G75: Giants 5, Red Sox 4

Red Sox - 300 000 001 - 4 7 1
Giants - 031 000 01x - 5 12 1
The Red Sox deserved to lose this one. They left 13 men on base, including 11 in the last four innings. They left the bases loaded in the 6th, 7th, and 9th innings, and stranded two on the 8th.

Kevin Youkilis belted a three-run dong in the first, but the Giants quickly came back, and took the lead. Boston was down to its last out in the top of the ninth when Youkilis tripled to right-center. Victor Martinez singled him home and the Red Sox were within one. Adrian Beltre singled to left and Bill Hall walked. Bases loaded again -- but Darnell McDonald, who whiffed with the sacks full in the sixth, grounded to shortstop.

Dustin Pedroia fouled a ball off the inside of his left foot in the third inning. He ended up walking, but had to leave the game. X-rays were taken and the Red Sox said they are reviewing them and FY may have some more tests tomorrow. That is not encouraging news.

The Yankees beat the Dodgers 2-1, so the Red Sox and Rays (who were no-hit by Edwin Jackson of the Diamondbacks 1-0) are 3 GB.
Example
Tim Wakefield / Jonathan Sanchez

After using six relief pitchers last night, the Red Sox have called up left-hander Fabio Castro and optioned Josh Reddick back to Pawtucket.

And:
Diamondbacks/Rays, 7 PM
Yankees/Dodgers, 10 PM
Example
June 25:

1915 - Babe Ruth becomes the second player to hit a ball into the right-field seats at Fenway Park.

1967 - Heavyweight boxer Joe Frazier wants to teach baseball players how to fight. "All they do is hurt themselves instead of the other guy. ... [They] should know about combinations as well as double plays."

1976 - Rangers shortstop Toby Harrah becomes the only shortstop in MLB history to play an entire doubleheader without having a fielding chance. (Game 1 and Game 2)

1988 - The Angels begin their game against the Brewers with only two outfielders, as CF Devon White is in the clubhouse when the game starts. He misses only one pitch, however.

1989 - The Mets do not record any assists in a 5-1 win over the Phillies (13 strikeouts, 12 fly outs and two ground balls to first). It is the second such game in MLB history (Yankees, July 4, 1945).

1995 - Colorado's Andres Galarraga becomes the fourth player in history to hit home runs in three consecutive innings (6th, 7th, 8th).

I maybe an inning or two late getting back for tonight's game. Please be patient!

I'll be at the game. Wake might not have been my first choice for starting pitcher. I'm a little nervous that they'll feel like they have to leave him in if he has trouble, given the state of the bullpen today.

Sanchez has blossomed into a very good pitcher (though it seemed to take forever). Lefties hardly scare our lineup, though. We can take him.

I don't root against the Giants often, but this is going to be one of those times.

Hey somebody go get Redsock, it's one minute to game time!

tim said...

Holy fuck!!!!! Edwin Jackson no hit the rays!!!! Snakes win 1-0 on a laroche dong. 8 bb but fuck it - second time they've been no hit this year!

Suck it, staats!

Amy said...

Happy to be patient, though I may not be here past the first two innings anyway. These late starts are killers.

meunier said...

Sweaty 3 run dong in the 1st, Rays get no-hit by their old pitcher Edwin Jackson.

meunier said...

10 pitch inning for Wake, looks like the SF fog is helping him out.

westcoastsox said...

Yooooouk. I could have been at the game tonight, but passed it up because we had guests for dinner. Sob.

westcoastsox said...

wake is not helping himself here

nick said...

Been listening to the game while I clean he kitchen. Lots of action, eh? some good, some decidedly not so.

redsock said...

What happened to FY?

nick said...

welcome back! Now score runs, you guys!

tim said...

I guess our esteemed hosts are back!

I was hoping someone could shed some light on FY's "injury" - been following on iphone gdgd here, spending time with Steph, we started to watch a movie and now I want to watch the rest of it. She's gone to sleep.

meunier said...

Foul ball off the top of his foot, couldn't walk to 1st base when he took a walk on the next pitch.

tim said...

Ah, according to EB:

Trouble for the Sox. Dustin Pedroia fouled a ball off the inside of his left foot, stayed in the game long enough to draw a walk then barely made it to first base. He came out and was replaced by Mike Cameron.

tim said...

Well that sucks.

Sidenote to that, I actually read your comment Allan, then CTRL+T'ed and started typing "joy" in, subconsciously thinking "I'll check JoS to find out what happened to Pedey!"

tim said...

Alllright, movie done. Time for some comeback feat. wine.

nick said...

every grounder I've seen seems awfully slow. A park thing?

tim said...

jesus fuck, sandoval is fat.

thanks for that great freeze cam, NESN, with no semblance of freezing at any point during the replay.

tim said...

No idea, nick - don't watch the NL and haven't watched any part of this game prior to yooks AB just now.

maybe they cut the grass high?

redsock said...

rally time pls

meunier said...

Sergio Romo coming in for the Giants

nick said...

what do we want?
RUNS!
when do we want 'em?
NOW!
C'mon Hall.

tim said...

i was wondering what happened to aaron rowand. all i remember is him running into a CF fence and cutting his chin up, at some point between 2004-2007.

tim said...

Sir william hall, please do us kindly and swat a dong.

redsock said...

tim's idea of wine is an excellent idea, btw.

redsock said...

gotta cash in, boys.

nick said...

GO!

or not. crap.

Ish said...

I would have some beer but I'm going to go to bed soon. Hoping I'll stick around for the whole game but we'll see. I've been busy lately since my sister's been up here for work & I've been visiting her a few times the last couple days.

And surveying storm damage in the area today. Got a nasty microburst yesterday.

tim said...

"My" wine idea seems like a necessity at this point.

I was inspired by your box of white, Allan, and purchased one myself tonight. I wanted a glass or five, but am always pissed about having to open a whole bottle to have 1/2 of it. This is great!

meunier said...

This seems to keep happening to Wakefield, he will get down by a run and the team can't pick him up.

tim said...

TIMMAY!

redsock said...

the box is good, but it is hard to tell how much you have drunk. with a bottle, it is easy.

tim said...

WOW

Just went on to what I like to call "the internets" and saw sports news about the NHL draft - can't believe I totally forgot about that with the Bruins having the 2nd pick. Glad they got Tyler as opposed to Taylor. (Sorry Allan - OTT, totally baiting ish with that comment)

Nice play, Mr. Martinez!

tim said...

Yeah, I could see that becoming an issue

redsock said...

plus i think (on no evidence) they do not include as much wine in the bags as they say they do. paranoid about getting short-changed!

meunier said...

Wake left in there...

Ish said...

I was going to go down to Quincy Market for the draft party tonight but had dinner with my sister instead. Kinda bummed I didn't make it but I'll get over it.

redsock said...

it's a bit surprising.

casilla fears wake's BAT

tim said...

GOOD EYE, WAKE!!!

tim said...

I'd like to hope that if I filled up bottles with the box, it would fill up 4, as advertised (3L).

But I'm sure that it always is disappointing when the box ends - "what? that was 4 bottles ALREADY? but its only the top of the 7th!"

tim said...

Its not really a big deal, the NHL draft. How far are you from Boston - I always see stuff on twitter/facebook/here that you're always in town there for stuff!

tim said...

Jesus wake, nice slide

tim said...

RATS

redsock said...

WHITESIDEBALLA

redsock said...

yes, wake did not peel off and allow an unmolested throw to first -- like varitek does ALL THE FUCKIN TIME. man i hate that.

tim said...

bout time to continue that on base streak, naver!

redsock said...

green light pls

tim said...

2x2x DOUBLE UP
WHITESIDEBALLA!!!!!

Ish said...

I had a bunch of friends I was going to meet up with down there then go to Boston Beer Works. I'm about an hour north of Boston but I can't get down there all the time. Compared to you lot, yes.

redsock said...

nice hacking, shithead

tim said...

why is nesn advertising sunday's game?

what is going on tmrw, it starts at 7? some sort of weird-ass "fuck you red sox fans, you get mccarver in prime time" ploy by fox?

or maybe they'll get bill o'reilly to do colour. that'd be swell.

redsock said...

mfy 2, lad 1 in 7th

tim said...

for some reason i thought you were near portland, which, from what i remember is like 2 hours out of boston. but iirc, you're near kittery? or at least near NH, which makes sense now.

oh thinking, how i underestimate your abilities.

tim said...

I love that fat man.

tim said...

FUCK SAKES

redsock said...

squanderiffic

nick said...

fuck.

meunier said...

Fuck you Victor, can you get a RISP hit for once??

redsock said...

i guess we need at least 5 wild pitches in an inning to get a run in

tim said...

Nice to see Juan Uribe hasn't kicked the bucket yet either.

Now I see where the term "senior circuit" comes from.

westcoastsox said...

With the no hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays today, that's the second time this year the Rays have been no hit. I just checked BR, and of the 262 sanctioned major league no hitters dating back to 1875, a team has been no hit twice in one season a dozen times (most recently, the 2001 San Diego Padres by AJ Burnett and Bud Smith; only once have the two no hitters been on consecutive days).

Did you know that no team has ever been no hit three times in one year? I say the Rays go for it.

tim said...

this 3 hits in 7 innings is quite annoying. fix that, pls.

beltre snaked that.

meunier said...

BELTRE!

tim said...

time for some good times!

redsock said...

put it in the bay, flo.

Ish said...

Tim, I'm right next to Kittery, so it's about 45 minutes south of Portland, an hour east of Manchester and an hour north of Boston. So yup.

tim said...

It all makes sense, now make sense of this game, scut!

tim said...

fucking awful.

LOBotomy if ive ever heard of one.

redsock said...

LOB-otomy.

tim said...

I'd like to see Tito go with the traditional single switch here, and have Ortiz pitch the 8th. For shits and giggles.

Ish said...

Further review on Pedroia's X-Ray... Means it didn't come back negative.

That is bad news, bears.

tim said...

So Pedey broke his foot. Fuck.

Ish said...

Not sure yet but they're not saying he didn't break something.

tim said...

I am going to miss Pedroia. ugh.

Ish said...

You and me both, Junior.

redsock said...

switchover to YES and what do i hear?

"there's a strike."

fruitbat in for the bot 9th, up 2-1. 1 out, no one on.

redsock said...

2-out triple from yook.

c'mon vic

tim said...

Hopefully tomorrow will have regular uniforms. This is too much for me tonight, especially that fuckin' orange there.

redsock said...

tease. 5-4.

tim said...

Solid blue light discount there, but that fucking sac fly in the 8th. God dammit.

Lets go Beltre, this closer is fuckin' cooked.

Time to go in my room.

redsock said...

Smile?

FUCK YOU!

Ish said...

Ugh. Sparkling clean water. Goodnight.

meunier said...

When does Ellsbury come back already?

tim said...

13 lob? I watched innings 6-9 and recall 11 of the 13. 3 bases loadeds, and the 8th with 2 on, iirc.

oh well, sleep time. not sure if laura got my email or not, but i wasn't able to make it there today to pick up my sunglasses - so take em outta the mailbox please if they're still there!

i'll figure out when i can come by next week to grab em. but i found out today i get free ones with my work benefit plan, and since my eyes are much shittier than that prescription, i might grab another set.

tim said...

Still 7-3 in their last 10. Just do that all season, .700 ball, suuuure!

redsock said...
