
I jinxed?
albert has 10 years to hamilton's 4 -- and his stats dwarf hamilton.
hamilton - 27 SB in 4 years
pujols - 72 SB in 10 years
about equal at 7 per.
Ish; "This is fucking awesome! Just don't blow the lead again, guys..."
"Curse of the Ishbino"?
no - no one with the name "tea garden" is going to beat us.
come on manny - i want to like you.
Walk the 2nd sub for the #7 batter - a guy with a 122 avg. That's a great strategy.
Oh, right. My bad!
Start the Mr. Coffee
Bonus Baseball
can we win this one quickly? i took a train in to work today and have to bolt at 12:20 or so at the latest to get the last one back to the 'burbs.
I hope Bot was watching Feliz pitch, maybe he can learn something about being a closer.
That was quick. Can we do the same plz?
BOT
RS, I'm reading this between innings:

jeff: i'm surprised you bother coming back to the game.
scutaro scoots!!
Why surprised?
BBI Hamilton?
Oh, because it's a good article (and really long)?
just keep it in the park, you hick.
seems more enjoyable than the game, that's all. (also partly a wise-ass comment.)
Well, yeah, it has been frustrating these last two games.
I read his lobster article last week. A classic.
