COME ON TITO, what kind of shit is that?

Put youk at first and put reddick back in there. He has no business being in the outfield, and kotchman has no business wearing the boston uniform.

I'm sorry, I'm just bitter as fuck about his AB on thursday. After Joba had walked the bases loaded Ortiz flew out and Lowell singled in a run, with one out and JtC CLEARLY not throwing anything near the strike zone, this tool goes up there swinging away at everything. Strikes out swinging at some VERY poor pitches. Then Green also struck out and we went from 2 on, 0 out, to bases loaded, 1 out, to leaving them loaded and only scoring one.

Enough about dwelling on the past though. Let's just say first impressions are meaningful to me. Although I'd love for him to prove me wrong.

Wasn't the first impression the Home Run he hit off Joba?

alsodanlowe said...

There's no reason this lineup shouldn't have eventuated last night, minus the Youks in left thing. That Mike Lowell didn't see a single pinch-hit at-bat was ludicrous.

Lowell-for-Varitek, Martinez-to-C, Kotchman-to-1B, etc. Obviously, who could have known it would last that long, but Boston ran itself out of offensive options pretty early in this one, and straight into the 0/31 part of the box score.

tim said...

Yeah the home run was sweet, but that at bat made more of an impression to me (clearly).

laura k said...

"I'm sorry, I'm just bitter as fuck about his AB on thursday."

I think it's amazing that you can even remember one particular AB with all the baseball we've been seeing lately.

laura k said...

Could we at least split this series? Is that really too much to ask????

IS THAT REALLY TOO MUCH TO ASK????

IS IT????

*sigh*

tim said...

I would respond to that L and almost did, but as I said - no more dwelling on the past. Split would be amazing.

Clay better be the HH of old. Not 2008/09 HH. We need quality innings.

laura k said...

You could respond. I am amazed at your recall. Although I know when something really irritates me, my recall improves! :)

Because we would be dwelling a lot of other guys with a lot more chances not named Casey

I know how some will say 1 game doesn't make a season, but this game ,I believe , could either solidify or completely derail the career of Clay Buchholz as a Red Sock.

laura k said...

It's very likely.

laura k said...

Not sure if I wandered into an argument here, but I was really only commenting on Tim's memory. I have no strong feelings about Casey Kotchman either way.

tim said...

To be blunt, I thought it was a key point in the game. They scored 8 over a "39 minute wait" and Joba came back out and couldn't throw strikes, had no control, we were putting a lot of pressure on him and it felt like we could get 3-4 runs at least and get back into it. Everyone was being patient, fouling off strikes (well, the pitches that were strikes - few and far between as they were) and taking balls. Other than the Ortiz fly-out, it felt like we were getting on a roll and taking advantage of his shitty pitching. Then all of a sudden Casey K comes up and whiffs at really shitty pitches and Ks. 2 out, and Joba comes back to get Green to K as well.

Maybe he would've GIDP, maybe he would've hit a grand slam by swinging. I don't know, I just felt it was a poor approach to take in that situation, and dare I say it, "be a rally killer"

And I'm not letting anyone else off the hook, 9c. I think part of our hitting woes are facing great pitching, the other part is that collectively they aren't hitting well. I don't remember any other specific examples because they all go into the G-file in my brain. It was an atrocious performance yesterday, all around.

I hear ya, and I think when new guys come to this team , there is a learning curve into how they approach pitchers..Casey Kotchman is what he is, why I questioned why we needed him in the first place....Last night the guys who stood out big time, from both teams, Pedroia and Jeter, neither could get a big hit In 2 big spots each.

tim said...

But I'm over it now, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do today.

Iridescence said...

Nick, That at-bat does stick out in my mind as being particularly horrible. JtC's control was awful and the Sox really had him on the ropes that inning. If any game situation ever called for taking a strike or even 2 that was it. I remember being like "Why the FUCK are you up there hacking?!" To Kotchman.

But these guys aren't perfect robots and he is a pretty good player on the whole so I'm not going to hate him over that one wasted at-bat.

Come-on Clay. The future is now. Show your stuff today! Maybe Sox can still split this thing...

How can you remember that , but not Tim's name...:)

9casey said...

unless tim really is Nick????????

Game time...later peeps, will check in later.....

allan said...

Let's see:

1. Sox have lost 2 of 2 to NYY this series
2. Sox are 4.5 GB, worst GB of the year
3. Steroid/PED shit swirling around Papi
4. Joe Buck
5. Tim McCarver

To mute or not to mute?

Hmmm.........

Iridescence said...

sorry I meant Tim there :)

Iridescence said...

I actually am tempted to just listen to the radio broadcast today. I honestly hate McCarver that much.

Iridescence said...

Or I could do Laura's trick of muting the stream if the delay and lag isn't too bad.

laura k said...

win

laura k said...

How can you remember that , but not Tim's name...:)

LOL

tim said...

Need a stream, don't get fox on my slingbox...

laura k said...

Mute or not to mute? You even have to ask?

I'm at work, so just radio, which is fine with me.

But I have work, so I have to keep my threading light. Last weekend I ended up pasting a quote from a thread into a legal document.

allan said...

Pound CCC.

allan said...

shit - was lyndon sprinting on that?

allan said...

i am actually using sound -- daring! -- but will mute if necessary,.

mcmoron says that when former battery mates face each other, the C has the advantage. i wonder if any study has been done on that. but he did once say that leadoff walks ALWAYS score and that is true, so i'm sure he's right.

allan said...

HAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHHA

FUCK YOU SLAPPY

tim said...

YES

laura k said...

Sounds like Alex won't win an Oscar for that one. Couldn't decide where he got "hit"?

laura k said...

mcmoron says that when former battery mates face each other, the C has the advantage.

slight bias there

9casey said...

That was so on purpose...........V-mart didn't even put down a sign..

9casey said...

Love it!!!!!!!

allan said...

he told ump it hit his left shoulder. no way. maybe it hit a thread on his shirt near his right shoulder, but the replay did not show it.

mcmoron watches replay and says "hmmmmmmmmmmmm (must not criticize nyy) ... hard to tell."

tim said...

best strike ever

9casey said...

McGarver was asking , why is A-Rod begging for the call, he should want to hit......

buck on tiz/PED: "there has been SO MUCH written about it (sounds a bit disgusted), you really can't get away from it ... strike called to ortiz ... we've got a lot to say about it today, of course"

DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF, YOU BORED POMPOUS ASSHOLE?

MUTE IS ON!

allan said...

looks like a gorgeous day - shot from blimp that might be above the manhattan bridge looking at downtown.

A Conformer said...

Afternoon, all. Joining in. TV today, woo! A game that isn't on a 9 inch screen is a good thing.

Iridescence said...

At least we have a real home plate umpire for this game. not like that clown last night.

laura k said...

Do you think the Red Sox will ever score a run again?

tim said...

dammit CK.

allan said...

i'm not even sure when they'll get a hit.

...

cuz CCC has a perfect game going!

allan said...

2 runs in the last 22 innings

A Conformer said...

OK, seriously, 18 innings is enough. Next time get a fucking measly run.

Iridescence said...

"2 runs in the last 22 innings"

MFY only have 2 in the last 17. Another pitchers duel would be cool if Sox can win it today.

[Fuck Green, I hate you!]

A Conformer said...

Come on, you can't really blame Green on that...

laura k said...

Personally I'm ready for a blowout in the right direction.

I definitely prefer pitching duels, but right now I want the red sox to

SCORE RUNS!!!!

Iridescence said...

well it wasn't a good throw. Part of it is my pent up frustration with him though.

laura k said...

Anybody listening to the radio? They're talking about a game where Willy Mays hit a walk-off HR to break a scoreless game in the (I think?) 16th - Juan Marichal vs Warren Spahn. Wish I could see that.

allan said...

actually 2 in 18 for the mfy. they did not score in the 8th on thursday.

tim said...

25 runs for us would be great right about now. Couple bat arounds plz.

laura k said...

walking a Molina is a bad sign

i STILL havent' seen this DP you speak of.

A Conformer said...

tim said...

Ofer, our fuckin' troubles will be over...

A Conformer said...

You're killing your father, Tim.

Did you recognize him on the stream?

allan said...

red sox have 6 hits -- all singles -- in their last 23 innings...

tim said...

No, goodman is there?

A Conformer said...

Nah, The Dude. Drinking a beer in the luxury seats with his special lady.

Iridescence said...

I'm wondering about what Amy was asking the other day how much of this is really good pitching and how much is it our guys in a slump?

laura k said...

I think their pitching is better than we want to admit - but also our batters are in a horrendous slump.

Wait, can it be both?

allan said...

o'neil plays it on a hop

tim said...

Right, silly me. It's shabbos, which means he doesn't use the phone, doesn't use the stove and sure as hell DOESN'T FUCKING WATCH BASEBALL! SHOMER SHABBOS!

tim said...

buh bye stream

allan said...

time for another ass-saving DP.

A Conformer said...

The myth of Wake's complete uncatchability's gotta go.

A Conformer said...

Youk in LF... he's a superregular.

Amy said...

Hi, everyone. So we are only a run behind---can we now score a gazillion runs please?

Iridescence said...

nice reverse squander

A Conformer said...

HH's looking a lot better than against the Os, even if you completely ignore his horrible fourth. But he has too many overthrown fastballs that are way outside.

Amy said...

Tim, who are you talking about being shomer shabbos??

Amy said...

Oops, they just said perfect game. Hope that jinxes it.

A Conformer said...

RSVFP

Iridescence said...

come on Sox offense let's at least break up the perfect game this inning.

A Conformer said...

Hey, McC just made a lot of sense.

laura k said...

you know, this is quite enough already

laura k said...

Amy, Ofer & Tim are on a Big Lebowski roll. The shomer shabbos ref is from that movie.

A Conformer said...

Tim, who are you talking about being shomer shabbos??

Walter, obviously (-: He's not wrong, he's just an asshole.

laura k said...

AFT

A Conformer said...

Yeah, I think Papi just got the base on strikes.

Iridescence said...

oh yeah, base runners, I remember those. They're nice!

Amy said...

Ah, the Big Lebowski. A movie I should have seen.

And Papi, at least you broke up the perfect game.

allan said...

CC pitches to last 4 batters:

VMart - 9
Yook - 6
Flo - 8
Dr - at least 5

Bryon Harris said...

Hey all.

allan said...

29 pitches to last 4 hitters

wear him down boys

A Conformer said...

What's AFT, L?

Iridescence said...

actually GD shows ball 4 to Papi was a strike so let's get a clean hit to break this up for real.

Amy said...

A baserunner is nice, but a RUN would be nicer.

laura k said...

aft = about fucking time (something I say all the time, but not in the thread!)

when we got the walk

nick said...

I certainly leave an impression, eh? better than that at bat, I hope.

Just popping in for a second. I had to do a surprise policy orientation fill-in at the radio and am now late for work.

I demand dirty water satisfaction! Have fun all.

laura k said...

Ah, the Big Lebowski. A movie I should have seen.

Not necessarily. I could barely sit through it. It seems to go with a whole set of cultural references I don't appreciate. I have a feeling you wouldn't either.

A Conformer said...

OK, fuck baserunners, fuck hits. Runs, runs and runs. That's what we need.

nick said...

oh, and what's the deal with this no-hitter bullshit. fuck that. By the ghost of J.G. Ballard's pervy British mind, I demand blood in the toilet!

Iridescence said...

A Conformer,

Well of course but gotta start somewhere.

A Conformer said...

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be logical. Just venting.

A Conformer said...

Hey, Fox, show The Steal!

allan said...

with the injuries and the slumps (of just about every player), i am having my first doubts about this club.

Amy said...

Why is Youk playing left field??

A Conformer said...

Youk should not be out there. It wasn't an easy play, but still, he's no outfielder.

allan said...

yook ain't no drew out there

tim said...

see comment 1.

Iridescence said...

"Why is Youk playing left field??"

Tito wants to get Kotchman's bat in the lineup apparently. Don't ask me why

Iridescence said...

is Reddick a left handed batter?
anyone know?

Amy said...

On Big Lebowski, you are undoubtedly right, Laura. I am not a Coen brothers fan. I think I am the only person who hated Fargo. HATED it.

allan said...

joba has got to be the dooshiest mfy, but when i see teix's pursed lemon face when he's in the batter's box, and i have second thoughts.

Amy said...

My question about Youk was not substantive; it was a reaction to that play. I had read the comments, Tim. :)

A Conformer said...

is Reddick a left handed batter?

Yep.

allan said...

hh dp pls

Iridescence said...

JtC's douchieness is pretty untouchable i think.

tim said...

I wasn't answering any questions, just re-expressing comment #1.

Amy said...

Uh oh, if you are having doubts, Allan, it makes me realize mine are not unjustified.

Iridescence said...

OK well at least it makes some sense to sit him against CC then.

Amy said...

Ah, I thought you were answering my rhetorical question!

laura k said...

On Big Lebowski, you are undoubtedly right, Laura. I am not a Coen brothers fan. I think I am the only person who hated Fargo. HATED it.

I am also not a Coen brothers fan at all, but I really liked Fargo a lot.

I can see not liking it tho.

A Conformer said...

Kotchman also bats lefty...

allan said...

figured i'd be honest!

allan said...

good job.

Iridescence said...

A Conformer, OK I'm confused again then.

A Conformer said...

It will be a shame to waste an OK performance by HH. Wake up, offense.

BTW, I would send him out for the sixth, but have somebody warming up behind him.

Iridescence said...

Way to get out of the jam, Clay! Now please get runs for him!

allan said...

clay at 90
ccc at 81

can we have an overflow of runs that'll clog the toilet? enough of this shit -- that's the kind of flood i wanna see.

allan said...

CAN'T THE FUCKING BABIP GODS GIVE US A FUCKING HIT??????

Amy said...

HIT!!!!

Amy said...

They must have heard you, Allan...

allan said...

i think my tv is busted. looks like a sox player got a hit.

A Conformer said...

Well, that's new.

Iridescence said...

Jacoby!

allan said...

CAN'T THE FUCKING BABIP GODS GIVE US ANOTHER FUCKING HIT AND MAYBE A GODDAMN RUN??????

Amy said...

I think LBJ is our only hitter not in a slump.

tim said...

Steal pls. Then runs.

allan said...

go sit down fy.

Amy said...

OK, we have broken up the perfect game and the no hitter. Does us NO good without scoring some runs.

A Conformer said...

Didn't look like a foul tip, but who the fuck knows? FY, do not get tossed.

allan said...

GDGD saying on-field delay.

tim said...

ughhhhhhhhhhhh

allan said...

maybe tito can get tossed and overturn the post-game spread and get us "fired up"

A Conformer said...

5th inning- break up the perfecto.
6th inning- break up the no-no.
7th inning- break up the shutout.
8th inning- break CC's ribs with a comebacker.

A guy can dream, no?

allan said...

dont tell me tek has mart doing the stand up with 2 strikes thing.

Iridescence said...

"8th inning- break CC's ribs with a comebacker."

This is pretty lame to wish for but the other stuff would be nice. [If it was JtC OK but CC is OK. I'd love him if he wore our uniform)

A Conformer said...

Oh, fuck, that was Martinez. I was thinking "fuck, Tek, stand up high fastball never works". Tek's intangibles are spreading.

allan said...

shut 'em down, like the 4th.

allan said...

okay - going for the mo-leaner dp. i'll accept that.

Iridescence said...

damn, 2 run deficit. Feels like 10 the way the Sox are hitting :(

Iridescence said...

pretty good start for Buchholz (if this is his last inning).

A Conformer said...

Encouraging start for HH. Now, runs.

Amy said...

Is it our turn to score runs?

allan said...

time to whack a dong

Amy said...

I knew we were wasting all those runs in Baltimore....

laura k said...

runs

YOUK! do.not.squander

A Conformer said...

Unknown said...

Fuck you ump

A Conformer said...

Fucking ump. Not even checking with the 3rd base ump? Bullshit call.

Amy said...

Fox announcers also thought the call was wrong.

Shit, how did he still get Lowell out? Was Lowell crawling?

Unknown said...

Lowell, how fucking slow are you!?!?!

even buck and mcshithead agrees the ump blew it.

fuck it all.

laura k said...

probably running at top speed. that is, yes, he was crawling.

allan said...

now yook flexing his right knee in LF. must have banged in on that slide.

SoSock said...

Nice outage by Clay. Good for him.
Now - SCORE SOME FUCKING RUNS!!!!!

Amy said...

Kevin, why not? HH pitched well. Our hitters are just struggling against one of the best pitchers in the game.

It's not like they have been playing sloppy defense (except poor Youk, who shouldn't be out there).
