Old-timey baseball writers invariably mentioned "Jupiter Pluvius" when there was rain. The phrase has fallen out of fashion, though
this guy might bring it back. Today, the Red Sox are in Jupiter, Florida, hoping to play the Marlins -- and it is raining.

Kevin Youkilis took batting practice wearing sneakers, sans plastic boot on his left foot, while J.D. Drew did not participate with the Red Sox during their morning workout. Youkilis is hopeful he'll play in a game Monday, while Drew was unsure of how long it would take him to return from the contusion on his right hand ...
Drew did not think the pain and weakness in his hand would keep him out too long. He seemed to think it would be a matter of days, and that missing Opening Day is in no way a possibility because of this injury. ...
Youkilis was examined this morning by Dr. Peter Asnis, and the diagnosis was positive enough that he could remove the boot he's worn for three days. Youkilis said he had "good strength in the tendons. It'll be fine."

0-0 after 1. Thanks for the JuPlu tip!
0-0 after 2. This might be a quick game.
Anibal with a no-hitter through 4.
Bowden goes 3, 1 ER.
McBeth ENTERS
Nick Green breaks it up with a 2-out single in the 5th.
Maybe I should have said "MCBETH enters."
Very weird play by Hanley with the bases loaded and 2 out--could have touched second for final out of inning. Right near the bag, he decides to throw to first, pulls the 1Bman off the bag, and the run scores. Inning continues. 1-1.
Bay with an easy outfield assist as a dude tries for 2 when he shouldn't have. Tazawa has replaced Mcbeth as King of Mound-land.
Brad "Josh" Wilker-son with a single. Still 1-1 in the 6th.
Carter with a Gedman-eqsue swing, golfs a double deep down the right field line, and George W. Ka-terrorist knocks in a run with a groundout. Now Green with a solid RBI single. 3-1.
Holy crap what a catch by Kalish. Diving play on a ball deep down the LF line, running toward the side wall.
3-3, bot 7.
It's a quagmire. Giggity-giggity.
Bottom 8, we're up 4-3, 2nd and 3rd for them, no outs, and almost no fans left in a downpour.
And the ump finally makes the call--this one should be over. Marlins would be pissed if this game counted. And the stadium plays, of all things, 867-5309. And it's official. Red Sox win!
A true soliloquy of a game-thread for me.
WBC:
Tonight 9 PM: Korea vs Venezuela
Ven will go with Carlos Silva, not Felix Hernandez; Luis Sojo actually said: "Manager's decision"
Korea goes with Suk-Min Yoon (9.2 IP, 0 R)
Sunday 8 PM: United States (Oswalt) vs Japan (Matsuzaka)
Monday 9 PM: Winners/Final
I didn't have to scroll to the bottom to know Jere wrote that.
Holy crap. So much for Sojo's "Manager's Decision" as South Korea scores 5 runs in the top of the 1st!
And we're stuck with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan.
Oh dear. Steve Phillips has joined in with a sort of unsavory three-way in the booth.
Korea kicking Vnezulan ass.
3, no, now 4 errors by Ven. already.
Sox apparently looked OK today. Sanchez probably wishes he could have faced Lowell.
Tarheels definitely looked OK, on their way to Memphis!

Biggest news story in the Baskin household - 1st LL practice today :)
Consecutive bad calls by the 1st base umpire cancel each other out, except that the runner should be at second, not 1st after a hit then an out instead of an out then a hit.
