Drew has walked, singled, and doubled twice.

Scott Baker (13.50, 34 ERA+) / Tim Wakefield (3.00, 172 ERA+)
Game 1 of a Day-Night Doubleheader!
Last Wednesday, in his only start so far this season (he missed his first start with right shoulder stiffness), Baker lasted a mere four innings against Toronto, giving up four dongs and six runs. Last July 7, Baker pitched seven shutout innings against the Red Sox, but the Twins lost that game 1-0.

Julio Lugo will rehab with Pawtucket at least until Sunday. Ian Browne speculates that Lugo could return to the lineup for Monday's game in Cleveland.
Daisuke Matsuzaka threw from 60 feet yesterday. Terry Francona said the issue "is not the strength on an exam, but the durability of the strength, which is kind of what can happen when you ramp up too soon". Dice will do the same routine today, then take Thursday off.
(The Washington Natinals?)
Dave Roberts had been scheduled to throw out the first pitch last night. He may be doing some studio work for NESN later this season.
Of all the places I went, this is the place where I spent the least amount of time, but, obviously, the magnitude of that stolen base and what was accomplished, the byproduct of that stolen base, obviously, has defined my career. That's a huge moment and a great honor. I get asked every day, "Do I get tired of hearing about the steal and reversing the curse?" Absolutely not.

Wakefield can stay another ten years if he keeps pitching like this.
Heh, I got 201. Wasn't even watching where we were.
I remember doing a radical realignment thing, the year interleague started. The Expos were still around, so no Nationals, Expos and Orioles were in the NE. I think I was using NE, SE, Central North, Central South, etc.
193. That's all I ask of Wake.
Thinking about the divisions like this comes from talking to my dad about the DH and having the DH be used throughout baseball.
It doesn't make sense to me to have the same teams in the AL and NL like normal, with both leagues using the DH and there being absolutely no difference in the rules for each league, but two teams in the same city being in different leagues, etc.
Wow, this is a good score to come home to.
Before realigning, let's disband like ten teams.
I think I was using NE, SE, Central North, Central South, etc. • Yeah. NE, SE, and... Central east? East central? West Central? SW and West.
Boourns.
Double Boourns.
Nice crowd at the new Toilet
Definitely, contraction first, then realignment. I wouldn't get rid of 10 teams, but maybe 4. Or 6.
Man, even the bleachers are half empty at the New Loo.
And obviously no DH!
Stretch time at 2:26
S-t-r-e-t-c-h.
What teams do you think would get the ax?
We're golden, I'm gonna go outside and see if my brain will revive itself. There's no way I'm writing an intense thinking exam like this.
Back in a bit!
central east and west? nah, north central and south central.
And ditch whoever has the shittiest fan base.
Once thing that's amazing is the NBA plays 82 games a season and manages to have every team play every other team both at home and away at least once in the season. With the leftover games being reserved for divisional and conference matchups.
central east and west? nah, north central and south central. • Reason I say east and west central is because that's how they look geographically. The two central divisions are clustered in the north anyway.
contract: marlins, rockies, d'bax, nationals.
Hits off the green!
Papi definitely finding his rhythm. Yay!
Papi Papi!! Just missed that one. It's so good to see him hitting again!
in the rain -- almost became a true red sox.
Jeter dong makes it 5-4 NY
Nationals aren't going anywhere with their new ballpark
Although to be fair, this is all quite hypothetical, since no teams will ever be contracted... ever.
jetes dong? damn, that IS a bandbox
To keep it all even you'd need to ax 6 teams. But I can't think of more than those four to get rid of.
If the NHL went through that lockout and period of complete oblivion in the US without contracting a single team, the MLB, NFL and NBA will NEVER contract.
No team is going anywhere! This is more than hypothetical, it's just thread talk. Daydreaming.
So throw in the Astros and the Brewers. There, that's six.
Oh okay. While we're daydreaming...
Contract the Yankees. :D
It does highlight different areas that do need to be changed, such as revenue sharing, etc. More regulations need to be in place for the how you can use money from revenue sharing. If I'm not mistaken, you don't have to use that money toward baseball operations.
Joe, NICE. I'm with ya!
Move 6 teams to the Albany, NY, area so there are lots of teams close enough for me to go see without cutting into the Sox' New England market :D
This definitely is more than hypothetical. Because we all know that almost all of the time MLB is going to do what makes the least sense.
Bases loaded, no one out, and we are five runs up already! Nice.
Yeah, actually the first thing I'd do is say "every team has the same amount of money to use."
Make it rain, thunder!
Joe, A said the same thing, he just didn't type it. :)
Ow. Didn't quite ring the bell but it was inner-thigh bouncing up off the dirt. Remember last Wake start Kottaras caught one under the cup.
Joe, are you graduating this year?
revenue sharing = bullshit
I think there's no conditions on it at all. Owners can just pocket the cash.
Jere, I like it. And the more money MLB makes as a whole, the more the players can make. As revenues go down, salaries go down.
i.e., common sense
It'll never happen
Joe, are you graduating this year?
No, thankfully. Haha. one more year
OHH Yeah.
Uh oh, Jere, someone will accuse you of being a socialist for saying all teams should have the same money. :)
there's a run
We'll take a walque!
2009 Red Sox looking more like the 2007 Red Sox! :>)
Walque. Cute.
I'd LOVE that accusation
I want a grand dong
HAHA Yes! Bring on "the Thing!"
I saw a shot of Wake talkin to this guy while he threw yesterday. And I thought, "Give him the wrong advice. The wrong advice!"
Nice job Lowell. 3 hits.
Our bats are smoking! Better late than never.
lowell needs a triple for the cycle!
mikey!
"bases reloaded again" -Don
"lowell needs a triple for the cycle!"
I think that would also give him a career cycle.
woo
First ribeye for Kottaras
I AM ENTERTAINED
Too bad that went into the stands.
Aw, boo, I want more runs first!!!!!!!!!
Nick Green!
And that'll do it. Pretty sure they'll call this one now.
The grounds crew should think about giving their men cleats.
RAIN DELAY. I wonder how I should play this re: going to game 2.
Well, there's the tarp. I bet we won't see tonight's game or even the rest of this game. What do you weather types see on those maps? Should I just go ahead and take my pre-night class nap now?
How much would it hurt driving up to Boston and having a rain-out and driving back tomorrow?
But you can't call this one unless you call the other one. I mean, YOu can't say, Okay, we can't play any more, and then start another game. It's either play the end of this one or both, or call this off AND move tonight's to tomorrow, I think.
damn, that's all the baseball i'll have today. but it was fun! see you all... whenever.
"okay all of morillo's runners have scored, bring out the tarp."
I am driving up Friday, Saturday, Sunday. If I go today, and that game goes to tomorrow, that'll be five days in a row.
Shave, TC. Jesus Christ/
There's a pocket of clearing between Quincy and Fall River moving north but there's a green blob over Providence that looks like it will rotate north over Boston. If they were smart they'd call the game now, clear the park and get ready for game 2. Although looking at the radar it's raining as far south as near Atlantic City and is rotating up toward Boston.
So we'll see.
TC can't shave, or charity loses.
"Our bats are smoking! Better late than never."
April is late???
NESN showing a Bruins preview from Montreal and the little graphic at the bottom of the screen showed BAL 1, BOS 10.
Late? It's game 14. And we've been hitting for awhile now.
Shave, TC. Jesus Christ/Better root against the Bruins then.
Jere, how long does it take you?
I guess I couldn't see tonight's game anyway...I don't have a cable box to get NESNplus.
This would work out perfectly. Get to go to the gym without missing any baseball here before picking the Padre up from work. I mean, they have NESN at the gym but I'm not sure if I want to watch the Red Sox there.
Okay, as long as it is not a fashion choice.
Looks horrible. Like he just woke up from a three-day bender and staggered on set.
Well, it is late for April. Gee, guys, it's JUST an expression!
And Allan, I agree about TC's beard. And I generally like beards.
Oh, and Ish, I didn't mean, like, maybe I won't go, I just meant how long do I wait, considering traffic, rain, people leaving game 1, etc. But I would prefer they just tell me early enough where I wouldn't have to do a meaningless drive with four more drives in a row coming up.
I don't have a cable box to get NESNplus.Amy, I'm pretty sure if you can watch NESN you can see NESNPlus. They have a full lineup on NESN.com that shows the channels.
I agree, Jere. Especially if they don't open gates on time, etc. And not having BP. And then maybe a delay. Nothing like getting up there and having absolutely nothing to do for a few hours too.
Ish, the NESN website seems to suggest that you cannot get NESNplus without a cable box. We have cable, but no box (just directly into the TV).
" Jere, how long does it take you?"
That's the thing. With shitty 93, if you go at like 2:00, you make it in an hour or less. If you go at 4:00, it might take 2 hours, because they take a lane away from NB and move it to SB, and that's without there being another game going on.
mmm, Phởyup, went out for a walk, ended up walking to the restaurant across the road and buying food.
oh look, the silly blogger anti-paragraph shit strikes again.
Amy, we have basic cable here too. Just cable into the TV. NESN is on 27 for us and NESN Plus is on 22.
Good luck, Jere. I hope there is a game for your sake.
So long, all. Going to get some rest before teaching.
The cable box issue is if you have Comcast, I guess in the Boston area, and cannot see channel 81. But you're out in western MA right?
A's tied it in the 6th.
Ish, FYI: From the NESN page, and we do use Comcast:
*NESNplus may require a cable box
If you watch NESN on Comcast but can’t see NESNplus channel 81, it may be because you need a cable box on your television. A cable box is available for as low as $1.95 per month. Visit your local Comcast service center (click here to find store hours and nearest location) to pick one up. For answers to additional questions, please call 1-800-COMCAST or chat live online here with a representativ
Bottom line---I don't get anything on channel 81, but will check later if there is a game and if I get home in time. But it seems like this is a Comcast situation and we use Comcast.
Amy, gotcha. So you may or may not get NESN Plus. lol at Comcast.
Hopefully it'll work for you tonight.
Went out to have tea, but it started sprinkling.
Also saw Eck and Mrs. Eck in a charity sock promo thing and his hair was normal. Not poofy or with the '70s wings on the sides. Looked nice.
A tiny, short-lived sprinkle moving through the GTA.
7-5 Yanks
Anyone hear of a show called RBI Radio on NowLive.com?
I'm going to be on tomorrow night "debating" a Yankee blogger. You can sign up and chat/ask questions during the show (I think).
I'm off to the gym, then to pick up the padre. I'll be tuned into the Bruins game tonight with the Red Sox on the little TV in the living room. Enjoy the game if they get it in!
never heard of it
lol at the Yankees, by the way. Talking about who to use in the bullpen to get to "Bruney in the 8th."
That was some goodass Pho.
How long is the drive, Jere?
I've been assured it'll be a "civil" debate. I've no patience for the usual sports radio shit.
The Yankee guy is from river Ave. Blues, which looks like an intelligent blog.
Tim, the non-traffic drive is right around an hour or a little less.
tying runs on, no out for Oakland
CC up to 110 pitches, second and third one out. 7-5 NY.
Ahh, thats like my drive to T.O....definitely not something you want to do if you're unsure of the game...rain will amplify the traffic congestion too.
7-6 on an RBI groundout by Giambi. Yay Jason Giambi!
TIE GAME!
Single ties it! I love it, Sabathia gives up 7 runs.
HGH, Baby!!!!
Custy's goin deep tonight!
Every NY starter has a hit, first 4 with 2 hits.
Hooray for three-hour Administrative Professionals Day luncheons.
Any word on whether they'll finish this game?
See ya Birdbathia! Here comes the cokehead.
7-7, 7th inning stretch, Yanks with 7 more hits than A's. CC taking a 7 minute shower before his 7-course dinner.
And after this season, NYY fans another 7 years of CC.
Radar looks terrible, green and yellow everywhere around Mass. I'd say they call this one shortly, especially given the score, and postpone tonights until tomorrow - not like MIN is going cross-country, they're only flying to Cleveland for a Friday night game. There's less rain drops on the icon for tomorrow on Yahoo anyway.
Given his...erm, carriage...I speculate CC needs a little bit more than 7 minutes in the shower. Maybe 7 hours, to make sure he cleans under all the rolls and flops.
I feel like they can just hold out all night on this game. If you have even an hour window at any point tonight, use it to finish this one, and play tonight's tomorrow.
Is Russ Springer some sort of spaniel? Absence of opposable thumbs would explain his poor pitching.
What I'm saying is, imagine if it was only 2-1---the Twins would be pissed if you said, "let's just call this now," with 9 hours left in the day. And they'd be especially pissed if it was 2-1 and they said, we'll just end this now so we can get tonight's in. There's an integrity issue there. You can't treat a blow-out differently in these cases.
Sucks balls for the fans though, Jere. I sure as shit wouldn't sit around for 4 hours, hell even 1 hour, waiting for them to play out the last inning and a half of a 10-1 game.
well you can't play till the rain stops, if those fans wanna see the end of the game they know that. I mean, I'm in a shaky spot here myself holding game 2 tix.
loaded, no out for NY
The spaniel better demand a ransom payment in the form of a DP.
better be a 1-2-3 DP, too
Two down.
got a popup after the K. Can they get this last out?
Nevermind. Updating that previous comment, the spaniel's gardener better plant a DP.
If they call the game, I suppose that means Wake has two straight complete games.
haha Jeter pops out. The empty seats must be PISSED
Attaboy, Jeter.
Ol' calm eyes at it again!
Only one more year on Jeter's contract (2010). They haven't won a championship since they gave him it.
Blue skies in Providence
Rish saying the rain and wind have picked up in intensity in Boston, though.
TC with no new info just now. Beard still intact, though.
Bobby Crosby being Bubba Crosby.
TC playoff beard? I must've missed something.
Oh well, back to prepping for this open book exam tonight...as much as I can...later JoS! Go As (for today)!
David Crosby B'ing Crosby
TC started a beard for some Bruins charity thing which I guess all the Bruins people are doing. However, it started coming in so horrible, he shaved it down to a goatee.
You can't even see the beard on his photos.
The gameday video for Jeter's double is literally titled "Jeter's clutch RBI double". In the bottom of the sixth.
Still tied going into the top of the 9th.
we go to the ninth at the NuLu
I prefer "Public Toilet".
My personal favorite, which I invented, is Eau de Toilette. But I'm trying out New Loo today.
If you look at the two Toilets side by side, it'd be Lulu.
Game one called. So.... I was wrong, you can just call game one and play game two--then again, it's supposed to rain more tonight.
So...I guess....I'll just head up there now....look for me on the Monster.
HiDP Matsui.
MelK. Oakland sends it into extra innings.
A momentous day. Got home from the gym, came inside and noticed our new cat on my bed for the first time ever. :>) Coconut has been here for close to three months and I've been looking forward to this day.
Still tied after ten.
I hope you didn't consummate the occasion.
Sweeney leadoff single.
