Isn't there something he could take for that? a shot or something?

That would be great--C-Note at 3rd...

I just hope A-Rod's back in the lineup by October.

NOW I am feeling Schadenfreude. Even feeling guilty about it. But isn't that par for the course for me...?

Manny Ramirez is an idiot: He could of got what at least $40 Million for playing at Fenway for the next 2 seasons but instead he gets a $45 Million deal playing for a team that AINT no championship contender, (of course we are and will continue to be) the $45 Million really is only $44 after he HAS to make a donation to the Dodgers foundation, then its only $42 after he agent Scott Boras gets his cut, (roughly 5%) then it gets cut down to $40 after other expenses. So was all this worth it? After all this has happened his come out even well in my book it was not worth it. Can't wait for his annual July trade wish....

Re Manny, the only idiots are the Red Sox. He's rich, playing and seems to be happy. We are without him. It's our loss, and it's mostly the Red Sox's fault.

Expect a lot of fluctuation on the A-Rod situation. According to a RLYW comment, Cashman just spoke and said that the cyst was drained, he rests 2-3 weeks, and may be able to play after that.

Then again, there's talk that the cyst was caused by a torn labrum, so...it could also end being a lot worse than it sounds.

As for Manny, I wasn't fond of the way the Sox handled it after he left. But I became reluctantly convinced over time that he did indeed quit on his contract, if not the team. So, yeah, the whole thing is a shame. I would have much preferred to have him around this year and next.

@ Seawolves:

Manny wasn't guaranteed that 20 million, and after this offseason (w/r/t contracts), there's reason to believe we wouldn't have picked up the 2010 contract. If he had an off year this year, he might have had to sign a Bobby Abreu/Adam Dunn/Pat Burrell style deal, and lost out on some serious money.

@ L-Girl

The Red Sox aren't idiots, they got a haul for Manny. We've got Jason Bay this year for only 7 million, and the money we saved more than covers the Baldelli, Smoltz, Saito, Penny, and Bard contracts. Those 5 + Bay are projected at 75 VORP this year, whereas Manny is projected at 45 VORP.

Not even taking into account the difference in outfield defense that Bay represents, that deal + the subsequent moves we've made this offseason represent a net gain of about 3 wins.

The only idiots in this whole thing are the Dodgers, who agreed to spend 45 million dollars when there didn't even appear to be any other offers on the table for Manny. If they would have been a little more patient, they probably could have saved some money.

ESPN is suggesting there's an underlying labral tear that caused the cyst, so A*Rod could be seeing Lowell-esque recovery time, not the eight weeks Boras is talking about.

And Cashman's confirmed A*Rod has a torn labrum, though they're hoping he can avoid surgery until after this season.

So a choice between Ransom and a gimpy A*Rod? Or a gimpy A*Rod for now and then Ransom when surgery become inevitable? That can't help their division race.

Zink gave up 4 runs and didn't retire a batter today.

But Joba one-upped him, allowing 5 runs without getting an out.

Now Cashman saying they may delay A-Rod's surgery till end of season. They've got a lot of really expensive seats to sell at that shiny new stadium, so they'd probably rather have a hobbling A-Rod out there over a nobody. (Or at least by saying this is an option, they don't make companies immediately decide to pass on season tickets.)

Against Canada, no less! Never fear, Igawa came in with three scoreless innings. The Yanks managed 4 hits and no runs against the powerhouse Canadian pitching staff.

This is going to be interesting to watch. If it's a "torn" anything, A-Rod will want to get it fixed pronto and apparently the Yankees are hell-bent on having him so they can put asses in seats in their shiny new stadium.

Re: Manny - let's cut to the chase. Spx Management villified him and Manny did everything he could to get sent out of town. Neither side was willing to try to work things out (Boras client. Duh?), so he left.

MLB is a business and the only thing that matters to agents and teams is money. I'm astounded that Manny turned down as many offers as he did from the Dodgers, but either there was a sticking point somewhere or Boras was trying to milk it for all he could get.

I'm just glad he's playing next year because it would be a real shame if he didn't.
