G88: Red Sox 7, Yankees 0

Red Sox - 220 110 010 - 7 11 0
Yankees - 000 000 000 - 0 5 1
Lester: 9-5-0-2-8, 105.

And everyone in the lineup added a little bit:

Ellsbury: 2-run double in 2nd
Pedroia: single, run in 1st
Drew: single in 1st, double and run in 5th
Ramirez: single, walk, run
Lowell: RBI single in 1st, sac fly in 5th
Youkilis: double in 5th, single and run in 8th
Crisp: single and run in 2nd, single, SB and run in 4th, walk in 8th
Varitek: walk and run in 2nd, RBI single in 8th
Lugo: sac fly in 4th

Moss: stood in RF for 9th inning; did not make an error!

Also, Drew and Ococ made nice catches in the outfield. And the infield turned three double plays (543, 543, 643).

We are 3 GB.

They are 8 GB.

***

Jon Lester (3.48, 123 ERA+) / Andy Pettitte (3.98, 101 ERA+)

Jeff Goldberg, Courant:
The last time the Red Sox and Yankees played each other in the second half of the season with neither team in first place was 1997 and the Rays didn't even exist.
But the Red Sox (having lost five of their last six games) are now 3½ games out in second place, while the third-place Yankees are 7½ GB.

Lester makes his first career start at Yankee Stadium and only his second appearance ever against the Yankees. The first was on August 18, 2006: 3.2 IP, 8 H, 7 R; New York won the game 14-11).

Tampa Bay, 14-4 in their last 18 games, is off tonight.

How's the bunny?

Turns out there were two bunnies at our house while we were gone! Our dogsitter's bunny plus a foster bunny.

allan said...

sid for 8 and yeller for 1?

laura k said...

I had 201 but it changed to 202. Thank you moderation.

The bridge to Bot is being crossed!!!!

Although, perhaps it's the bridge to Timlin today. Kind of like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

laura k said...

Let's get some insurance for Yeller, eh?

Sarah Haendler said...

The bunnies are great! I did notice that you had visiting bunnies - that made me smile.

More pics here.

laura k said...

Sarah, I love the blog title! I meant to tell you that before.

Great pics. Who is that sweet Shepherd-y dog?

Pitching line for Swamp Bats relief pitcher Ryan Booen:
0+ IP, 4 H, 2 BB, currently charged with 4 runs, responsible for one more runner

Lester had better come back out in the 9th. Cy Young?

Sarah Haendler said...

Yeah Tek!

Patrick said...

A blog entirely about bunny relations. I really enjoyed that. Fun.

laura k said...

Don't adjust your sets!

allan said...

TEK = ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Haendler said...

Haha - thanks Laura, I'm afraid it's going to stop being funny to me one of these days, but it hasn't happened yet...

That's Sadie, she's Dave's brother's dog, and she comes to visit semi-regularly. She's the biggest, sweetest lapdog ever.

Joe Grav said...

OMG TEK

Sarah Haendler said...

Patrick, I promise it's not ALWAYS about the bunnies...

Just often.

Patrick said...

I had meant to write 'blog post'. Obviously it isn't all bunnies all the time.

laura k said...

The title will always be clever.

Sadie looks so sweet! Nice you have a visiting dog.

Wicked Lester with 97. 9th?

laura k said...

CG would be nice. And by CG I mean no Timlin.

Wild night here

In the home half of the 8th
NSR 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 6 --- 7 11 2
KEE 0 3 4 3 0 0 1 1 --- 12 18 2

ATT: 6,389 (WOW)

Patrick said...

at 97 pitches I hope they sit him and bring out Timlin. I want Lester fresh for the long run.

Joe says no one is up in the bullpen. Tito never listens to me.

Joe Grav said...

I'd love to see Lester finish it off! It's lovely to play easy competition isn't it? :D

Jere said...

yeah because with Timlin out the relief core shone like a beacon

laura k said...

At the rate he's pitching, one more inning isn't going to take him out of the long run (I think).

laura k said...

But of course I'll think anything if it means not seeing WF.

Sarah Haendler said...

Did I tell you how close we came to adopting a dog when we went to the shelter to get the bunnies (we went intending to consider one bunny - you see how that worked out)?

There was this terribly friendly year old shepherdesque dog (can you tell that's what Dave's family grew up with?) and we went out into the yard with him for a bit. Dave was in love, but we decided that it would be the very height of irresponsible to adopt a dog with our mad schedules. Near thing though.

Happy ending - we met the woman who did adopt him when we went back to get Juno after her surgery. She'd dreamed about him, playing in the park with him and calling him Jake. She said she couldn't stand it when she woke up, that she would just miss him if she didn't come back for him. So Jake and the bunnies are all in happy homes - just not all in ours!

laura k said...

One does not imply the other.

Jere said...

Lester's staying in.

Jere said...

Kim always refers to Sean Casey as "Bill Mueller." They're just so different to me, but I guess if you focus just on certain parts of the face, she kinda has a point.

laura k said...

Sarah, that's so great. It does sound like you and Dave are not in a position to have a dog (yet). It's great that you know what happened to the dog.

We've had some near-misses with dogs that I'll wonder about for the rest of my life. I can only hope they had happy endings.

I'll have to look at The Mayor with Pro in mind and see if I can pick up on it.

I LIKE THIS GAME

Sarah Haendler said...

I'm trying here, but I'm not getting the Pro = Mayor visual at all.

laura k said...

ME TOO

And for 9Casey:

3GB if we close this.

Jere said...

Sarah Haendler said...

Why, yes. Thanks.

Ok gang, gotta go put some pizzas together for dinner - Dave's been patiently waiting, but the dough's risen and it's time to bake 'em.

Good to see everyone again. I'd missed you all.

laura k said...

Homemade pizza! Enjoy. Great to have you back (and I'm happy to be back too!).

nixon33 said...

good thing for the yanks that the O's are losing in the 9th, or they'd be second to last.

The one on the plane which was later redone with Lithgow in the movie. And the one with the little fortune teller machine in Ridgeview, Ohio. (Shatner episodes of TZ)

OK, I hated missing this game. I will have to read through the thread and the box score.

BUT WE WON!

And Tek did something good??

WE won!

I was stuck in a rehearsal for this new Cuban Missile Crisis play I'm directing, and I usually sneak a peak at the score using my cell phone. I couldn't do it tonight. I was so afraid that I would follow another horrible series of events like last night, get disgusted and take it out on my cast. Finally, after I ended the rehearsal, I checked. 7-0. Christ, what a relief!! Lester is really turning into the ace he was supposed to be. If Papi comes back intact, and Wakefield can hold his groove, this is going to be one hell of a rotation second half. Just need that bullpen....

laura k said...

The one on the plane which was later redone with Lithgow in the movie.

That's probably the most famous TZ ep.

I don't remember liking the movie very much, but I saw it a long time ago. IIRC, they went for scary over strange.

Welcome to the game thread, Danzig!

Lester has been good and sometimes brilliant , But I never heard Ace and Lester in the same sentence.

Jack, how can you direct a play during baseball season , and have practice during the Red Sox- Yankee series, priorities Jack........

Casey: I know, I know. I go out of my way not to schedule my own shows during the season, but they're the only ones that make any moey for my company, and winter's a lousy time too.
And since 1995, I've refused to schedule anything in October...
