Pedro Ciriaco's double to left with two outs in the top of the ninth scored Jarrod Saltalamacchia with the go-ahead run. Salty had led off the frame with a double and taken third on a fly ball.
Andrew Bailey was touched for a two-out single in the bottom half, but he fanned Rajai Davis on three pitches to nail down the win.
The Jays scored in the first, but right fielder Cody Ross gunned down a potential second run from scoring. Then Ross led off the Boston second with a home run to tie the game.
The Red Sox took the lead in the fourth Ross walked, went to third on James Loney's single, and scored on Salty's single.
Buchholz (7-4-2-5-5, 111) allowed only one earned run.
