G122: Red Sox 14, Yankees 1

Yankees - 000 000 100 - 1 12 0
Red Sox - 340 023 02x - 14 15 0
Tazawa was brilliant (6-8-0-2-2, 99), pitching out of several jams. He stranded four Yankees at third base and another two at second.

Comparing Tazawa's outing and Brad Penny's Friday night BP session -- and knowing that Tim Wakefield will start on Wednesday against the White Sox -- it would seem that Penny might lose his spot in the rotation.

Kevin Youkilis knocked in a career-high six runs with two home runs and a double. Dustin Pedroia had two doubles, a single, walk, stolen base and four runs scored. David Ortiz doubled and homered and drove in three. Hell, Alex Gonzalez hit a solo dong in the second inning!

Thirteen of the Red Sox 14 runs came with two outs.

Burnett allowed nine runs for the first time in his career (5-9-9-2-6, 97).
Example
A.J. Burnett (3.69, 121 ERA+) / Junichi Tazawa (5.40, 88 ERA+)

I know....Harv forgot when he invited them (or maybe he knew the Yankees would be losing 7-0). Oh, well, I will be keeping one eye on the game while trying to be sociable.

Amy said...

And I get 201!

Patrick said...

Gotta leave too. Going to watch Distric 9 with my friend who really needs some company.

I leave this to you, JOSers.

Excellent

Taz = Houdini Jr

Benjamin said...

Who is post-polio?

Joba's father. That's why we have to suffer through mid-inning hagiographies of the fellow replete with fistpumps.

L-girl said...

Harv forgot when he invited them (or maybe he knew the Yankees would be losing 7-0)

Ask Harvey who is going to win the division.

Benjamin said...

Except it isn't Joba's father that's so awesome. It's Joba, whose father's sacrifices made his awesomeness possible. JOBA'S AWESOME AND IT'S TIME EVERYONE KNEW IT.

L-girl said...

Who is post-polio?

Joba's father.

Oh big deal. I thought it was a player. That would be something (although not unique). His father? Pffft.

Amy said...

Harv keeps telling me not to assume the Red Sox cannot win the division. I think he likes to be nice, or he is just torturing me with fake hope.

Amy said...

OK, gtg! GO SOX!

Benjamin said...

HIS IS THE WHEELCHAIR OF POWER YOU MUST ALL BOW TO HIS MOBILITY ENHANCING MECHANICAL CONVEYANCE

redsock said...

Rolly Polio

L-girl said...

Harv is correct. You should not assume. Hope is not fake. The results may not work out, but the hope is real.

L-girl said...

HIS IS THE WHEELCHAIR OF POWER YOU MUST ALL BOW TO HIS MOBILITY ENHANCING MECHANICAL CONVEYANCE

Pfft.

L-girl said...

Joni Mitchell is post-polio.

Just thought I'd mention that.

redsock said...

Taz at 85.
Will Tito try to buy a few outs -- and maybe pull Taz if a guy gets on or at a round # of pitches?

Benjamin said...

Why are you talking about dog-abusing USian football players. This is baseball. We do not want to discuss such matters.

Benjamin said...

I hope that the MFYs go down in a plane crash en route to Anaheim. This is my hope.

redsock said...

What if Manny ran a dog-fighting operation and tortured and murdered tons of dogs?

Or *Bonds*?

L-girl said...

Allan, you would love the radio right now. Completely fixated on college sports - what cities are best, where you want to see college games, blah blah blah

redsock said...

Is that your hopes and dreams?

Benjamin said...

Well then dog fighting would be topically relevant to BASEBALL.

redsock said...

QUADRANGULAR!!!!!!!!!!!

L-girl said...

PAPI DONG!!!!!!

Kevin said...

FLO!!

Benjamin said...

SUCK ON THAT I'M USING CAPS BECAUSE ORTIZ JUST DONGED

Benjamin said...

And not for any other reason.

redsock said...

A Conformer said...

Come on, gotta get Burnett out of the fucking game to tax their bullpen for tomorrow...

L-girl said...

What if Manny ran a dog-fighting operation and tortured and murdered tons of dogs?

Or *Bonds*?

OMG, can you imagine.

It would only confirm many people's opinions of them. You can be sure they wouldn't be working this soon after their friggin conviction.

"It's very difficult to figure out this game."

Perhaps you can shut up about it, then. Just show the action. We can compose our own thoughts.

Lord Lynch said...

Good evening. And how much better an evening it is to be greeted by this score!

redsock said...

Just got an email:

My wife and I are watching the game right now. After the close up of Burnett after he gave up Ortiz homer, she pipes up and says "he looks beavis from beavis and butthead". Hahaha!! You must call Burnett "beavis" on the blog Lol!!
(Sent from my BlackBerry device on the Rogers Wireless Network)

Jeff Polman said...

I can't BELIEVE I'm missing this nirvana!! I HATE Fox more than I hate Teixiera. Guess I'll have to watch each Sox dong five times apiece on MLB.com later...

A Conformer said...

AJ's expressions this inning have been priceless.

I say give the kid a coupla more outs.

redsock said...

bard up

A Conformer said...

I wouldn't mind winning 17-1. For old times' sake.

redsock said...

farrell out
bard is ready

i guess they can "spare" a run to see if taz can get out of it.

redsock said...

i mean i guess that is the thinking

Kevin said...

Alright, DP time

L-girl said...

I love that email!

I thought we already called someone Beavis - at least you do, A.

MFY LOB!

Kevin said...

Great outing for Tazawa

No question anymore: he stays in the rotation and Penny goes when Wake comes back

A Conformer said...

4 runners on 3rd in 6 innings, and no runs. Tazawa has definitely affected the MFY's LOB numbers today.

Kevin said...

Alfredo Assface in

redsock said...

Burnett: 5-9-9-2-6, 97

...

we need a good side by side comparison of Aj and beavis

L-girl said...

No question anymore: he stays in the rotation and Penny goes when Wake comes back

I can't wait.

A Conformer said...

No question anymore: he stays in the rotation and Penny goes when Wake comes back

I'd guess there'll be another use of the phantom DL, in case Wake is reinjured. I don't think they'll get anything for him on the waiver wire...

redsock said...

LBJ wants to set the SB mark on the ESPN marquee game. None of this Fox shit for him!

A Conformer said...

FY with a SASAHE double.

L-girl said...

Wheee!!! 10-0!!! Keep em coming!

shakespeare, don't fuck it up

redsock said...

GAS!

Kevin said...

redsock said...

i think you'll win more games scoring 11-12 runs a game than getting 20 and then 0.

L-girl said...

i think you'll win more games scoring 11-12 runs a game than getting 20 and then 0.

Sure. If we always scored 11-12 runs a game, that would be great.

Remember when we were all here chanting and reciting for runs?

redsock said...

maybe rice was right. maybe jeter did ask out of this game.

L-girl said...

No shut out today. Oh well.

redsock said...

fuck, i wanted a shutout.

Kevin said...

Gah, no shutout today

A Conformer said...

BTW, anybody else think Smoltz will pitch great for St. Louis? It's like the Sox are the Cards' own reclamation project pool.

redsock said...

girardi waving the white flag.

Kevin said...

Come on Bard, cut the crap

A Conformer said...

Bard has been giving up dongs all over the place.

Kevin said...

I wonder how good Bard could be if he replaced his changeup with a splitter

L-girl said...

Shakespeare can get all his dongs out now, then be brilliant in October.

L-girl said...

Also why it's best for Beckett to get all of his crap out in Toronto before tomorrow night's game

A Conformer said...

Also why it's best for Beckett to get all of his crap out in Toronto before tomorrow night's game

No worries, it's gonna be the mythological Captain Jason tomorrow behind the plate.

Kevin said...

Girardi takes a page out of Tito's book and puts the backup catcher at third

I never understood why Tito did that with Cash last season

A Conformer said...

No worries, it's gonna be the mythological Captain Jason tomorrow behind the plate.

...Which I guess would make the rest of the team the Argonauts...

L-girl said...

Also why it's best for Beckett to get all of his crap out in Toronto before tomorrow night's game

Maybe so, but since that was 1 of only 3 times I saw the Sox this season, I wasn't so sure.

L-girl said...

Obie hyping tomorrow's pitching matchup like crazy. I think I'd rather see another slugfest.

Kevin said...

I'd like to see another one-sided slugfest

L-girl said...

Oh yes, I forgot that crucial word: one-sided.

redsock said...

ftr, i was going to say "as long as the slugfest is one-sided".

L-girl said...

Kevin - profile not available - hmmm - Allan's alter ego?

Kevin said...

Green in LF again...ugh

Kevin said...

"Kevin - profile not available - hmmm - Allan's alter ego?"

I've never bothered creating one for blogger, this is really the only site I where use blogger.

More! More! More!

redsock said...

mccarver says kotchman sacrified a lot in coming to boston.

umm, wasn't he traded?

L-girl said...

Thanks! 13-1

L-girl said...

And what did he sacrifice?

redsock said...

playing time
going from full-time to bench player
but unless he had some no-trade list he waived, he had no choice whatsoever

L-girl said...

A lot of people would rather be on the bench on a contending team than play f-t for losers.

L-girl said...

14-1!

redsock said...

YOOOOOOOOOOOOK

A Conformer said...

Come on, just 3 more for the 17-1.

L-girl said...

Ho hum, we'll have to settle for 14-1.

redsock said...

L-girl said...

Thirteen of the Red Sox 14 runs came with two outs.

Love it.

Amy said...

I can't believe I wasn't here to share the rest of this game. I did catch a few more innings while making drinks for the neighbors. At least I felt we were safely in the lead when I couldn't watch.

2 out of 3 would feel SO good.

I really hate I couldn't watch this. But then again, I didn't have to watch last night's debacle either, so I guess I'm even.
Took the grandkids to Trade St. for music. Melva Houston, jazz & blues singer, did the downtown block party tonight. Very good.
I left when it was 7-0, and had Bobby call me after it was over. When he gave me the final I mentioned that there once was a time when the Yankees had beaten us 3 games in a row, with the last one being an absolute humiliation. Seems the win that next night was the start of something kinda special.
Hey, not predicting, just saying, ya know?

redsock said...

TEX: 002 001 001 0 - 4 7 2
FKR: 010 200 010 1 - 5 9 0

This is good.
Our WC lead goes to 2.
FKR stay 3 behind us.
