G54: Red Sox 11, Yankees 6

Yankees - 010 004 100 - 6 12 2
Red Sox - 001 202 51x - 11 14 0
The Yankees blew three leads today -- and dropped back to 13.5 GB. (Yeah, Friday was a spark. Pfft.)

According to Fox, the Yankees have blown leads and lost in 6 of the 11 games they have played this year against Boston (overall they are 4-7). And from the 7th inning on in those 11 games, the Red Sox have outscored them 31-8.

The Sox got five in the 7th today -- thanks to a leadoff double from Ortiz, three walks from Proctor, singles from Crisp and Pedroia (who was 3-for-5 in the 2-hole), a sac fly from Lugo and two errors from Jeter.

But Mike Lowell was the star of the game, walking in the 2nd, singling in a run in the 4th and them ramming into Cano between first and second trying to break up a possible double play, hitting a solo home run to start the sixth, and doubling in a run in the 8th. He also made some nice plays at third, starting inning-ending double plays in the 5th and 6th, and making a bare-handed grab-and-gun in the 8th, retiring Cabrera.

***

Mike Mussina (5.86, 72 ERA+) / Curt Schilling (3.68, 121 ERA+)

Proctor on hitting Yook:
I can understand why Youkilis was mad at me. Any time you get a ball thrown at your head ... But if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it on the first pitch. I'm not going to do it 2-2 and waste four pitches. That's stupid.
Or you do it on a 2-2 pitch, so you can say how stupid it would be to do it on a 2-2 pitch.

way to go CC!

now lets keep it going, 17 more boys

s1c said...

Couple of more ab's and Youkilis will get the chance to extend his streak.

laura k said...

McC thought maybe Lowell was in Jeter's way, then he saw the replay and said, "Nope, Jeter had a clear shot, that's just a big old boot."

A big old boot, that is.

Ron said...

Ok, can somebody explain to me why Proctor didn't get pulled during the Maphabet injury timeout? Surely they could have gotten somebody ready in that time. MFY had already made a call to the bullpen two hitters earlier. Does Tore have a head injury?

Baffled.

s1c said...

Lugo 4 for 10 bags full

laura k said...

I swear, no one's gonna win that walkoff contest!

allan said...

HA HA!!!

tim said...

still 4/10, yes?

doesnt a sac fly not count as anything?

laura k said...

McC: "The Yankees just butchered up that last play just as badly as you can butcher anything. They look like they haven't got a clue. It's the Keystone Kops out there!"

tim said...

YES DP!!!!!

we've gotta get into this pen sooner!

allan said...

More! More! More!

s1c said...

Tim that's a big 10 4 on stil 4 for 10.

McC: "The Yankees just butchered up that last play just as badly as you can butcher anything. They look like they haven't got a clue. It's the Keystone Kops out there!"

lmfao, that was great.....i'm coming around to McC now.

Bruney looks so bad ass...maybe even a BAMF, what with that cross tat on his left hand.

allan said...

sac = no at bat

laura k said...

I love Dusty.

lmfao, that was great.....i'm coming around to McC now.

Imagine how bad the Yankees have to be for that to happen!

laura k said...

fucking a, eh?

Pour it on baby pour it on. eei guys saying abreu should have caught Ortiz's ball. Is that right? Opened the flood gates, etc. Tiz batting .373 with 2 outs.

allan said...

don't be fooled by mcmoron. blind squirrell, etc.

allan said...

abreu did get turned around a bit. yeah it was catchable.

they be ripping wily mo a new one if he had been out there.

"jeemer in the 8th, bot in the 9th"

tim said...

...eei guys saying abreu should have caught Ortiz's ball. Is that right?

Yeah, he was there way ahead of time, just didn't know how to play it apparently. According to Buck, he hates catching anything near walls. Which explains why he's in RF...

Anyway hamburger time, will tty'all l.

s1c said...

guaranteed bot in the ninth. Tito wants to go for the jugular.

laura k said...

"jeemer in the 8th, bot in the 9th"

Jeemer + Snuffer = another W

s1c said...

Mikey - is star of this game, running the base paths like he's a fullback, home runs, bare handed grabs. I want to be like Mikey!!!

Redsock - 230 + posts, whats the record?

laura k said...

Buck: "Yankees thought this could be another step in their comeback."

HA HA HA HA HA

Comeback!! Two consecutive wins does not a comeback make. They've only won as many as 3 games in a row twice this season.

laura k said...

s1c, I was also just thinking that re posts. you're in my brain.

s1c said...

Comes from being the only male in the family LOL.

Youkilis only Sox without a hit, come on Youuuuuk.

allan said...

reading the papers, various players (including damon) thought yesterday could be a park.

spark this!

(this is the record.)

laura k said...

Hmmm, McC is casting doubts on the Fathead injury.

"I'm mystified about the wording of the Clemens injury. A fatigued groin? Is it pulled? Is it injured? If it's fatigued, well, lots of pitchers play with a fatigued groin. It sounds a little.. I'm unclear about it. This is some fatigue."

s1c said...

Good for McC. After all this is the guy that used to catch Gibson (mho the best rightie I ever saw).

allan said...

TCM's groin: "I don't wanna go play for a loser!"

laura k said...

"After all this is the guy that used to catch Gibson"

And never lets us forget it. :)

I wish I could have seen Gibson pitch. I love hearing about him.

s1c said...

Damon's going to hit for nieves? Youkilis's streak goes down in flames but that is OK.

allan said...

Gibson (mho the best rightie I ever saw)

umm ...

...

...

(don't make me get out the stats)

:>)

laura k said...

His groin talking, LOL, very good.

Well, until you actually picture it, then... ewwww

s1c said...

Petey's a very close second, but Gibson was just intimadating.

allan said...

But Yook walked 3 times -- on base more often today than lugo, tek, pena and crisp.

laura k said...

It's like Schilling and Mussina were never part of this game.

allan said...

Petey's a very close second, but Gibson was just intimadating.

Grumble, grumble .......

laura k said...

Mikey again!!! Do we love this man or what???!!!

laura k said...

Re Petey/Gibson, s1c did say "that I ever saw". That's a personal thing. You know how that goes.

Mike Lowell says:

It's about doing

what it takes

to win.

allan said...

Lowell's $9M seems like a bargain these days.

laura k said...

McC and Buck are (rightly) excoriating Selig for possibly not being there when Bonds breaks the record.

s1c said...

L-girl I agree Selig should be there, Aaron should not be there. Still gripes when Bonds said he got harassed etc as much as Aaron. Bonds is Clueless!! Pampered kid while Aaron faced death threats.

allan said...

McC and Buck are (rightly) excoriating Selig for possibly not being there when Bonds breaks the record.

They are right. He's the Commish and the Commish must be there. He must put his personal feelings aside. It's as simple as that.

s1c said...

Can see it know if the MFY's tie this game (and they better not I got to get some sleep). Damon playing first while phelps goes behind the plate.

laura k said...

I'd like Aaron to be there, but that's a personal choice. It's Selig's duty, it's his job.

Anncrs saying what does it say about MLB's drug testing policy if he's not there? Bonds has never failed an MLB test, never tested positive for steroids. If Selig's not there, it admits the sport has completely mangled the whole thing.

I agree that Bonds has no business comparing himself to what Aaron went through. I wonder, does he know the extent of it?

Man, if Selig's not there... grrr...

allan said...

if they tie it, lowell will win it with a triple that gives him the cycle. bank on it.

laura k said...

What are they chanting at Fenway?

laura k said...

MY GAME JUST TURNED OFF!!!! Fox went to another program!!!!

s1c said...

laura k said...

laura k said...

hahahaha, awesome.

hells yeah, caught the final two watching tv and eating on the patio...perfect, hockey is just getting underway - later everyone!

Benjamin said...

Lowell nailed Minky at first, not Cano at second. Cano wasn't even at second on that play (hence the Jeter error on the throw to first).

allan said...

right. i was thinking of his play in the 4th.

Shitload o' posts today!

Unemployment is fun. Well, except for the money thing.

tim said...

hahaha, isnt unemployment in canada great. ive got a job but its the classic 37.5 hr/week scenario, if that. its a relaxed job, except for when your working on something and the boss comes in and says "is that done yet? the client's coming in in an hour and it needs to be done"

then it gets stressful :P

good ol' co-op.

tim said...

what the deuce, just looked at the standings. ive been so concentrated on the lead over MFY, i completely neglected to see who was actually behind us and i had to do a double take to see which team it was and WOW.

we are good.

The Yankees simply aren't a physical team with grit and they get embarrassed when they try to be. For examples, see the A-Rod elbow, A-Rod "mine" call, and they way the Yankees fell apart when the Red Sox got physical with them tonight.
