Royals - 001 010 001 - 3 7 0In his first major league start of the season, Colon did quite well (5-6-2-2-4, 74).
Red Sox - 100 040 10x - 6 12 0
All 15 outs he recorded were in the infield -- eight grounders, four strikeouts and three popups. He allowed six singles, two of them to Joey Gathright, who scored the Royals' first two runs.
The pen also shone: Craig Hansen pitched a perfect sixth; Javier Lopez worked around a leadoff walk in the seventh; Manny Delcarmen had a 1-2-3 eighth; and Mike Timlin got two quick outs before allowing a walk and an RBI single in the ninth.
Jacoby Ellsbury was on base four times, with a home run to start the first, two singles and a walk; he also stole his 19th base. Dustin Pedroia had three singles, Jason Varitek homered, singled and walked (and is 8-for-15 during this homestand), and Julio Lugo singled twice.

Brett Tomko (5.32, 80 ERA+) / Bartolo Colon (2008 debut)
We are out tonight, so ThreadSox is the place to be.
My plan: tape the game, avoid all media, and watch when I get home as though it's a west coast game.
I-95 Watch: Chris Smith was returned to Pawtucket yesterday to make room for Justin Masterson, who was sent to Pawtucket (which was actually a promotion from Portland) after his start so Bartolo Colon could be brought up.
Also: Rays/A's at 3:30 and Orioles/LPY* at 7.

My plan - is to watch the game from section 6 row 10!!!
Have fun threading at threadsox!!!
* LPY: Last Place Yankees
Funny you mention the I-95 watch as we were driving back to boston thru Prov. after a gig last weekend and my friend pointed to the sounthbound traffic and said "I just saw Craig Hanson".
I thought that was funny anyway.
Also heard an interview with Dave Trembly-Schatner on Mike & the Maddog. Came across as a really nice, appreciative guy. Finally living his dream to manange a Major League team and tahnking his lucky stars everyday, or thanking Perlozzo for the MDM.
Isn't "LPY" redundant at this point?
Enjoy the game, s1c! Now I extra hope they win!!
section 6, row 10, ouch! It stinks when you have to crane your neck AND possibly see through a pole...
Meanwhile, the Rays are getting served!

Nope, just missed the pole :)
Someone in the SoSH thread mentioned that when Lowell struck out in the 7th, Papi had been attempting a hit&run/steal. Can anyone confirm?
Speaking of LPY, the Baseball Tonight boobs, rather than having the guts to admit they missed the boat in their pre-season calls, explained last night why the Yankees and the Tigers were still in the race. They did this by simply rehashing both teams' strengths as they were assessed before the season, and ignoring the problems that have become obvious since. Like: the Yankees starting rotation, like the fact the young pitchers have flopped, like the fact that Posada is falling apart, like the fact that the team is a year older, and doesn't have Torre to keep the front office off his team's back. The real argument seems to be that the Yankees have come back before. I guess until they finally don't, we'll have to put up with this crap.
(The brief for the Tigers was, if anything, even lamer: it was 100% based on the return of two injured relievers, Rodney and Zumaya, who haven't been good or healthy for two years. No mention of the fact that the starting pitching now sucks, the offense isn't nearly as good as advertised, and the infield defense is poor. Is there any profession where dumber people are paid so much to be "experts"? I can't think of one.)
Flo did run on the 0-2 pitch to Lowell, but Lowell did not swing (in fact all three pitches to him were called strikes). The catcher threw down and Papi was called safe, but Lowell's K was the 3rd out.
I wouldn't think they'd hit and run on 0-2. Plus Lowell did not offer at what was a strike, somewhat inside, if I recall.

Politics.
