Dustin Pedroia had a successful cartilage restoration procedure on his left knee today.
He is expected back in "approximately seven months", which would mean June 2018.
Pedroia played in only 105 games last season, having one of the worst seasons at the plate of his career (.293/.369/.392).
Although Pedroia, 34, had arthroscopic surgery last October to repair a torn meniscus, he was troubled by his knee throughout 2017.
After September 1, Pedroia slugged only .318 and he went 2-for-16 in the team's ALDS loss to the Astros.
