Ortiz, Bay, Lowell Expected vs Yankees

David Ortiz and Jason Bay should be in the lineup tonight when the Red Sox play the Yankees (7 PM). Mike Lowell is expected to play several innings at third base.

In four games this spring, Josh Beckett has allowed five hits and no runs in 11 innings. On Thursday, he turned in this line against the Cardinals: 4-2-0-1-2, 50. He threw first-pitch strikes to 13 of his 15 batters.

John Farrell says Beckett is:
throwing the ball with power, with command. The nagging injuries that plagued him a year ago have not been evident at any one point and time. I think we're seeing him not only build arm strength but build endurance.
With two scoreless innings in relief, Justin Masterson has also not been scored upon this spring, in nine innings. ... Ortiz and Bay talk about their WBC experiences. ... Gumball Bailey, last year's International League MVP, currently hitting .524, tied for the team lead in spring hits and fighting for the final roster spot, talks with the Globe's Adam Kilgore.

Jonathan Papelbon stands by the comments he made to Esquire last December. Over in the Dodgers' camp, Manny said: "I moved on. I don't know why they don't."

Love Pap on the mound, hate him otherwise.

They? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Pap is the ONLY Red Sox player this spring to say anything negative about Manny.

That shocks me, because you come off as being quite a vocal and emotional person as well ....

As soon as Papelbon got famous enough to produce headline-inducing interviews, I thought, "Uh oh".

You have to remember that I'm pretty emotional during GAME THREADS. Comparing a human being to something as sensitive as Cancer, is just fucking plain moronic and insensitive. It's not the first time he's opened his mouth, and quite frankly I'm sick of his "Look at me, I'm so crazy, right? RIGHT?!?!!?" act. People who say they're crazy, aren't. He should take a page out of Beckett/Pedroia/Youk''s book and shut the fuck up and play the game. Schilling annoyed me, but at least he has somewhat of a brain.
But hey, what do I know? I'm "vocal and emotional".

I'm assuming he means "Boston" in general (players, media, fans, other assorted idiots).

I'd be taking mod off for the game, but I'm leaving soon to pick up L at the airport.

She's been in California since Monday seeing friends and family, relaxing and eating great food and drinking jugs of wine.

Me, I'm typing this in my basement -- all alone. :<(

I am sure you have heard someone use that phrase before....Listen, i agree with you that Pap can be moronic, but I am also fine with his honesty as long as he actulally said something to Manny while he was here, if not they he is just being a hyprocite......I also believe this is some of the reason why he doesn't have a long term deal yet, If you haven't noticed they are trying to create an image with this team as well as win....

9Casey, it's cool. No worries. Sure, I've heard people use that term and I always cringe. But he went even further and said "It's LIKE cancer" before he threw the cliche in.
