Angels - 003 200 010 - 6 11 0Ellsbury gave the Sox a 1-0 lead with a home run to start the first. After Pauley retired the first six Angels, his slider stopped sliding, his pitches stayed up and the Angels battered him for three runs in the third and two more in the fourth.
Red Sox - 100 131 01x - 7 16 1
Down 5-1, Boston began its comeback in the fourth, as Lugo doubled home Drew. Pedroia doubled to start the fifth, and he scored on Manny's single. Then Youkilis bopped a dong to left and the game was tied at 5-5. Ellsbury smacked his second home run of the night with two outs in the sixth, putting the Red Sox back on top.
Okajima worked out of a two-on, no-out Tavarez mess in the seventh, but surrendered a solo home run to Kotchman leading off the eighth. Jeemer got the next two outs on only three pitches, but gave up a double to Aybar (his third of the game). Timlin came in -- gulp! -- and got Figgins on a grounder to short.
With one out in eighth, Ellsbury beat out a drag bunt to first. Shields came in and was quite focused on Lyndon, making three throws to first while falling behind Pedroia 2-1. FY ripped a line drive past third, down the line and into the corner. Ellsbury scored standing up, Pedroia had his third double of the night, and Boston led 7-6.
Papelbon pitched a no-nonsense ninth. He threw 11 pitches and all but one of them was 98 or 99; the other one was 100. He fanned Matthews on three pitches, got Vlad on a check-swing strike three and forced Anderson to pop to Manny in left.
Sixth straight win -- 15-7 record -- 110-win pace. Good times!

Jered Weaver (3.60, 117 ERA+) / David Pauley (2006 Sox: 16 IP, 7.88, 60 ERA+)
UPDATE from Amalie Benjamin, Globe:
Josh Beckett [5.12, 86 ERA+] has been pulled from tonight's start because of a stiff neck. David Pauley will start in his place. Joe Thurston was designated for assignment to make room for Pauley on the roster.Jeff Horrigan, Herald:
Jason Varitek was so ill this weekend that he was unable to drive himself to the ballpark Sunday.Manny Ramirez was named AL Co-Player of the Week for April 14-20. He hit .417 (10-for-24) with four homers and eight RBI in seven games. He shared the honor with Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers. It's the 10th time Manny has won the award as a Sock, and the 16th time in his career, the most of any player in history.
Kevin Cash, who caught Tim Wakefield in Sunday's victory, played again yesterday. Red Sox manager Terry Francona indicated Varitek may need another day off tonight against the Angels.
And Josh Beckett was forced to head home prior to Sunday's game against Texas after becoming ill.

oh fucking A, I can't believe he caught that.
WOW!
Jeez, MBM wuz robbed.
It was against us, but WOW that was awesome.
Ish shows up and gets #201!
s1c's PB and maple syrup sounds delish. I've never had that, maybe next time we're in Vermont. People are always pushing maple syrup on us there, we never know what to do with it.
That sounds like a good idea. There's no shortage of maple syrup around these parts in April.
I can drink grade B maple syrup I love it so much. 'A' has nothing on it
Impeccable timing. I came back from the living room at 186 comments.
YOUUUUUK!!!!!!
SWEATY DONG TO DIE THE GAME!!!!
Youk!!!
Maple syrup, not to be confused with corn syrup. Worst insult ever to a pancake is that fake corn syrup based crap they call "pancake syrup" and color to look like maple syrup.
I LOVE KEVIN YOUKILIS!!!
YOOOOOOOOOUK!
That was one sweaty dong!
YOOOOOOOOOK
TIE THE GAME.
Jeez. Wake up, fingers.
God damn i love these assholes
PB and syrup was part of the diet, was an approved snack.
Manny gets a dong taken away, so Youk says "the sweaty ones are the ones you can't catch."
This team is so good, it makes me laugh. :D
God damn i love these assholes
AHHAHAHAHHAHAA
God I love this team!!!!
woops that shoulda been italicized.
This team is unbelievable. Pitcher out with a stiff neck, catcher out with a cold, 3B out with a sore thumb, etc and WE STILL COME FROM BEHIND!
Is it just me, or does it look like Jared Weaver doesn't have any teeth?
Looks the "The Face" might run in the family.
I must confess I have eaten very little maple syrup in my life, either real or fake. I don't care about it all that much. Even on the rare occasions I eat pancakes or french toast (less than once a year), I only put a tiny drop of syrup on.
But I can appreciate the difference between the real thing and the fake crap. Fake crap is fake crap.
Should the Sox win tonight, it'd be their 10th come-from-behind victory this season.
Its you ish, its you!!!
A link that goes nowhere :)
test
wanted to see how patrick did that!
Peanut butter and honey is another favorite of mine.
Getting back to tonight's theme of food.
Is it the 8th inning already?
The Face. Weaver has The Face, just like his bro. I think you find that in the glossary under Derek Lowe.

No shortage of maple syrup around these parts. The last Sunday in March is Maine Maple Sunday, where the maple syrup farms hold open houses and have festivities and show people how the maple syrup is made. Interesting stuff.
Last March I went to this one farm that had hot maple apple cider. Amazing stuff, that.
Amy, you are so right, re: both maple syrup and Youk!
I grew up in Virginia, eating that "pancake syrup" stuff, and then I got together with Dave, four years ago, and he set me straight. I didn't realize how hooked I am on the real deal until I ordered some pancakes at a diner and was offered that dumb colored corn syrup stuff. Ewww. (That offhanded question about corn syrup really has eaten up the game thread, hasn't it? Sorry.)
PB and honey - yu-um. Also super healthy (although high caloric, but who cares).
Slugo shows CI how to go to his left.
PB and Honey?
Honey and butter was the rule when I was growing up!!! Fresh butter and took the honey right out of the comb.
The Face. Weaver has The Face, just like his bro. I think you find that in the glossary under Derek Lowe.
Speaking of his brother - he doesn't have a job yet this year.
Did David Pauley remind anyone else of Derek Lowe? He's got good stuff when he keeps it down.
NYY 2, CWS 2 (bot 2)
i've decided that theres not only no team in the world, there is no entertainment entity in the world more entertaining than the boston red sox
So, I have now entered.
It means the Red Sox will score some runs.
I had The Feeling that Weaver would have The Face.
no apologies ever needed in the game thread. some nights it's food, another night it's...
How did Patrick do that, and why?
I love pancakes and maple syrup almost more than anything---a real comfort food. It just conjures up warm memories of snow days when my mother would make pancakes for us to celebrate NO SCHOOL!
Actually I think the brother got signed by the brewers. He should fit right in with gagme.
Fresh butter and took the honey right out of the comb.
Amazing. Where was that? In the south somewhere, IIRC.
Mayo with broccoli is better than it sounds.
Favourite comfort foods?
Amy says pancakes & syrup?
Mine is mashed potatoes.
When I whooped at Youk's dong, my roommate came out of his room, where he is weeping over Andrew Lloyd Webber night on American Idol. He just looked at me and said, "Well, I guess we know who the man of the house is."
would make pancakes for us to celebrate NO SCHOOL!
We always used waffles for celebrations. Made waffles the morning after the ws in '04. mmmm!!!
In Newfoundland I couldn't find pizza for sale that didn't have bologna in it under the cheese. Newfies love Bologna.
PB + chocolate!
...
that reminded me of the time lips tried to pick a guy off 2B by running to the base with the ball!!!!
John Henry called Remy about his sick day? That's very nice.
Actually I think the brother got signed by the brewers. He should fit right in with gagme.
Yes, yes he should. Too bad Kapler has to deal with them. He batted in the winning run for them in the 12th today, I believe.
A-Rod's wife gave birth today. So he's not in the lineup. Just another excuse to cover up that quad thing.
Unless he was calling to tell him he was being docked a day's pay. :)
John Henry called Remy about his sick day? That's very nice.
Henry: Who is this Ken Macha person? When are you coming back?
Mashed potatoes (made with heavy cream and lots of butter - heart attack style) or homemade baked Mac & Cheese. MMMM...
Or country ham and biscuits. (I did mention I'm from Virginia right?)
I can't believe I am talking about pancakes during Passover. Sigh. Only 5 days to go.
"Well, I guess we know who the man of the house is."
very cool :)
L-girl, I grew up in the south. Born in NM, farthest east was Shreveport, farthest north was Tulsa, then I joined the USN and met BH while I was stationed at s1c and the rest is history!
Newfies love Bologna.
Ghandi loved Triscuits.
Hurray for Tavarez!
Lips pointing to first, telling FY to throw it there. He was pointing and running to first, he got so close Casey could have bitten his finger.
that reminded me of the time lips tried to pick a guy off 2B by running to the base with the ball!!!!
Actually, that last pitch, he did his long-look in mid-delivery to the runner at second, who scampered back to the bag. Then Lips followed through with the pitch. It didn't look stupid, for once.
Come on Amy, it's only a week. We have a gluten-free household. It's passover here every day.
he got so close Casey could have bitten his finger.
should have.
Tavarez is quite the entertaining character. I can't tell whether he just does it out of habit or if he really thinks the fielders need his direction. Either way, it is sort of adorable.
thanks s1c :)
i have heard there are some very unusual food habits in newfoundland. i'll let you know.
Do you not eat gluten, L-girl? I don't. Makes me feel like crap.
Mashed potatoes (made with heavy cream and lots of butter - heart attack style) or homemade baked Mac & Cheese. MMMM...
Oh, the potatoes, lots and lots of butter with crushed pepper mixed in, mmmmm!!!
Henry: Who is this Ken Macha person? When are you coming back?
Henry: "So nice to hear a Sox game without someone hawking his fucking t-shirts."
Gluten is not real fun to say.
My friend had a pair of newfies growing up. I'm sure they would've settled for any sandwich meat they could get. Poor things didn't live much past twelve, though.
Every household I entered in Newfoundland (at least in all the non-St. Johns towns), had a huge store of instant coffee and carnation condensed milk and white sugar.
he got so close Casey could have bitten his finger
I'da paid money to see that!
Well, sort of like you can't live without the caffeine, I am addicted to my nice fresh breads, etc. Eight days can seem like a long time not to have cereal, bread, and pasta. And pancakes (not that I have those that often.)
But it's my choice, so not comparing it to a health imposed restriction.
Allan is celiac, can't eat gluten. He does eat it, but we don't have it in the house to make it easier and safer.
And because of that, I have found that I am healthier not eating it.
I thought it would be really hard to do, but it's not.
(Of course there are exceptions, as you know if you heard about the great pizza we ordered the other night.)
How was that not safe?
Oh, I think he was safe there!
another great play
Safe.
No doubter.
definitely safe though
That is not even close!!!
LBJ!!!
BAT FLIP!!!!
ANOTHER HOME RUN FOR SIR LYNDON!
2nd DONG BABY!!!!!!!!
LBJ!! We are ahead!
JACOBY! PEACE OUT BRO
THAT'S MY BOY!!!!!!!
WHOO-HOOO!!!!! A two dong night!!!!
oh HELL yeah!
MUTHAFUCKA!!!!!!
LBJ: So, Papi, when are you going to pass me in HR's?
Hanging slider, inner half of the plate. Crushed.
Wholy crap!
FY!!!
Those crazy kids! I love it!
WOW!
I didn't know the guy had two dongs in him....
Amy, if you don't eat pancakes do you get headaches and can't concentrate? :)
I'm just teasing you over complaining about Passover. You choose to do it, as you said.
If we dong every time we get have something stolen from us, I'm all for it!
Holy shit, who is this scrawny centerfielder of ours.
I didn't know the guy had two dongs in him....
He should join the circus.
My friend had a pair of newfies growing up.
OK, I am still trying to figure out this one. Phrenile?
My friend had a pair of newfies growing up. I'm sure they would've settled for any sandwich meat they could get. Poor things didn't live much past twelve, though.
12 is old for a dog that big.
Sandwich meat :)
Every household I entered in Newfoundland (at least in all the non-St. Johns towns), had a huge store of instant coffee and carnation condensed milk and white sugar.
Instant coffee! Ewwwww.
Tue Apr 22, 09:09:00 PM
FY - 12th multi-hit game.
31 hits - most in AL
FY with the wheels!
I don't drink coffee much, so when I do it really makes me shaky. When I drank instant coffee, I would nearly seizure from the caffeine.
That sucks. Ground ball on the left side by Ortiz... 5-3.
Amy, if you don't eat pancakes do you get headaches and can't concentrate? :)
No, but if I don't get my raisin bran in the morning, I am quite the grouch and --- shall we say a bit stuffed up? TMI, I know. :)
Amy: like this.
I love good coffee. Hate the instant stuff, but if that's all there is, I'll drink it.
You build up a tolerance to caffeine, just like alcohol. If you don't drink it, it has a very strong effect. If you keep drinking it, it does not.
AWWWW what cuties!
No coffee for me. On occasion I'll have a french vanilla cappuccino from the little machine in a convenience store. Those are rather tasty.
Ohhh, the newfies were the DOGS! I thought he meant people from Newfoundland!!
I must need some caffeine.
Where is Tim, with all this food talk tonight?
And you used a link from The Daily Puppy!
Jeemer loosening.
Newfie from Wiki
Dumbo's behind the dish once again for the MFY.
I wish I had a newfie. I love them.
TMI, a TLA
NYY - 110
CWS - 02
A little bit of random trivia factoid...
Gary Matthews Jr.'s babysitter when he was 10 years old, was Barry Bonds.
Oddly enough, Matthews has been accused of using HGH.
MDC down with the flu.
Saying they made it to twelve is overstating it a bit, though. They were blind, lame, and odorous for the last couple years of those twelve.
They're lovely dogs for folks who want a pony, and any given owner is bound to outlive any given dog of any breed, but they poor things really don't last very long.
Thanks for that, Ish. ahahah
Sarah, nice avatar!
Mutts, I prefer Mutts
c'mon Sexy, lets get a dp here.
Phrenile, right, very sad. I had a friend with a Great Dane. They don't live much past 8 - 9 is ancient, as I understand. A heartbreak waiting to happen.
Jeemer time.
Mutts rock.
I like Gambit. He's so sweet. (He?)
jeemertime
Cute name, too - Gambit.
Thanks Laura! I want it on a t-shirt!
One thing that strikes me about the Angels is how stable their team is, in terms of long time players: Figgins, Anderson, Guerrero--they all seem to have been on the team a long time. And Eckstein, until he left.
Time for a pitching change.
That was a good outing by Lips, wasn't it? Except for this little jam he got the Red Sox into, but he's bridged the gap from Pauley to the back end of the pen. Job well done, and he's in line for the win.
Other Mathews trivia, when he hit his first home run, according to brother Dave, his uncle was a camera operator for tbs at the game.
We need to cue some epic music here for Jeemers entrance.
first app from jeemer since 4/15
Yeah, it's Jeemer Time!

That's one of the things the Angels fans haven't liked very much. They'd really like to see another big bat in that lineup, and all they could muster was Torii Hunter. Good in the field, decent at the dish. But not a big bopper. Anderson and Guerrero are getting old, too.
Re: dogs, as soon as I have a schedule that is more conducive to responsible dog parenthood, I'm getting the muttiest mutt I can find at the pound. I can't wait!
I want to see Jeemer pull a grand wizard here.
I always feel sorry for those big dogs also---bred to be so big that they develop hip problems very early and usually have other issues as well.
Sarah, if you make one or find one, let me know, I'd buy one too.
We need to cue some epic music here for Jeemers entrance.
Cue the duck!
Triple play, plz.
Yay for mutts from the pound! That's great, Sarah. It's so easy now, too, on the internet.
I think Tavarez has outperformed expectations---at least my expectations. He certainly kept this game under control.
Gambit is a he (14 years and counting). Was named after this guy.
A big out!!!
That double-steal attempt kept Figgins from tagging to third.
If you want an English Bull dog for cheap (or maybe free), my dad's wife used to breed them and she died last year, leaving him with a whole mess of bulldogs. He wants to be free of them.
Any of you guys want to live in Canada for 2 weeks and take care of our two mutts? We are desperately searching for a dog/house-sitter, our regular person is unavailable, backup person is gone too.
fuckety. that was bad.
cut the fancy shit, cash.
grrrrrrr
Doh.
Crap!!!
Patrick, that sucks. What is he going to do with them? Adopt them all out?
Uch, that wasn't pretty.
Ish trying desperately to get us back to baseball. :)
yeah. Give them to loving owners.
10 errors for the Sox and slugo has 6 of them (3 in one game). Ugh!!!
lame heckler: "Garrett, how's the pink eye?"
Need a K!!!
Popped up, will take that also!!!
sit down!
Which two weeks? Maybe I could talk Dave into a GTA vacation this year.
yooooook
2 down...
Ish trying desperately to get us back to baseball. :)
I'd go crazy if it was 100% baseball talk. I like these other topics.
OH JEEMER! YOU CAN SAVE US ALL!
I want run saving catch by LBJ!
lame heckler: "Garrett, how's the pink eye?"
Certainly my nickname for him is Pink Eye.
Torii Hunter didn't play the other day because he had some back and neck stiffness from when he was rear-ended in his brand new Bentley. Damn.
very sad re the bulldogs. sorry about your stepmom.
****
sarah, last two weeks of june. it's 16 days, actually. big backyard, high-speed internet and every red sox game on tv! we're about 30 mins out of downtown TO.
One more out to get. One more strike to get.
Do it, Oki!
When's Jeemer's night?
When the feelin's right.
WE LOVE YOU JEEMER
You go, OKI! What a strikeout!
Jeemer!!!
JEEMER!!!
JEEMER!!!
OH BABY, do we love you!!!
big backyard, high-speed internet and every red sox game on tv!
and all the doggie love you can soak up.
We need a Jeemer statue right next to the statue of Ted Williams outside Fenway.
he's so good
The nice thing about listening to the KLAA the LAA radio station is for some reason there is no commercial breaks. I just hear Fenway in between innings.
manny=$
I love me some Okajima.
s1c, i see gambit's real name is remy!
they must black out the local ads for the other market. nice!
That was supposed to be a pitch-out.
what was that ahahahaha
Laura, it's all about the doggie love. I'll check with Dave - we don't have anything booked there yet, and it could be fun.
Yes, thats right!!!
B-fly, loved him on the cartoons, esp. since she is part french and her dad used to live in LA. She kinda thought that was neat.
scioscia's got The Face.
Some speed from Youk there.
Youk - Anger run. Kind of like angry sex. Only sweatier.
Re Aybar, I always think they're saying I-Bar. Like his name is Ivan Barrada or something.
Lots of remy love in this house!!!
I want to see me some J.D. Dong. I say this every game, and I only get hungrier when he leaves me hanging.
no commercials? Good stuff!
OMG, Sarah, you are seriously considering it? Wow, that would be soooo cool.
It's a nice place, it would be a fun vacation, I think. Earn some money, hang out with some dogs, watch baseball.
scioscia either looks completely befuddled or like he's about to cry.
... and dealing with us in the playoffs = plenty of time for tears.
Oh, lets tattoo this guy!
uh-oh, did you all see what i just saw?
in the pen?
is it Timlin?!?!
Not Timlin in the pen? No way. Not with the game this close.
ding ding ding ding
patrick wins
(but do we really "win" if it's a timlin sighting?)
