The Red Sox announced yesterday that Chris Sale will undergo ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery on his left elbow.
Chaim Bloom:
Needless to say, this is a tough, tough thing for Chris and tough for all of us here with the Red Sox. ... While we are bummed for him, we know he's going to attack his rehab like he has everything else in his career. We have confidence that he's going to do well coming out of this.If all goes well, Sale could be back on the mound in July 2021.
Still, looking on the bright side, there really is no better time for Sale to have this surgery (if we discount last August, that is), since the fate of the 2020 season is extremely unclear.
