G17: Red Sox 7, Yankees 5

Red Sox - 014 020 000 - 7 13 0
Yankees - 000 030 002 - 5 8 1
Josh goes 8!! 8-6-3-1-5, 105.

Manny hit home runs in each of his first two plate appearances (and scored three runs). Youkilis, Pedroia, Drew and Varitek each had two hits.

Moose Being Moose: 3-7-5-0-1, 77.

***

Josh Beckett (6.35, 70 ERA+) / Mike Mussina (4.15, 101 ERA+)

Dear Josh: Please give us more than 5 innings. If you gave us 7, you'd be the first starter to do so this season. We would like that.

slugo = fast

Benjamin said...

Career 80 ERA+, so I guess he's below league-replacement.

laura k said...

hey, i got #201 and #401

Amy said...

Lugo = still trying to be LBJ

allan said...

lugo beats it out

kay says you got to give credit to casey for going in hard to jeter at second -- BUT he peeled off and had nothing to do with the play.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!

s1c said...

hey, i got #201 and #401

Does that mean you are #1

lets get some more runs, Beckett looks like he is going to come back out.

laura k said...

well he's no lbj... but who is??

Benjamin said...

Does that steal make his at bat a sacrifice to move the runner over?

Benjamin said...

Well, if it were scored as a steal, I mean.

allan said...

kay saying lugo suprised yanks by running hard .. but cano made a crappy throw to jeter at second, down and off to ci's left. all three YES men quiet about that

SoSock said...

Woo! Woo!
Just got in from softball with the granddaughter. Looking good on JoS.
Pulling up GDGD in another screen as I type so I can watch us regain the season lead on the Evil Empire!

Patrick said...

Show them how it's done LBJ

Rob said...

heh. YES men.

Rob said...

Beckett's back out for the 8th.

s1c said...

Here comes Joshie!!!

allan said...

kay: "and it looks like beckett's going to picth the 8th ... yankees leading ... umm, yankees trailing 7-3"

Patrick said...

Allan, it sounds like you need to hit mute and listen to Joe C. more often than not.

laura k said...

We can't do that. MLB audio not really loud enough, plus a very big delay.

Rob said...

FY!!! WITH THE D!

Amy said...

OK, so far so good. One pitch, one out. At this rate he can complete the game with only 101 pitches total. As if...

allan said...

plus - i'm not the biggest joe c. fan.

Benjamin said...

It's sad that Stolichnaya has to advertise itself as "Russian vodka". Folk think it's Peruvian now?

Patrick said...

I'm listening to MLB audio, and if I refresh too quick I see your comments of what happens before I hear it.

s1c said...

There is a pretty good delay on WTIC also, prety much one pitch behind.

Rob said...

There is a pretty good delay on WTIC also, prety much one pitch behind.

I'm about a second ahead with the radio.

Benjamin said...

101 through 7.2.

SoSock said...

Bobby Abrasive - SIT DOWN!

laura k said...

That's why I couldn't stand modding while I had MLB audio at work on the weekends. I'd know the outcome of the at-bat before the player ever stepped to the plate.

Phrenile, I thought the same thing re Stoli.

Mmmmmm, vodka.... /homer

Patrick said...

I love Josh.

s1c said...

Remy - if Retalation is going to come tonight, its right here! But you have to remember about suspension.

Amy said...

So are radio waves just slower than cable transmission? But then Jere was seeing the game on NESN earlier than I was. Someone tried to explain this last time. Chief, I believe.

Rob said...

Wow. FY AGAIN!!!

Benjamin said...

Past a diving Beckett.

Amy said...

No slap from Slappy?

SoSock said...

K-Rod - SIT DOWN!

s1c said...

I'm about a second ahead with the radio.

You are listening to the home station right?

WTIC is part of the broadcast network, feed goes through a few switches.

Patrick said...

Beckett smashes our 6.2 IP record for the season. I'd like to see Lester match him.

allan said...

why retaliate? we're shoving these fuckers out of first place ... we'll drill 'em in july.

Patrick said...

Sox haven't won in the Toilet since May of last year.

s1c said...

FY!!!

Time for a Papi Dong!!!

SoSock said...

8 for Beckett
I hope you guys who can see the game are seeing Paps in the Pen

Rob said...

You are listening to the home station right?

I'm listening to an FM affiliate out of Beverly. There's another FM station closer to me that is just a touch slower than this one. And the sound isn't as clear. Strange.

Heh. Mass exodus at the Toilet.

FY's 10th multi-hit game, out of 17 played this year.

s1c said...

Bot up!!!

allan said...

bot warming easily

Rob said...

8 for Beckett
I hope you guys who can see the game are seeing Paps in the Pen

Yep. He's there.

Amy said...

Papi's swing looks good, but he's just not getting as much power.

Rob said...

Darn. Close to a third dong.

SoSock said...

Wow, is at true?
No late season wins at the toilet last year?
I didn't realize.

s1c said...

I'm pretty sure that WTIC gets its feed through the phone lines, at least two switch stations from boston, then out to the transmitter, etc.

Patrick said...

Thats what Dave said, So

nick said...

Youk needs some steel-toe cleats.

Choker fans got no faith.

Benjamin said...

Just spell it Столичная, and the point will get across.

РЮМКА СТОЛИЧНИЙ.

Better go get the Skyy.

Rob said...

I'm pretty sure that WTIC gets its feed through the phone lines, at least two switch stations from boston, then out to the transmitter, etc.

Telegram.

laura k said...

Sox haven't won in the Toilet since May of last year.

Really? Are you sure?

Amy said...

Wow, those wussy Yankee fans leave before the game is over. Last Friday at Fenway, I don't think anyone left even though we were losing.

Benjamin said...

These pseudo-fans annoy me. Everyone knows the Pope doesn't wear his name on the back of his hat.

Rob said...

Gabe Kapler is on the front page of ESPN.com

Amy said...

Three more outs. Pap in? Beckett coming back?

s1c said...

Yes, the Sox had lost 5 in a row at the stadium. Longest losing streak since 2001?

Rob said...

Last three games at the Toilet were Aug. 28-30 when they got swept.

laura k said...

Apparently he is sure. Seems odd, yet it is true.

Benjamin said...

The Gabe?

laura k said...

stoli > skyy

absolut > stoli

any vodka > any other substitute

SoSock said...

WOO! WOO!
GDGD just flashed Bot's picture up. I'm happy now.

s1c said...

I think the last win was Sexy Lips in the Einstein home run game. I think!

allan said...

thirsty in LF

laura k said...

People leave Fenway early. Maybe they didn't last Friday night, but they do in plenty of games.

Amy said...

OK, where was that link last night when you all were salivating over Erin Andrew's "wrists"?

Rob said...

55,088 attendance.

Temporally.

allan said...

last YS win was May 22, 2007

lips beat mussina

laura k said...

Ewwwwww!! I just clicked on that link "the gabe". YUCK.

Rob said...

Now we know who Arnold worked out with.

Amy said...

The guys here seem to like well-developed pectoral muscles.

Benjamin said...

Not sure that 1-2 on Dumbo was a strike.

Benjamin said...

Well, 1-1.

s1c said...

OK, where was that link last night when you all were salivating over Erin Andrew's "wrists"?

We were expecting either you or tdcg to find your own pics.

SoSock said...

HGHK

Amy said...

We are too deep for that. We are interested in their minds.

:)

laura k said...

I think you mean me or tdcg. :)

But men or women, bigger is not necessarily better.

Rob said...

Sock - Has Kay predicted the Yankees win yet?

Amy said...

Oh, poopy.

s1c said...

L-girl, to answer your question earlier, "I don't know, maybe"

allan said...

espn and erin was last night. we move forward.

Amy said...

No, he meant me. You weren't here when TDCG and I were giving them a hard time for posting revealing photos of Erin Andrews.

SoSock said...

Dammit.
I know it's unrealistic, but I just want him to strike out EVERYBODY!

Benjamin said...

I considered posting it last night too, but hey. I don't go for the shrunken-balls look.

allan said...

tekballa -- toilet fans rockin'

Amy said...

I will accept a sac fly here to get the second out. Just get an out.

laura k said...

No, he meant me. You weren't here

I know. But, uh... I was referring to something else.

Benjamin said...

Almost used "kynodesme" to describe Gabe there. Would anyone have known what that was?

Patrick said...

You want Cano to fly some sac?

Patrick said...

http://www.addicks3.fsnet.co.uk/nat/
nudelife/kynod/kynod.htm

SoSock said...

Maybe another splitter?

laura k said...

Phrenile, no idea. Tell us?

laura k said...

We will accept a 7-4 win.

SoSock said...

C'mon Pap. Throw strikes to the dud.

Rob said...

Roy Halladay - CG loss to TX today.

laura k said...

OK, we'll take a 7-5 win. But let's get it over with already.

allan said...

a win's a win - extract the molar.

s1c said...

Bot looks like he is over throwing. Maybe he had too much rest. (1st run agaist bot in his career at the staduim).

Oops, make that two.

Amy said...

Oh, shit. Maybe Josh should have come back.

I looked it up, Phrenile. Sounds terribly painful (and wouldn't work on Gabe anyway).

Patrick said...

" When the kynodesme was worn in the form of a waist strap, it maintained the penis in the upright position, clearly exposing the balls, which were also considered pleasing to the eye. "

SoSock said...

Shit!
Where WAS that pitch?

Benjamin said...

The Kynodesme.

Basically, ancient Greek athletes would tie a strap around their foreskins to make their penises pointier.

allan said...

bot v shemp

Amy said...

Gabe---no foreskin, one would assume.

allan said...

do not doubt the bot

Rob said...

WE WIN!!!!

Benjamin said...

Water. Pointy phallic water.

Amy said...

OK, so we get the win! YAY!!

s1c said...

Finally, Matsui wasn't happy!

First place all alone!!!

Benjamin said...

amy: just saying he looks a little pointy in that photo.

SoSock said...

It pleases me greatly that Matsui made the last out. :)

allan said...

dirty water flowing in the bronx

Patrick said...

Interesting facts about kynodesme, lots of dissing on Kay, and another fun night @ JoS.

Amy said...

I am too embarrassed to go back and check it out!

laura k said...

Glad I didn't click on any of those links, sounds hideous. Pleasing to the eye, eh? Hmm.

Amy has the right idea anyway. The WSJ mostly likely doesn't have a foreskin.

Rob said...

The WSJ mostly likely doesn't have a foreskin.

Heh.

The Wall Street Journal likely doesn't have a foreskin.

Patrick said...

So my terrible movie choices of the night are Spider man 2, Troy, and Bourne Supremacy.

Which evil do I choose, Sexy lips Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, or Toby Maguire?

laura k said...

We sure have a range of topics here on JoS.

Nice win. Could have been nicer (like a shut out) but a win's a win. We heart Josh. He of no nickname.

Good night!

SoSock said...

OK - to the showers!
Great day. Sox beat the MFY.
Lady Knights beat the 1st place Arcadia team.
Just glad my granddaughter doesn't follow JoS or she would know I called her team by last year's name earlier.
Pretty much unforgivable.

laura k said...

Aw c'mon, I bet the Wall Street Journal has a foreskin!

Jere said...

I think a creative retaliation would've been Tek sticking out his foot and tripping Melky as he crossed the plate on his short porch circumcised dong.

Thanks to L's comment days ago, we've been on a pizza kick, and it's caused me to miss a bunch of time in threads, including just now. But we get the win and we leave with a split.

Amy said...

Good night all! Great game, great game thread.

s1c said...

So, should we start a pool for MBM's 500th?

laura k said...

Hope the pizza was good, Jere. Ours was fab. It will be winter the next time I have pizza, probably.

Benjamin said...

Paps nearly tripled his ERA that inning.

Jere said...

"So, should we start a pool for MBM's 500th?"

Aw, come on, redsock promoted it and everything...

Rob said...

I had pizza tonight, also.

Of course, it was Domino's. Ehh.

Anonymous said...

vquzeshuf: I think Beckett had a good showing tonight. He gave a pretty good 7+ innings with only 3 runs allowed. I hope he gets back on the winning streak and help carry the team on his shoulders throughout the season. We need him this year and hopefully his back spasms don't ruin his season.

Wow, Allan will be thrilled to hear this when he wakes up.

allan said...

Game over at 4:22 AM!

Reminds me of the best game I ever attended.

August 23, 1989!

L and I were in Vermont seeing friends and we were going to go up for Monday's game. We changed plans at the last minute and said fine, we'll go see the Expos on Wednesday instead.

allan said...

Wow. Rox and Pads scoreless for 13, then both teams get a run in the 14th, then scoreless until the Rox get 1 in the top of the 22nd!

Rob said...

If you like quotes from players and the manager, then today's your day.

Tito, on the pained expression on his face when Farnsworth threw behind Manny: "I had gas. I was just glad it didn't hit Manny. A 98 at your lips is going to hurt."

Rob said...

They had a 7th inning stretch.

They had a 14th inning stretch.

They had a 21st inning stretch.

allan said...

We had the 7/14/21 stretches in Montreal too. Youppi also came out in pajamas and a pillow. Thought we saw a triple play in the 17th or something, but it was only a DP.

I had to use a scorecard at the park that night and it was getting quite full by the 14th or so. I went out to get another one -- and all the concessions were closed.

Rob said...

I can think of a future conversation later on in life...

"Can I have two scorecards?"

"Uh, why do you need two?"

"What if this game goes 18 innings? Or 22!?"

laura k said...

Thought we saw a triple play in the 17th or something, but it was only a DP.

Players came running out on the "field" to celebrate, only to be called back in and keep playing.

What a night! When we got out of the game, the metro wasn't running, Montreal had set up special shuttle buses to bring people home. People were lined up with sleeping bags...sleeping out for Rolling Stones tickets! It was very disorienting.

nick said...

Your '89 game went 22 innings, but game time was only 5:14. you'd think they could do better than that. Give the sox/MFY a slap at 22 innings you'd be there almost 10 hrs or so (judging by a time of ~4hrs/9in game).

nixon33 said...

niether the pads or the rox could get to 2nd base!
a couple of close plays, to no avail. i wanted to see a utility player pitch, thats what i was routing for. and the broadcasters! what a difference from us psycho sox fans/don and remy. the other team would get a hit and they are all " well thats ok, they are bound to hit sometime..." hahahaha
my poor girlfriend wasnt too psyched about watching the 22 nning game, especially after i watech the mets go to 14 the same night!

laura k said...

Your '89 game went 22 innings, but game time was only 5:14.

But it was scoreless! Ended 1-0. That makes up for anything.

Anonymous said...

I think Josh will be a big asset to the Sox victories this season. He needs to give more than 5 innings like Rob said, and if he does that, he'll be earning his pay check.
