Red Sox - 000 000 000 - 0 2 0Masterson: 9-2-0-2-6, 110.
Cleveland - 101 100 08x - 11 10 0
The Big Donkey was around the plate all night and the Sox hitters were swinging at anything and everything. Victor Martinez singled with one out in the second and J.D. Drew singled with one down in the fifth. Masterson issued two walks -- Jeremy Hermida to start the sixth and Kevin Youkilis with two outs in the seventh -- and that was it for Boston baserunners.
Buchholz had a tough first inning -- single, two walks, 30 pitches -- and was lucky to get out with only one run against him. Cleveland padded its lead, but they did not hit HH very hard. A triple (thanks to an ill-advised dive by Hermida in center) and a GIDP made it 2-0 in the third and a single and a couple of wild pitches put the Spiders on top 3-0 in the fourth. His fastball had too much sink on it and the home plate umpire was adamant about not calling anything in the lower third of the strike zone.
The bullpen took over for the eighth and it was ugly. The first nine batters -- and 12 of the first 13 -- reached base. Boof Bonser made his debut: walk, single, walk, RBI single. Then it was Joe Nelson's turn: RBI single, grand slam HR, single, double, walk, GIDP, walk, walk, RBI single, strikeout. 14 batters, 60 pitches, 8 runs.
The Rays beat the Blue Jays 10-1 and the Yankees beat Baltimore 4-2. Boston is in third, 5 GB Tampa Bay.Clay Buchholz / Justin Masterson
Buchholz comes into this game with a streak of 18 consecutive scoreless innings and 0.99 ERA over his last five starts. Although Buchholz is second in ERA (2.39) to Tampa Bay's David Price (2.29), the two men are tied with the best ERA+ in the American league (187). Price gets the ball tonight against Toronto.Scutaro, SS

After he was traded to Cleveland last year, Masterson pitched in 11 games, including 10 starts. He had an ERA of 4.80 -- a bit worse than league average (4.75) -- in those starts, but the team was 1-9 in those games. Runs scored by Cleveland in Masterson's starts: 5, 0, 11, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 0. Masterson has made 11 starts this season, with a 5.46 ERA and 1.820 WHIP.

NESN mentioned that Masterson's ERA was 3.76 during his time with the Sox. Big diff.
It's still not Tribe Time.
I'm looking forward to this matchup tonight. I always liked Masterson, and have been wishing him well. I guess I always root a little harder for the guys whose ML debuts I've seen in person. In this case, that's both Buchholz and Masterson.
So... hi Justin, but go Clay!
i liked the big donkey too.
stuck with the CLE feed - blasting some howlin' wolf instead!
stop thinking, clay
these guys suck - plow thru 'em
nice running catch by drew!
Drew is so good in RF.
Good evening. Let's not break the streak of scoreless innings, Clay.
Damn, Clay trying to be Houdini?
you are not getting the low strike, though CLE TV had that ball 4 as strike 3. try something else.
dp pls.
And there goes the streak.
very clearly strike 3. fucking shitty umps.
goddamn it.
OK, quasi-Houdini.
sosh: "Indians score and the fan goes wild!"
long wait for masterson = run(s)
drew is due.
after 30 pit in the 1st, 1 out on 1 pitch here is good.
motherfucker is fucking clay on the low strike
I just remembered one disturbing detail - these "dream matchups" never go the way I want them to...
Volvo has a shamelessly bad promotion: Buy a Volvo, and if a Red Sox hitter hits the Volvo sign on Sept. 8th, you get 500$s in accessories.
Way to go out on a limb, guys.
what's with the ill-advised dives in CF?
okay, dp is good. only 2-0.
Nice going on mentioning the scoreless inning streak, Allan. You really jinxed him. If we lived in a world where jinxes actually existed.
You jinxed him in the subjunctive, Allan. Nice going. You should be deported.*
*back to the States so we could go out for drinks.
i am looking for a good subtitle for the blog.
should i consider "home of subjunctive jinxes"?

Haha, that's like the one a few years ago when Channel 38 still did some of the games. It had to be a game televised on Ch. 38 - and they were down to just Friday night games that year - and then if a Sox batter hit a homer on the 100th pitch of the game one lucky viewer selected before the game would be entered into a drawing to win a VW Bug. Not even win the thing, just entered into a drawing. That always killed me!
the sox are not responding to the wolf mojo ...
What happened to our offense? RS, you haven't seen it out at the bars in Toronto, have you?
So this is gonna be one of those games, huh...
i don't go to toronto bars, so i am not sure.
What the hell are the Indians doing trying to squeeze? I agree with Remy, I don't think that's a smart play.
OH. Come. ON!
shit
Have you all noticed that HH doesn't strike anyone out anymore? He doesn't have one today and I think he had like three or four in that complete game last time out.
TOR - 000
FKR - 201
rays still batting
price: 3-0-0-4-3
MFY - 000
BAL - 01
At least Heidi is looking delicious tonight.
time to whack a snake, beltre.
(is heidi wearing white?)
wow - bats are garbage today
BAL up 2-0 on CC
She is! Is there a way to post pictures here?
As for this game: pppbbbt! (that's supposed to be me spitting)
she looks best in white. works well with the tan.
(host a pic on photobucket or something and post a link?)
I'll see what I can do.
Four walks, no Ks. Not HHs best effort so far, and with our complete lack of offense so far, well, I'm not encouraged.
Ugh... even when HH is up in the count he can't come close to putting anyone away. Instead hes giving up hard hit balls on 0-2 and 1-2 pitches. That's a recipe for disaster.
And after saying all that I'll say this: Clay's getting squeezed.
Fragging ump is squeezing HH and freaking bats must be hung over from the champagne last night.
Ugly
This is too funny. I have the Cleveland feed. They just promoted a grocery store sale for....
Wheat Thins!
here we go ---
I am hating these DPs
While we're hating on commercials, NESN is promoting McDonald's new McCafe line of drinks. Sounds positively disgusting.
First K for HH. Only took 5+ innings.
HH sent down 8 of 9.
Big Donkey is making us look like we have a flight to catch.
Score runs, dammit.
a bit of the ol' hair of the dong might wake us up.
donkey with 85 pit thru 7.
So much for that "rally"...
boof up
Here are your Heidi photos:

This game has just reached the 2 hour mark. This is as dominating as I've seen any opposing pitcher this year.
hermida is looking a lot like bellhorn.
hermida is looking a lot like bellhorn.
Minus the hits and homers
Boof!
Wow, this is an exciting day. Boof Bonser's Red Sox debut... can't believe Heidi got all dressed up for this garbage
great start, asshole.
nelson up
... and hurrying
I'm not a fan of Mister Boeuf so far.
I predict in a year none of us will remember Boof Bonser ever pitched for the Red Sox.
RS - did you see the Heidi pics? Sorry, I usually don't obsess about stuff like this, but well, today there really isn't anything else positive to pay attention to. So, Heidi it is!
i did. i liked the last one best.
(i thought she would be outdoors.)
Thats it. Execute him.
Boof lied to me in Spring Training. He was autographing and a girl next to me asked him, "Did your mother really name you Boof?" He said "Yeah". But of course his real name is John, and he had it legally changed as an adult.
Unless maybe he meant that his mother called him that all his life, even though his name was John.
My mother said, "That must be the question you get asked more than anything else." He said, "Either that or, 'Why?'".
Let's hope it soon changes to Boof-ini.
SG had a decent ass shot recently. (I'm drawn more to the calf in that shot, actually.)
That's good stuff.
Honestly, I was trying like hell to get one of her smiling but she was only smiling for a second when they threw it to her and then after that it was all business. Still, the outfit is top notch today.
No question this is going to get worse before it gets better. I pronounce our chances of winning this game to be -120%.
Bring on Joe Nelson, Fireman.
let's send hall out there - nip this shit in the bud.
nickle and dime bull shit
I like the way yr thinking. I'm just wondering at this point why I'm still watching.
well that sucked royally
pronk salami dong. extra beefy.
Now thats some relief pitching right there. Clear those bases with the old meatball down the middle.
still NO FUCKING OUTS.
Okay, enough!
It seems completely clear to me that both Bonser and Nelson have no place on this roster.
In more humorous news, Bonser's ERA is infinite. Much like my frustration level.
Radio just asked if it is Bill Hall time.
might be time for a HBP!
RS - You may just see Hall before this calamity of an inning is over.
Yay, bases loaded again.
How about one out, just one? Maybe that would get them on a roll.
How many slams can one pitcher give up in one inning?
tito looks like he's about to turn around and go back to the hotel right now.
#30 has quite a legacy of immortals over the past decade-plus:
Keith Mitchell 1998
Jose Offerman 1999-2002
Ryan Rupe 2003
Curtis Leskanic 2004
Matt Clement 2005-06
Bryan Corey 2008
Jonathan Van Every 2008
Kevin Cash 2008
Jonathan Van Every 2009
Chris Woodward 2009
Boof Bonser 2010
Wow.
Win tomorrow and we've got the 3-1 we expected.
yep.
a triple play after letting 9 guys reach would have been amusing.
reddick and the top of the order for us in the 9th.
I said, ENOUGH!
DO calling for Hall now.
DO just wondered aloud whether or not we'd see Hall.
That is the third separate time this inning the Indians have had the bases loaded.
jesus wept
Castig just reported that Hall is in the dugout, not the bullpen.
give up another one ... i dare ya
TB is up 10-1 vs. Tor. I predict we lose a game in the standings tonight.
ugh
i'll take orsillo pitching at this point
Did you hear what I said? Tell me, what did I say?
My eyes hurt from watching that.
That was horrendous.
alright, then, just get it over with.
If we don't score, this will be the first complete shut out of the year.
Scutaro has actually hit the ball really hard at least twice tonight and has nothing to show for it.
OK, I'll say it:
Why can't we get players like that?
:(
Good night all.
this ain't football - we do this every day.
see you tomorrow night.
Boof Bonser and Joe Nelson actually managed to make me nostalgic for Mike Timlin tonight.
I see someone has immortalized The Big Donkey's shut out in Wikipedia.
