I made a comment to Theo, "Make the trade happen by itself, and I promise you during the season I'll negotiate". I'm not going to come here and be like, "OK, we'll see you at free agency and see if you outbid the other teams." We'll negotiate during the season. We're going to be fair. We won't be looking for record-breaking deals. We just want market value. We gave them our word that we were going to negotiate during the season in good faith. We're not going to go in there and ask for Albert Pujols' contract, something along those lines. ... That was one of their comments, what if [Pujols] gets this humongous deal and you want to be closer to him? I said, "Trust me. What the market is today might change by then, but we're going to negotiate based on what the market is today."Check out Gordon Edes's three-part look at Gonzalez and the recent trade negotiations: 1 and 2, with 3 available here tomorrow.)
Michael Silverman of the Herald also has a series of articles on Gonzalez: 1 and 2 and 3.

Sounds like someone you would want to do business with--not a prima donna, not a crybaby, not a poseur, not an egomaniac, not a fragile mannikin, not a tantrum-thrower, not a screw-you-buddy, not a back-stabber, not a card shark....
If he's a sterling character and can hit too, well then!
Awesome. Very classy dude.
He seems that way, although I'll be more comfortable once that deal is actually done. There's many a slip...
I think he's doing the right thing, except that's what Jason Bay said too
He's probably gonna get like a thousand tweets a day from the MFY telling him how much he's worth. With any luck he'll ignore them.
Lots of Jesus talk in part 3: his evangelical church, the supposed numerological significance of #28, etc.
"Thumper"?
Silverman: "He chose uniform No. 28 for the Red Sox, he said, because after Googling "God’s numerology," he discovered the number meant "God's divine courage and strength."
You sure he didn't look up 28 and it said "The last slowest Red Sox player, Doug Mirabelli, wore this number"?
