G11: Yankees 4, Red Sox 1

Yankees - 000 010 201 - 4 10 1
Red Sox - 000 010 000 - 1 2 0
Wang (9-2-1-0-3) was pretty much unhittable tonight. He threw only 92 pitches in a complete game performance, facing two batters over the minimum. Drew's solo home run was Boston's only run.

Buchholz (6-4-1-3-3) matched Wang out for out through the first four innings. He stumbled in the fifth and sixth, but still left the game after six innings with a 1-1 tie. Then Francona brought Timlin in -- straight from the disabled list. Guess what? White Flag gave up a home run to Giambi and a double to Molina, who later scored. And that was that.

***

Chien-Ming Wang (1.38, 290 ERA+) / Clay Buchholz (5.40, 79 ERA+)

Wang's 6 starts at Fenway: 35 IP, 45 H, 20 BB, 11 K, 6.17 ERA
               PA AVG OBP SLG OPS
Ortiz v Wang 36 .500 .583 .833 1.416
Manny v Wang 26 .591 .654 .864 1.518
Yook boasts a .533 OBP and a 1.009 OPS. On the other hand, Varitek is 1-for-16 (the one hit was a dong) and Drew is 1-for-11. (All Sox v Wang)

Mike Timlin rejoins the team today; Bryan Corey will be designated for assignment.

Weekend matchups:
Saturday, 4 PM: Beckett / Mussina
Sunday, 8 PM: Matsuzaka / Hughes
Mr. Hankee, March 15, 2008:
I really have nothing more to say about the Red Sox the entire season. We've covered that ground and, basically, I'm tired of talking about them.
He's a man of his word, right?

Well, here goes!

Jere and I will be at the game representing JOS. Look for me down the first baseline. I'll probably be bundled in my blue parka, looking wet and cold.

And I am hoping Tek gets a Wang dong again. And does better than 1 for 15.

GO SOX!

Jere and I will be at the game representing JOS.

Have fun!

I'm psyched that we could be getting a game full of Sac flys and wang.

I won't be available to comment tonight so others will have to keep up the wang jokes in my absence.

Godspeed.

I'm headed out. It's 56 now only going down to high 40s with 40 percent chance of rain. This isn't turning out too be too bad a night after all. (It was drizzling before, but it was accompanied by that humid, summer rain smell, instead of the wintery-style.) See you all for tomorrow's game...

Crap, I forgot to give Amy parking tips...

She's not new to Fenway.

Have fun, Amy & Jere! I hope they get to meet, that would be fun.

Allan got a shout out in Edes's mailbag today regarding the Buckner thing.

allan said...

"long-time correspondent"

I was going to email him the link about the 1986 parade when I posted it but didn't, then saw that he mentioned 1987 and 1990 in his notes the following morning. Then -- once the moment had passed! -- I emailed it.

"Allan got a shout out in Edes's mailbag today regarding the Buckner thing."

Hey, nice! Too bad there's no link. Although it's not like JoS needs the traffic.

andy said...

That gave me wood, Allan wood

allan said...

I also put this in the Sox Pox post:

***

Howard Rubenstein released a statement:
"We noticed that the NY Post wrote a fun and interesting story about a t-shirt today — but it never happened. Yankee fans know that burying something in concrete in the basement is never a good thing. Memo to the Post: You're 10 days late for April Fool’s Day."

Yankee fans know that burying something in concrete in the basement is never a good thing.

Whaaaa?

Zenslinger said...

Not only isn't there a link, but only Allan is named; the blog isn't mentioned.

But it's still nice.

allan said...

it's not like JoS needs the traffic

Yes it does.

I would have liked "Joy of Sox blogger". I imagine 95% of readers wondered who the hell is that?

allan said...

I meant CI is out for all 3 games.

Got this series confused with next week's 2-gamer.

allan said...

That gave me wood, Allan wood

Easy, big fella.

allan said...

Well, work is quite dead. I hope it stays that way.

Zenslinger said...

I just hope there's a game (in terms of weather).

s1c said...

I was surprised about Lowrie's r/l splits. Interesting that PECOTA has his splits being almost identical from left and right.

You have to wonder if he will play this weekend though.

tim said...

Who the hell are MFY sendin out there? Bunch of no names, they got the Former Attorney General at SS, the Buffet Baron catching and good ol HGH at first. The rest of the lineup looks....vulnerable. I dunno, couple years ago when I used to look at their lineup it was like 1 thru 9 all had the potential to do some damage, now, its just...meh. CI out probably has something to do with it, but game starts soon and the only words I've gotta say now are fuck 'em.

Actually, go sox has a nicer ring to it. Less negative.... GOOOO SOX!

(This'll probably be my only post tonight, gotta go out somewhere to watch the game or something)

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Al Reyes was shocked with a stun gun and arrested early Friday after police say he fell against a ceramic pot in a bar, got up and picked a fight with a man he thought pushed him.

allan said...

should i be worried mlbtv is not working?

allan said...

hellloooooooooo mlbtv?

you can start working now.

i have it up on two computers .. zippo.

but as i found out last time, all of their shit could be totally out of commission and they won't tell their customers a thing.

allan said...

okay i got radio on the other computer.

anyone else having mlbtv woes tonight?

allan said...

i'd call mlb but i can't really do that from work. since they never tell people if there is a problem, you never have any idea what is wrong, whether it's you or them.

god i hate them so much.

Jake of All Trades said...

MLB.tv working fine for me. First time all week it worked on the first try (knock wood)

allan said...

you know what i just realized?

i bought mlbtv

i did not buy audio -- but i am getting audio!

Zenslinger said...

You get audio with your MLB.tv subscription. Least that's what I thought.

allan said...

wonderful -- now my radio broke.

what did i give $80-90 to mlb for? i forget. ... i am on the phone though.

allan said...

if that's true, then L did not need to buy audio for herself at work.

laura k said...

Hi all. Had to watch w/out my puter for a while, but I'm modding now.

laura k said...

I did need to buy audio, in case they block more than one user from using an mlbtv account at the same time.

$15 for the whole season, it's worth it.

Nice catch, Ococ!

allan said...

i wish i could see or hear this game.

laura k said...

Re Edes, I know you want the traffic. We all do. I just mean all serious Sox fans are finding you anyway.

But yes, he definitely should have mentioned the blog! Long-time correspondent my ass.

laura k said...

*whistling* Anyone home?

allan said...

radio is back

Zenslinger said...

Hi, L.

Least Manny's makin' Wang throw some pitches.

allan said...

oh my fucking god

i just got thru to mlb -- but it was actually an answering service unconnected to MLB.

he said mlb tv experiencing a lot of calls tonight and he said he could take my name and phone number or email and someone would get back to me.

it sounded like a recording, so i asked: "are you fucking kidding me?"

no, he was not.

hwe knows nothing about what mlb might be going thru -- he's an outside service.

what a fucking mickey mouse fucking operation. shitheads, all of them.

allan said...

mlb is going to take my name and number and call me back -- about watching a game right now.

unbelievable.

unfuckingbelievable.

laura k said...

Kinda freaks me out to have Alberto Gonzalez in this game. You think the whole place is bugged? I hope no one gets disappeared.

Zenslinger said...

Yeah, I mean, how do you toss a guy for arguing balls and strikes who thinks torture is all right?

Zenslinger said...

Wouldn't you have to, like, kill him or something to get his attention?

laura k said...

seriously. i wonder if they'll sign john ashcroft this season too.

Zenslinger said...

Keeee-rist, Wang is just mowing us down. Striking some people out lately, too. So much for hoping for any lingering effects of his playoff performance last year.

laura k said...

So there is an actor worse than Terry Francona, and his name is Dustin Pedroia. That tire commercial has hit a new low.

allan said...

FY with the hit!

allan said...

now they change it to an error.

cbs has no idea who got the E though.

allan said...

now sox radio says it was always an error - scoreboard effed up.

allan said...

error e-rod.

Jake of All Trades said...

Never thought I'd be disappointed to see Arod get an error.

Rob said...

Uncle Joe has no problem mentioning perfect games and no hitters, just as long as the pitcher is the opposition.

Gave me a chuckle.

allan said...

outs pls.

allan said...

wang - 38 pitches thru 4 (8-11-10-9)!

laura k said...

Did Remy just say what I thought he said? "For the first time in a long, long time, the Yankees come in chasing the Red Sox."

Jerry, check your 2007 standings. The Yankees chased the Red Sox for the entire season.

And never caught us.

Maybe he didn't say that. Did I hear wrong?

allan said...

HGH K.

let's get molina on a dp.

allan said...

i don't doubt remy said that. he can be pretty dumb sometimes.

allan said...

finally, farrell out to chat.

shit, clay -- get the dud.

Jake of All Trades said...

Yup, that is what he said.

Isn't it weird to see Girardi in the dugout? I keep saying "Who's that...oh, yeah."

laura k said...

OUTS PLEASE

allan said...

lopez up

dud up with 3dicks on the pond.

laura k said...

It's just weird to not see Joe Torre in the dugout, or to see him in a different uniform.

allan said...

Has this rain put out the (on) fire?

laura k said...

laura k said...

The rain is no match for the Fire Starter!

allan said...

ON FIRE IN THE RAIN

DONG A ROONIE

laura k said...

I guess my jinx worked. ;)

allan said...

buchholz back on track, but allows a single to slappy with 2 gone. at 90 pitches.

timlin up

laura k said...

White Flag up in the pen.

allan said...

with two outs, should slappy have scored on that?

laura k said...

Houdini!

laura k said...

How could he have scored on it if there were two outs?

allan said...

thanx, dumbo.

that'll be it for clay, i suppose. 96 pitches.

andy said...

what's wrong with JD?

allan said...

he would not have had to wait to see if manny caught it, he could go "full bore" right away.

so will tito bring timlin right off the DL into a 1-1 game in the 7th?

laura k said...

i thought you meant on posada's ground out.

allan said...

toast is indeed in.

allan said...

jeemer in the pen

laura k said...

welcome back, neocon

allan said...

oh fuck you timlin -- get the fuck out of here-- go killa deer.

allan said...

hgh was 1-for-20 this year before that dong.

christ.

laura k said...

jere isn't in the thread to defend him tonight, so i will dislike timlin to with impunity.

allan said...

quick hook tito! nice.

can we call corey and get him back and put timlin out to pasture?

jeeme rin.

allan said...

well, there's someone i won't miss when he's gone.

laura k said...

i can't wait to miss him.

allan said...

"how can we miss you if you won't go away?"

laura k said...

essackly

allan said...

bottom 7th:
pedroia
ortiz

wang - 55 pitches in 6 innings.

laura k said...

Now would be an excellent time for Papi to break out of his slow start.

laura k said...

Damn Wang is good tonight.

allan said...

lopez in.

laura k said...

Aardvark warming. Coming in to eat the ants.

allan said...

This game has been no picnic.
No ants here.

laura k said...

It sounds very loud at Fenway tonight.

laura k said...

No ants, but plenty of pests.

allan said...

friggin lopez - bases loaded.

goddamn it all.

aaaaaaardsma in

laura k said...

loaded, but w/ 2 outs. the aardvark will get it done.

allan said...

this stupid game is dragging and dragging. i'm a yawning machine right now.

broke the record set last night by 12.

allan said...

only us commenting for the last 46 minutes.

laura k said...

Yeah! Here we go, time for some

RUNS PLEASE!!!

allan said...

76 minutes actually, from the blogger clock.

allan said...

let's go:
yook
onfire
tek
mayor

laura k said...

Friday nights are always slow on the gamethread. Lots of times last year it was just us chatting too.

allan said...

you mean people have ... better .... things ... to do? (sniff)

laura k said...

Hut sighting.

allan said...

stop dicking around with wang.

laura k said...

Apparently people do have other things to do. Not better (as if), but other.

allan said...

good - game-winning rally against jtc will be fun.

laura k said...

Damn, I thought that was falling in. So did Yook.

allan said...

wang at 78 pitches thru 8. girardi would be a fool to take him out.

but maybe he'll pull a "perlozzo" and we can rally in the 9th.

laura k said...

"in the back door comes gonzalez"

laura k said...

i'm pretty sure girardi will pull wang.

geez, i sound like you guys. i mean he will take him out.

take it out.

there's no avoiding these wang jokes, is there?

allan said...

wang has still thrown 18 fewer pitches than buchholz.

allan said...

Wang or no Wang, we've got some Mother's Day Miracle Mojo.

Patrick said...

NINTH INNING MAGIC BABY! It's ON!!!

laura k said...

Girardi is smarter than I thought. Didn't think he'd leave him in.

allan said...

We have a visitor!!!

F-Bat up.

Patrick said...

Time to beat the wang people.

allan said...

why do the sox radio guys keep saying that if drew's ball was caught, wang would have a no-hitter right now?

i expect 7-year-olds to think that everything else would be the same, but not professionals.

Patrick said...

Ughhh

allan said...

s'tel og, ococ!

laura k said...

So Harvey is happy tonight.

When I think of Amy & Harvey at the game tonight, it seems hard to believe that was us, for so many years.

Patrick said...

I'm keeping the faith tonight. It's not over. Especially not with Covelli kick ass Crisp.

Patrick said...

Booooo ya

allan said...

YEAH! here we go.

allan said...

i can't listen to castig anymore tonight - annoying as hell.

Patrick said...

I'll take extra innings. No need to win it here.

laura k said...

I'd feel a lot more faithy with one less out. But I'm still here.

Patrick said...

I'm away from the radio so it's Yahoo refresh mode right now.

allan said...

alright i have to listen -- but his stupidity is driving up a fraggin tree.

Patrick said...

I hope he reaches on an A-Rod error

Rob said...

Fail.

laura k said...

Bah.

Well, few teams could have overcome that pitching. He threw an amazing game.

Tomorrow, Bullwinkle! Nothing up his sleeve.

allan said...

fook and poop.

Patrick said...

WAAAAAA!!!! Guess we're going for 2 of 3.

See ya tomorrow.

laura k said...

I'm outta here. Hasta tomorrow.

Jere said...

beat it by 12 people! So me and Amy and Harvey and nine other people made the difference! We did not meet up, by the way.

Quick thinkin' on the picnic/ants line.

"So there is an actor worse than Terry Francona, and his name is Dustin Pedroia. That tire commercial has hit a new low."

L: I beat you to that, early one March morn' (see my 6:07 AM comment here). It really is amazing. You couldn't act that bad if you were a pro actor purposely playing a bad actor.

This stinks--two games in a row I've been to where we leave Papi on deck as the tying run in the 9th. Wang really gave us the shaft tonight.

laura k said...

Jere, I remember that comment! And I remember wondering, what could horror could that be?? But we were watching a different feed, didn't see local NESN ads.

Amy said...

Missed seeing Jere last night...where were you?

The game was great except that we lost. The rain didn't last long, and it wasn't even that cold. Our seats were amazing. Wang, unfortunately, was also amazing.

But for Timlin, it would have been a great game all around.

It's sunny this morning in Boston---hope the weather holds. We're down to the Cape for clean up day, so probably I will not be around for the game. GO SOX!
