Workman (6.1-2-2-1-5, 103) retired the first 10 Oakland batters and did not allow a hit until Coco Crisp led off the seventh inning with a single.

Newly-acquired reliever Matt Thornton walked Chris Young to start the eleventh. After a sacrifice bunt and a ground out, Thornton walked Derek Norris and gave up a single to Josh Donaldson, who drove in all three Oakland runs. His two-run dong in the seventh ended Workman's afternoon.

Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Dustin Pedroia had two. FY and Brock Holt drove in Boston's runs.

The Red Sox go into the All-Star break with a 58-39 record (only 11 fewer wins than they had all of last season!). The Red Sox lead the Rays by 2.5 games. Next game: Friday night at Fenway against the Yankees (6.0 GB).
