Reminded that when the Yankees were busy sucking in the late 80s/early 90s, Crystal was wearing a Mets cap in his movies, I found this post from "xmulderx" via the Google:
I go back and watch some Mets games i do have on tape from the 80's all be it on betamax yikes. I am surprised that thing still functions. But there are atleast a couple of ocassions where robin williams and billy crystal are in the booth calling the game for a couple of innings. When asked who there favorite team was: Billy Crystal says the Mets are by far his favorite team, while Robin Williams says he is a big giants fan. I realize he is a yankee shill it seems in recent memory, but he is a phony yankees fan. There was a reason he wore a Mets cap in City Slickers aswell. He is a clear case of a bandwagon fan and a disgrace to both teams fanbase.

Before my getting mad about the "taking someone's job" aspect, this was the first thing that pissed me off. If you look at my blog when it was announced, that was all I mentioned: How the Yanks are allowing this because of Billy's "undying love for the Yankees." And the first two things that came to my mind were him in a Mets hat and him in a Sox hat.
So, basically, many of us are not only in better shape than Billy, but are better fans of our team than he is.
Sign redsock, Theo!
The powers that be really count on us to have short memories and not pay attention.
And most of the time, it works. Thank [something] for the internet.
Remember when the MFYs had a bandwagon? Ah, memories. Now they just have a rickshaw pulled by an aging occasional star of stage and screen.
Crystal's just like Spike Lee, that other frontrunner who shows up with either a Mets or Yankees hat, depending on who's hot at the moment.
And there's an equally great photo of Lee with Puff Daddy watching the Yankees lose Game 7 to the Sox.
I was glad that both Crystal and Lee where their IN PERSON to see it happen...
Lots of people like both the Yankees and the Mets. I don't understand it, but a lot of people find that perfectly legitimate.
The problem with Billy Crystal playing in a game isn't what team he supports, IMO. He could be the biggest Yankees fan in the world (as if such a thing could be measured) and it still would be inappropriate.
Knowing Crystal may be a bandwagon fan lessenes my enjoyment of his 2004 misery.
The life-long fans -- who knew to their very marrow that the Red Sox were going to lose in the end and brought along Curse and 1918 signs -- THOSE are the guys whose misery I hope never abates.
