Needing A Healthy Back-Up Catcher, Sox Call Up Luis Exposito

The Red Sox have called up catcher Luis Exposito from Pawtucket and put Bobby Jenks back on the disabled list.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia was going to catch Wakefield on Wednesday night, but was vomiting during the day and "was sent to the hospital to rule out anything but the flu", according to Terry Francona. "We've got a lot going on right now. ... We're kind of scrambling here a little bit." Salty was tested for appendicitis, but apparently had nothing more than a "stomach illness" or "intestinal turmoil".

Exposito, 24, has not been hitting very well with the PawSox (.223/.277/.331, though he has batted .293 in his last 15 games), but the Red Sox need a healthy back-up catcher.

John Lackey said that he had "more normal soreness than actual pain" in his right elbow after his start on Sunday.
I know I have damage in there already [Lackey had issues with the elbow in 2009], so you never know for sure. But every pitcher will find something. Some of us just got a little more than others. ... It's going to get worse eventually, but the shot got the swelling down so things aren't hitting against each other. ... It's probably going to be something I have to stay on top of.
Tommy John Surgery Calendar:
Rich Hill - Thursday, June 9, Pensacola, Florida, Dr. James Andrews
Daisuke Matsuzaka - Friday, June 10, Los Angeles, California, Dr. Lewis Yocum
Anthony Rizzo, one of the players the Red Sox traded to San Diego for Adrian Gonzalez, will be in the Padres' lineup tomorrow against the Nationals' Livan Hernandez. Rizzo, 21, has been destroying AAA pitching in Tucson. In 52 games, he's batting .365 with 16 homers, 20 doubles, 63 RBI, and a 1.159 OPS.

This call-up could be a big plus for a certain who-is-this-guy law prof!
