G108: Angels 6, Red Sox 2

Angels - 002 200 200 - 6 7 0
Red Sox - 000 000 002 - 2 2 1
Lackey was two outs away from a no-hitter -- it would have been the first no-no against the Red Sox at Fenway Park since July 20, 1958 -- but Dustin Pedroia singled cleanly through the shortstop hole into left and Kevin Youkilis followed with a home run off one of the signs above the Monster Seats.

Tampa (Garza: 9-5-0-1-5, 106) shutout Toronto 3-0 to drop us 2 GB. Baltimore held on to beat New York 7-6, so the Yankees are 4 GB.

***

John Lackey (3.02, 138 ERA+) / Clay Buchholz (5.81, 75 ERA+)

In three starts (15 innings) since coming back from the disabled list, Buchholz has a 6.60 ERA and has allowed opponents to hit .328/.403/.557, yet he remains confident:
I'm feeling good and healthy and I feel like the mechanics side of my game has come around. ... The biggest thing for me, when I get in a little bit of trouble, is not going out there and letting it unfold. I've got to minimize the damage.
Lackey has also been struggling lately:
GS IP H BB K ERA AVG OBP SLG
0514-0629 9 68.2 48 13 54 1.44 .201 .247 .322
0705-0723 4 23.2 36 6 23 7.61 .346 .387 .577
A pitcher's record is of minimal value in judging his performance, but this is still neat: Jon Lester has begun his career with a 20-5 record and is the first Sox pitcher to be credited with 20 wins in his first 25 decisions -- Tex Hughson (1941-42) and Boo Ferriss (1945) each began 20-6.

Also: Rays/Blue Jays and Orioles/Yankees, both 7 PM

SoSH has threads dedicated to the team's possible interest in Mark Teixeira, Miguel Tejada, Doug Brocail, Jack Wilson, Geoff Geary, and Scott Eyre; news about shopping Manny is here.

Hey, Phil, good luck with the MBE tomorrow. I am impressed that you were here watching and threading. Guess taking these things in many states lowers the anxiety.

Amy said...

Or maybe you didn't need to take the MBE? Just the local part? Anyway, good luck.

Easily amused.

Sherrill's shitting the bed.

HEY SHITHEAD - I already posted that you guys beat the Yankees 7-3. So Let's fucking go.

phil said...

You have to take the MBE concurrently in RI and MA, unless you've been practicing for 5+ years.

B. Rhapsody - heh.
I was on a local radio quiz show recently.
One of my 10 R&R questions - "What famous astronomer is mentioned in Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"?"
I got that one. Lost to the host 8 - 6 but was good enough to win the prize- tickets to Rush. Gave them to my brother who's a big fan of theirs and he took his daughter - her 1st ever concert!
good times

My stupid fact o' the day........We are 6-7 without Lugo..This new look lineup hasn't looked so good ..Ellsbury has to go back to curve ball hitting school. He missed that last one by Lackey by 3 feet.......ugh..Does anyone else think Yook is wasted in that 2 hole. I know he won't go lefty-lefty but ....Huff's bomb of Mo turns into game winner.priceless...I saw that finger thing by Giambi...classless tattooed roid shooting moron...

Good man.

You know, one of these gorgeous and brilliant nieces has a lot in common with you. Of course she lives on the other side of the continent, but still. How old are you again?

L-girl said...

Too easy.

tickets to Rush

Canadian!

In case that niece comment came out of nowhere, that's why I missed most of the game, talking with her, a long overdue catch-up call.

Food was delicious, I left after the MBM walk but, sadly, I didn't miss anything.

I thought you were 24.

Anyways, here it is Wednesday morning and I still feel pretty bad about that loss last night. Well, the losing theme. One loss is just one loss. But four out of five losses, well, you know how that goes. Not sure what would feel worse, in theory - losing four out of five to two bad teams, or four out of five to New York and Los Angeles. Hmmm.

I guess that's what the ;) was for.
