The A team was back on the field last night and the result was a nice, relaxing win. The Red Sox were on the bases all night long, collecting 15 hits and seven walks and leaving 15 men on base.
Johnny "23 game hitting streak" Damon got four hits and a walk, David Ortiz collected a single, double, three walks and two RBI, Manny Ramirez singled twice and drove in three runs (he now has 80), Bill Mueller singled three times with two RBI and Mark Bellhorn singled twice and scored two runs. Bellhorn also notched his 100th strikeout of the season.
Bronson Arroyo pitched 7.2 innings and was pulled after Rafael Palmeiro belted a solo home run in the eighth (his 2,995th career hit). Before that, the last Baltimore hit had been Sosa's single in the third. Jeremi Gonzalez and "Wayne" Embree finished up.
In New York, Mariano Rivera narrowly averted blowing New York's 5-4 victory over Cleveland. The Yankees' sixth straight win moved them past the Orioles into second place, 3.5 games behind the Sox.
