They said that this would be my last for-sure start . It doesn't mean it couldn't be my last one.Terry Francona:
We'll probably make some decisions in the next couple days on which way to go with some of the pitching. Masterson could be one of them too.Or could not, I suppose. If the recent reports on Brad Penny are accurate, it sounds like he'll be ready when the team needs a fifth starter in mid-April. If not, then Masterson might fill in for a start or two.
Francona, on Junichi Tazawa (12 IP, 5 hits):
I know it's spring training, but it's still fun to watch. He's 1.1 to the plate. You can't run on him. He throws strikes, you can't run, he gave up two hits, how do you score?Josh Bard signed a minor league deal with the Nationals. No word whether he accepted the deal at 4 AM.
1 PM: Josh Beckett faces the Phillies.

Good lord it feels great to have this much pitching.
Word is that the other Bard, who some scouts say has the best fastball in baseball, is likely to end up somewhere else in a deal for a catcher. I'd like to see him in a Red Sox uniform, though.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
David Ortiz, DH
Mike Lowell, 3B
Jason Bay, LF
Rocco Baldelli, RF
Jason Varitek, C
Jed Lowrie, SS
Paul McAnulty, 1B
Beckett 1st: Two grounders to SS and a pop to SS in shallow left, narrowly avoiding a collision with Bay.
75 pitches or so for Beckett today.
I'd like to see him in a Red Sox uniform, though.
Me too!
Kilgore has the latest cuts:
Junichi Tazawa (optioned to Portland)
Michael Bowden (optioned to Pawtucket)
Billy Traber & Marcus McBeth (reassigned to minor complex)
Sox 1st:
Ellsbury (11 pitch AB) grounder to first.
Pedroia popped to shallow left.
Ortiz walked.
Lowell -- LF DONG! 2-0
Bay doubled to left-center
Baldelli walked
Varitek popped to third
Marcus McBeth
Girls team. McGirls team?
PHI - 000
SOX - 200
Beckett gets out of bases loaded, no out jam. 3-0 after 3.5
Did you hear the latest A-Rod/hooker stuff?
I mean 2-0.
Did you hear the latest A-Rod/hooker stuff?
Yeah. If the tabs were amusing, I might have posted it. But there's some NCAA thing going on, I guess, so that's getting the ink.
I love it when Beckett and Lowell are doing good. It reminds me of '07.
What's nice about having Lowell hit one out is he doesn't have to jog very fast around the bases.
Carter with a solo shot in the 8th, 3-0. I knew it would eventually be 3-0!
Sox win, 3-0. Like to see that 0.
And I knew you'd know that, so I didn't mention it.
PHI - 000 000 000 - 0 6 0
BOS - 200 000 01X - 3 9 1

Is that true, trading him for a catcher, he is a legit top 5 prospect, why would they ever trade him for a catcher , unless it is Mauer....
