The ball when it bounced over the wall and against the square netting behind the bullpen, the ball fell in through one of those small squares and into the hands of a fan.

Made me chuckle.

Nighty night, Mariners. See you in 2008.

Had a meeting, popped out afterwards, saw score was 8-1. By the time I got home, was 8-5. Unbelievable turn-around. Now if just anybody, ANYBODY, can beat the MFY. We may have to win this thing the old-fashioned way, by winning...

Last night we were wondering what the lowest amount of comments in a game thread was.

No need to do that tonight. :)

If that was Upton, that F8 would have been a double off the wall.

I read that one, laura. Don't recall if I relayed the stories about my dad taking me to games when I was growing up. He never stood for the national anthem and I was always so embarrassed. When I was old enough to leave on my own he would conveniently run to the bathroom or get a beverage.

When I took Emma to her 1st game at Fenway this summer she noticed my sitting, but went along with it.

Just read about your sit down strike, L-girl, and though I guess this isn't the blog for discussing it, I certainly agree with much of what you say about the war, Bush, the military, etc. Is this why you moved to Canada?

Nice inning by Timmylyn
Amy - I agree it may be appropriate on 9-11, but it is rendered mute by the fact they now do it at every game, so it means nothing.
I usually do stand, but take advantage of the opp to head to a beer stand

thatdietcokegirl said...

interesting choice of words: renditions :/

why?

i won't post a link, but if anyone is interested, i wrote about my experience sitting down during GBA, it's linked on my blog under "a sit-down strike"

don't be shocked, i refer to myself as a yankees fan :)

i'll check it out.

ps. you do?!?!?!

ok :)

allan said...

no walk off tonight, i suppose.

I love how Joe Castiglione refuses to call LBJ the "Birthday Boy."

He calls him the "Birthday Guy."

laura k said...

nick, amy, thanks for reading.

amy, yes, we moved to canada for political reasons. not specifically bush - he was just the last (very large) straw

nick, i also saw my father not stand for the national anthem, altho he didn't go to baseball games. i was also embarrassed, and later proud.

i had a lot of problems with baseball-y friends (acquaintances) over the years with sitting down.

nick said...

wow. Lowell is the only one without an RBI, but also the only one without any LOB.

NESN doesn't generally show GBA (though I assume they don't because they can make money showing a commercial), but I guess today was different.

I think that there is a difference between remembering those who died and celebrating a senseless and immoral war. I feel much sympathy for the former.

tim said...

They just showed highlights of the game on SportsCenter...heh, Darren Dutchyshen or however you spell his name, sounds impressed.

allan said...

"rendition" is the act of a country sending someone to another country so he or she can be tortured. like the US has been doing a lot of in recent years.

absolutely. and if there's a game on 9/11, they have to do something to commemorate it. i get that.

but i lived through 9/11, it happened in my backyard. god blessing america has nothing to do with what happened that day.

Fenway only does it on Sundays and special days. Where you need more god or something.

I am going to have to read your blog, L-girl. I am quite intrigued now to learn the rest of your story about moving to Canada. I had thought it was for a job or some other more mundane reason.

SoSock said...

3 to go

We're thinking hard about a move ourselves. Not at all happy here right now. As if all the neo-con shit wasn't bad enough, now we are dealing with our country's infamous health-care system on a very personal basis.
It really sucks

Rob said...

I think if you want to have a special remembrance and commemoration for an event like 9/11, you should do something different; more special. In reality there isn't anything different about tonight, besides the moment of silence, than any other night. Let's remember this horrific event by doing the same thing we always do, only making it seem more important.

laura k said...

thanks amy :)

nothing mundane, we just couldn't take it anymore, decided to start over in a place much more like us

laura k said...

sosock, feel free to email me for info if you want.

americans moving to canada are at an all-time high right now. thousands of every year.

tim said...

Wouldn't surprise me if NESN aired this instead of GBA:

While the NESN Bobbledesks gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a man that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a broadcaster so fair,
As we raise our voices to plug some gel for hair.

God Bless Jerry Remy,
Rem-dog that I love.
Stand beside him, and guide him
Thru the night with a light from Granite City Electric.
From the Coke Bottle, to the Citgo Sign,
To the Globe, white with foam
God bless Jerry Remy, with useless shit to fill my home.

(I took way too long to type that up)

laura k said...

did you hear that? nesn just aired something remy said in between innings when it was still 8-1 - he predicted a 14-9 win :)

allan said...

yo dimmer -- get outs!

Having spent most of the day and numerous visits last six weeks doing all sort of tests I can understand your frustration.

tim said...

Oy, Gagne.

allan said...

wait -- the US has a health care system?

musta started after we left.

Amy said...

Well, I guess if I read the blog, I will find out if Canada has met those expectations. I am too tied to family, job, and life here to leave the US, but I certainly have never believed in "My Country---Love it or Leave it." I see lots that is wrong here, but I am still an American at heart.

Two down in the 9th. I will be off line tomorrow because of the holiday, so I hope you all can keep the good hitting going.

Not to mention the very weak dollar now.

Just comparing to the Canadian dollar, back in late 2002 the conversion was approaching $1.60 Canadian per $1 US Dollar.

Today, $1 US = $1.04 Canadian

Jere said...

"when it was still 8-1 "

I thought DO said he said it when it was 9-8... 8-1 would make more sense...

laura k said...

tim, your song is awesome :)

SoSock said...

Thanks L. I will.
I have been checking out your page on a regular basis. Enjoyed a lot of the past posts, altho I haven't had time to go thru too many of them yet.
BTW - this defensive indifference can be really annoying sometimes

gagne shouldn't have cut his hair.

ps.i'm having a cup of tea at 11pm and i don't care.

pps. laura, good article. was it published? yah, ppl are just at their mf WORST when they don't even realize when their fellow human beings are doing something valiant and acting on their human birthright of personal freedom. makes me wanna choke them when they actually defend the dippy status quo that has them in cages when they don't even know it. grr.

laura k said...

amy, i love canada. i'm very grateful for it. i'm incredibly relieved to be out of the us.

sosock, thank you :)

Rob said...

Woot!!!!

What a game!!

i love the little relationship the catcher and pitcher have lol ;)

awesome win tonight. i hope it carries all the way thru the weekend and we sweep those mfy!! ;))

night all! :)

the dollar exchange rate is irrelevant. you don't leave a country because of an exchange rate.

all rock and rollers who cut their hair starting sucking musically.

Amy, good yontiff, enjoy. I don't observe anymore, but I still say Shana Tova.

Well, no. But it's interesting to look at.

Alright! Good game, good game!

Highlights currently on Sportsnet's Highlight Program - just saw that ball that hit someone in the face, ouch!

And I just realize I had been incorrectly calling TSN buffyvision all night...I was too wrapped up in this game to notice/care. Ah well.

SoSock said...

FINALLY!
Who'd have thought a "come back from 7 down" win could actually get boring?
Ah well - let's keep it going for the New Year :)

Amy said...

Well, I will be reading "We move to Canada" now! Thanks so much for all the chat tonight, baseball and otherwise. Hopefully my food is cold, the Sox are hot, and maybe for the new year, the US will get smarter and more true to its supposed values of freedom, liberty, and respect for all.

laura k said...

tdcg, it was published at Common Dreams (commondreams.org), a lefty opinion/news site.

good thoughts you have there

thatdietcokegirl said...

lol. and britney spears' dead career two days earlier. an important day of remembrance for all of us.

l-girl, thx :)

Amy said...

L-girl, given your politics I should have known you were a MOT. :)

Shana tovah to all (even those who don't know what it means, which is "good year" in Hebrew or literally, "year good.")

nick said...

Shana Tova, Amy.

I probably won't be around much, but I'm not observant.

I think I actually read the article on common dreams when it was first published. Only when I reread it recently did I make the connection (well, I reread it because of the connection).

laura k said...

Who'd have thought a "come back from 7 down" win could actually get boring?

Too true!

Happy new year to the Jewish Joy Nation. I grew up hearing "next year in Jerusalem". Now I say to several online friends who are waiting for their applications to be approved, next year in Canada.

This musical moment brought to you by The Expos - Newmarket's finest ska band.

The tune (and band) I'm madly digging right now

[/shameless plug] - im all for it when it promotes good music that doesn't get recognition otherwise. don't really know of many musical tastes here but i thought i would share that.

The "respect" part would be a new one.

The "respect" part would be a new one.

I wasn't going to comment, but adopting the whole list would be fairly unprecedented.
