Fighting Terrorism At Yankee Stadium

New York Post:
Security guards collected garbage bags full of sunblock at the entrances to Yankee Stadium over the sweltering weekend, when temps hit 96 degrees and the UV index reached a skin-scorching 9 out of 10 - a move team officials said was to protect the Stadium from terrorism. ...

Four weeks ago, Stadium officials decided that sunscreen of all sizes and varieties would not be permitted, a security supervisor told The Post before last night's game. ...

The Stadium does sell 1-ounce bottles of Arizona Sun SPF 15 for $5 - a huge markup that makes its beer seem cheap. ...

An hour after being asked about the sunscreen ban, Yankee spokesman Jason Zillo told The Post that the rules would be changed to permit 3-ounce containers.

"The first 20,000 fans in attendance will receive free skin-cancer screenings courtesy of Steinbrenner Cancer Clinics...."

And the first 100 fans to pass out from sunstroke should sue.

These people are insane.

random stadium questions.
if one was to purchase bleacher (no alcohol) seats, are you trapped in that section and have no access to the rest of the stadium? is that true?

I don't think so. I think you can move around, unless it's changed since 2003. The only place you're trapped with no access to the rest of the Stadium is the bleachers.

Hey, did you ever make it to Monument Park that day?

hmm but they are bleacher seat, or do you mean where the creatures sit?

i got there early but as soon as i got to the entrance, of course they shut it down for the day.
im going on 8/27 and am going to get there super early, you know watch batting, harass timlin, etc.

Bleacher Creatures are in RF, the other bleachers (farther away from the field) are LF, but both are not connected to the rest of the Stadium. Separate entrance and you can't move from the bleachers to the rest of the seats.

The guy whose wedding we just went to was my buddy in those bleachers for a long time. On the wedding cake, the little groom was wearing a NYY cap.

Yes. As L says, the bleachers are their own section, cut off from the rest of the park. You can move from the LF section to the RF section, but it's all bleachers.

Everyone out there must get tanked right up until game time, then go in.

At Fenway, in 2004 they HANDED OUT (free) sunblock. I got one and still have the bottle (it is expired now)

You never know when those damn terrorists are going to strike Yankee Stadium...and those bottles of sunscreen will explode...I REALLY can't wait for that f'n dump to meet the wrecker's ball.

To Nixon33: It's true. You only have access to that individual bleacher section if you buy a ticket out there. You can't go anywhere else in the park. I was there for the first time last month.

They're for people who don't like being around drunks. More "family friendly", so-called.

The sunscreen (et al) stems from the attitudes of owners and management, not from a building. Nothing will change except the ticket prices.

The terrorist have already won. Or they would have it weren't for the dastardly-wise Yankees.

As I understand it, Al-kinda (badness) had developed an in depth plan to infiltrate the sunscreen bottling and packing plants, replacing our usual SPF60 with a placebo. A nefarious plot that would result in countless future melanoma deaths among America's Most Patriotic(tm) -- Yankees Fans.

Thank America's God this plan was foiled. Thank you Steinbrenners!
