The Herald reports that Tim Wakefield threw in the bullpen this afternoon and "experienced no problems with his cranky back, which clears him to face the Orioles on Thursday".
It was also announced that Clay Buchholz will be moved to the bullpen. He has about 15 innings left before he hits the ceiling the organization set for him this season. Terry Francona: "It's been proven with young pitchers if you're increasing their [yearly] increments too much, you're putting them unnecessarily at risk."
If he is not getting another start or two, does this mean Buchholz will be on the post-season roster? Perhaps. The Sox may use him for an inning every few days to get him used to the relief role and then extend him slightly (if necessary) in October.
Devern Hansack is likely the final September call-up.
