Batting News

David Ortiz:
GM PA H AVG OBP SLG OPS
Games 1-12 12 53 3 .070 .231 .140 .371
Games 14-39 23 111 30 .306 .387 .561 .948
In 23 games since April 14, Ortiz has failed to hit safely in only four of them. And only twice in those 23 games has he failed to either get a hit or score a run (April 25 and last night). ... In his last 10 games (48 PA), Ortiz is hitting .381/.458/.714.

On the other hand, Manny Ramirez is hitting .176/.288/.275 in his last 13 games -- and striking out in 27% of his plate appearances.

Alex Cora and Sean Casey are expected to rejoin the Sox for tonight's game. Jed Lowrie and Craig Hansen are the most likely candidates to be sent down. ... Julio Lugo, who experienced dizziness and headaches after being hit in the head by Matt Tolbert's knee on Friday, was diagnosed with a mild concussion.

Of Boston's four home runs last night, Lowrie's ball was the only one not thrown back onto the field. The fan who caught it traded it for a ball signed by Josh Beckett. Lowrie: "Apparently his signed ball is worth more than my first home run."
