Marco Scutaro, Javier Lopez, and the rest of San Francisco Giants rallied from a 1-3 deficit to win the National League pennant Monday night, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7. (The Giants also came back from 0-2 to win the best-of-5 NLDS against the Reds.)
The Giants outscored the Cardinals 20-1 over the final three games, winning by scores of 5-0, 6-1, and 9-0.
NLCS MVP Scutaro batted .500 in the series, tying an LCS record with 14 hits and setting a record with six multi-hit games.
Game 1: Tigers at Giants, Wednesday, 8 PM.
The Giants won the 2010 World Series, beating the Rangers in five games. This is the first Series appearance for the Tigers since 2006, when they lost to St. Louis in five games. The Tigers' last championship came in 1984.

Marco Scutaro: why can't we get a player like that?
Sigh. :(

Aw come on, that has to be said with a smile or a laugh. The man had a good week in October. We hardly missed him when he left.
A bittersweet smile and a chuckle.
I read a piece in OTM yesterday about the so-called Nomar curse---how the Sox have had bad luck filling the shortstop position ever since he was traded. So Scutaro's success in the NLCS seems particularly bittersweet.
I am still lamenting the fact that the Sox did not hold on to Cabrera, so how can you expect me to be too light-hearted about Scutaro? :)
I think Scutaro is playing second base now, and he's better defensively there than he was at short. Of course he was never going to play 2B in Boston.
Another thing to never forget about Scutaro: During the tragic collapse of September '11, he was on fire.
Higher OPS that last month than Papi, Gonzalez, Pedroia, basically everyone but Ellsbury. Then he was shown the door. I was pissed at Renteria when he became an October Gene Tenace, but I'm happy for Marco. (Though it does feel like McCarver's rubbing it in with the "is there anything he can't do?"-type talk.)

Yep... 118 games at second base this season split between Colorado and San Francisco.
Per BBRef, OPS+ was 99 for the season. With Colorado before the trade, it was 73; after the trade to San Francisco, it was 145. It's been a good second half for Scoot.
I have nothing against Scutaro. I just don't worry about infielders past.

Curse of Nomar, I believe that's when your once-star shortstop uses steriods, gets too bulked-up, stops hitting, and - in between OCD rituals - sulks.

But we won TWO championships since Nomar was traded, so that's a curse I can live with.
I didn't say I bought into the curse, but it's not a curse like THE CURSE. Rather, it's limited to being unable to find a SS who will stick and succeed.
We certainly have not had much success finding such a SS yet.
I know! Just fartin' around.
