McDonald: Red Sox Offer 2/18 to Ortiz

Update: Ortiz has accepted arbitration.
Example
According to Joe McDonald of ESPNBoston, the Red Sox have offered David Ortiz a two-year deal worth $18 million. Ortiz is seeking 2/25 (so much for that four-year security blanket).
A Red Sox source says "one way or another" Ortiz will be in a Boston uniform in 2012.

So - agree on 2/22 before his arbitration decision tomorrow at midnight and call it done.

Two years and $18 million seems like an insult.

He's a 36 year old DH.

I love him , but an insult, I think more of a preliminary offer.

What percentage of players would anyone put on guys using HGH?

Guys using something to get an edge? Especially something that is not tested for and cannot be detected? One-third easy, and 50% would not surprise me. ... But I'm a cynic.

Yeah, for HGH - but there has to be a bunch of things than are not detected by those tests.

True, but I would have expected something just a tad higher, maybe in the $10-$11 million per year.

Of course, now it's a moot point with Ortiz accepting arbitration. Now he stands to possibly get $15 million in 2012.

...or they're getting exemptions for them. Check out this article from 2009. That 9% rate is probably in the same spot or might even be higher now.

Just sign him for 2/25 or something since hes guaranteed at least 15 this year.
