G14: Twins at Red Sox, PPD

8:10 PM: Postponed until 12:35 PM Wednesday/tomorrow.

7:05 PM: In a rain delay.

***

Scott Baker (13.50, 34 ERA+) / Tim Wakefield (3.00, 172 ERA+)

Last Wednesday, in his only start so far this season (he missed his first start with right shoulder stiffness), Baker lasted a mere four innings against Toronto, giving up four dongs and six runs.

Last July 7, Baker pitched seven shutout innings against the Red Sox, but the Twins lost that game 1-0.

Does Josh Beckett have a hidden agenda? ... Firebrand has info on Clay Buchholz's left hamstring injury. ... I am doing only so-so with the Reds in Jere's Run Total contest. ... The Stud Who Sells Real Estate?

YFSF notes that Tyler Kepner's main sources for his New York Times story on the many home runs hit at Yankee Stadium III are Greg Rybarczyk's hittracker and Steve Lombardi's waswatching, adding:
... as old media wonders how the hell to make money in the new media world, this story shows that blogs are doing yeoman's work and providing key analysis and news outside the bounds of typical news gathering methods. Though we who traffic these sites know this and therefore this assertion may sound uncontroversial, to see two such websites cited on the front page of the Times sports section as his sources by the Yankees' beat writer is a verification and validation of the strengths and speed of the minds (kudos to Greg and Steve) working solely within our own chosen medium.

SoSHers think we'll be delayed until 8:30/9:00. Is that the NESN consensus?

Rob said...

Oi. That radar does not look good at all.

Rob said...

I'm not watching NESN but they rarely speculate on length of delays.

Rob said...

Just saw on ESPN a high school pitcher - Don't know his name or where he went to school because the story was so quick. But he has not allowed a hit in four straight games. So far.

Jere said...

The heavy stuff is about to hit. It seems like they'll start an hour or two late and then get it in. That's just me. NESN not estimating.

They did say "Lugo will be playing at Pawtucket tonight," and I went right to pawsox.com and saw their game is already rained out.

Rob said...

lol at the weather.

This sucks. On a rainy day like today, nothing would be nicer than a baseball game.

I didn't realize saying, "executing pitches" was a Beckettism.

Jere said...

Eh, they execute everything in Texas.

bah. My meeting for tonight got rescheduled, emma's away in arizona with her mom. I was looking forward to some base-ed-ball.

the sky-borne being not smiling upon me.

Jere said...

TC said they'd let us know in a little bit when they plan on starting. I'm guessing 8:37.

Jere said...

Yanks about to start vs. Oakland. Bal and Tor also getting underway. Last-place TB in Seattle later.

Jere said...

mlb.tv having a problem with the one game I care about.

andy said...

What the fuck look is Girardi going for? He looks like the secret society chairman. Fitting.

I was thinking about the damn rays today. I really want the Royals to make something of themselves. They have sucked longer then the rays did. The rays also did not have an established organization yet when they began sucking. Maybe the fresh new approach of an expansion team turns into a good team sooner than a tired old system that refuses to change with the times. So I give it up to the rays of hope from the retirement villa because they sucked for less time then the Royals.

2-0 NY. And Yes used these old Red Sox logo on their ad for the weekend series with us.

Jere said...

Jeter hits his usual thing, only the second baseman catches it, foiling him--until he freakin drops it! They'll give him a hit on it, I'm quite certain.

Jere said...

which leads to another hit, 3-0, and now a Teixeira broken bat single makes it 4-0. Remember people, not a hitting attack, blunders and broken bats.

andy said...

Swisher seems to be the heart of this team. He was waving Matsui in as he himself was running home. He was clapping loudly at Matsui for hitting him over to third. He was just all excited. As opposed to Girardi who looks like he has a bad hangover.

andy said...

What will the ny media have to say about this? They may not be fooled by the shiny score and report on their luck.

andy said...

Sharon just made a good play.

Jere said...

I really hope the Yanks start to believe the Swisher hype and think he'll actually be key for them. The guy's hot, but so was Bubba Crosby that one time. And Kevin Maas.

Any news from FP?

Globe has been silent since 6:5x.

nick said...

postponed, according to mlb network just now.

Joe Grav said...

Not looking good. I just came in and it was pouring outside, I'm watching hockey now (Pittsburgh vs. Philly) while doing some homework... I'd be stunned if there's any baseball tonight.

allan said...

Postponed until 12:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Joe Grav said...

A one-day series!

allan said...

Gotta get my errands done early tomorrow.

andy said...

Double header I am assuming that means.

Jere said...

There goes BP for game 2, which I'm going to. Crap! I have Monster Seats, had it all planned out, for trying for a ball....

allan said...

T4: A's load bases with 0 out. Pettitte ready to poop the pullout (Thanks Jere!); gets a 3-6 FC that scores a run. 4-1 MFY

allan said...

HIT thru the hole, CI with a useless dive, 4-2, 2 outs.

allan said...

1st/2nd 2 outs for Rajai Davis.

allan said...

YOU CAN DOOOO EEEEET!

allan said...

SB? 1st/3rd

Jere said...

The guy at second stole, guy at first stayed. Didn't matter, as batter ended inning.

allan said...

OAK: 000 2
NYY: 040

Now I have to do work tonight, so I can take time off tomorrow to watch the game. I always miss Weds night games - can't miss two games in one day!

Benjamin said...

How disappointing.

What are we supposed to do without baseball?

Jere said...

Yanks-A's, dude.

Joe Grav said...

I have an exam tomorrow and am minus one awesome distraction.

allan said...

Right, A's/Chokers.

I am also preparing some shitty music to share on Thursday.

Jere said...

Actually, we just saw that Milk is on demand. But I'll have the game on mute on the laptop.

allan said...

We saw Milk right before the season started. One of our last movies.

Damon Dong. 5-2

andy said...

Ok the Nationals have a commercial that features Willie Harris and what he has done to the Mets. They fear his glove.

Jere said...

Gee, another HR to right field.

I think I'm one of the few people to have seen the earlier doc on Milk, have been waiting to see this one. Okay, popcorn's done....

Joe Grav said...

Just saw Milk a few weeks ago. Solid movie.

allan said...

Here's my Steven Wright impersonation:

"I wanted to see Milk, but I'm lactose intolerant."

?

andy said...

I saw milk awhile back. i also saw the docu on him.

Benjamin said...

Oh sure, when Oakland was playing us the first week, they weren't afraid to beat up on cripples. But now they just fold like a cheap tent.

Jere said...

Milk still alive, A's dead.

SoSock said...

SHIT!
Game postponed and no one to brag to. :)
MY LL team just won one of those games that you talk about all season. A game so good that it's fun even if you lose it, but oh so much sweeter when you win. They usually happen once or twice a year, and last year we never won one of them.
Guess I'll just tell myself!

I really like the Milk doc, haven't seen the Sean Penn movie. There's a great movie by Warren Sonbert that features footage he shot of the riots and funeral, I think it's called Nobles Oblidge.

Just got back from the new toilet........it's gigantic, and as Jere says "alot of yankee fans dressed as blue seats".......we were in section 420a upper deck and they were ,for 30 dollars a pop ,really good seats, right behind home plate , beers are $9 ,its just too big (that's what she said)........... exhausted, gnight.....

laura k said...

Milk is great. Penn is amazing as always.

laura k said...

I also saw the documentary. Lots of people did, it's a big rental.
