G6: Angels 5, Red Sox 4

Red Sox - 020 001 001 - 4 9 0
Angels - 003 010 01x - 5 10 2
Ian Browne has a good wrap-up.

***

Josh Beckett (1.29, 376 ERA+) / Dustin Moseley (4.50, 103 ERA+)

Jason Bay says he's surprised at how well he is hitting:
I think I probably doubled my April stats from every other April. I usually stink for whatever reason. Maybe it was the longer Spring Training [this year], but once again, we're only five games in. I wouldn't write my ticket to the April Hall of Fame just yet. It's been nice to get off to a good start. Historically, it hasn't been that good for me.
He's done better in March/April than he thinks he has:
       PA HR AVG OBP SLG
2005 97 2 .292 .351 .472
2006 110 5 .277 .445 .494
2007 105 4 .280 .362 .495
2008 117 6 .253 .385 .453
2009 20 2 .333 .500 .933
Total .277 .392 .496

Career .282 .376 .518
More power in a small sample -- 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple, 2 home runs -- but not much difference at all. I assume that his numbers for the entire month will be pretty much in line with his career norms, which are good.

Teixeira sitting again in KC.

Mets getting no-hit through five (and the TBS announcer is going the "say it out loud" route).

Jere said...

Mets get a hit.

Jere said...

Guy on third, two outs, two strikes in the to of the 1st, and the stupid Royals pitcher throws a wild pitch. 1-0 Yanks.

allan said...

Cool story, so he'll see openings 1 and 3, but did he go to the opening of the 2nd Yankee Stadium in 1976?

allan said...

The Jere Jinx!

Jere said...

I was just reading that story! Terrible job by them for not asking him about '76.

Eh, the thousands of empty seats in Florida on a sunny spring Sunday didn't deserve to see a no-hitter anyway.

allan said...

That's because anyone who does not believe the same stadium was used from 1923-2008 is a biased Red Sox fan.

Jere said...

Joba pitching a NO-HITTER thru 1

Jere said...

Wow, bbbccc for Cano. Never took it off his shoulder.

Today looks like a rare chance for me to listen to a game at work. Thank you, Easter! Who says I have no use for religion.

Kilgore on yesterday's game: "Though it was Game 5 of 162, manager Terry Francona said it felt like a playoff game."

Playoff Assassin!

allan said...

Andy's pics from the series. He's excited about his seats today. They once belonged to Rod Carew.

"Grey sweatshirt with the fourth of july sox hat. We are right behind the gap in the dugout structure behind home."

Jere said...

I don't see Andy wearing a 4th of July Sox hat. Maybe I misread. (Him, not the statement.)

Jere said...

I've got mlb.tv on for 1st time this reg. season. Does it come without graphics on screen, or do the Royals just not do that?

Jere said...

Dollar Dong Day! (Buck HR). Royals lead, 1-1.

allan said...

Sometimes the feed has nothing. I remember getting NESN a couple of years ago and it was blank.

allan said...

They also would not go to TC/the studio. It would just be a shot of the field and silence. Then Don would come in and say "Thanks ...."

allan said...

Andy sent in a pic of his wife (looks more like a daughter, is he young?), but I don't think I'm supposed to post it.

Well, he said it was his wife, it could be some random woman in a Sox hat and red shirt he asked to pose.

I asked for one of him.

Jere said...

COco triple!

This is great--it's just the game, no constant score/count bar, and I don't think any graphics. But replays are there. And it looks beautiful. I think it's in mos-def.

laura k said...

Andy and Mrs Andy are young.

Jere said...

tell andy to go right behind the plate, front row. NESN is showing BP.

laura k said...

Gameday Audio looks improved this year, too. I don't have sound yet, but the options are better. There are pop-ups for box score, line score, tracker, highlights.

Now to see if the sound will work at 3:30.

allan said...

There are pop-ups for box score, line score, tracker, highlights.

It's on GDGD too. I think it's extra stuff that will go away on the 19th or so unless you pay.

allan said...

Passed the word along to Andy.

allan said...

Blue Jays, threatening to run away with the East, trail the Spiders 5-1 in the 6th.

laura k said...

Sound. Good.

Jere said...

On Mlb.tv, there's no linescore in the boxscore feature. And I have no graphics, so that kinda stinks.

laura k said...

I think it's extra stuff that will go away on the 19th or so unless you pay.

I do pay. There's no option to pay extra on the audio.

But if it goes away, it's no big deal.

laura k said...

On Mlb.tv, there's no linescore in the boxscore feature.

They call linescore "summary".

allan said...

I got a MLBTV split screen -- the Sox game waiting to start on the left and the MFY/KC on the right.

Never had that before -- Fuckin' A!

laura k said...

I have to remember not to thread too much. The audio is way behind, threading ruins it.

laura k said...

Jason Bay on the radio pre-game.

Jere said...

Summary shows me each batter each inning, which I could form a linescore from, but I don't see an actual linescore.

allan said...

Andy: "Did anyone see me? There are 4 white people mom and daughter with sizeable breasts. Blondes. I am wearing a light grey shirt with my fourth of july hat"

allan said...

Hmmmm, the "sizeable breasts" might work against anyone bothering to look for Andy.

Jere said...

That space behind home between the dugouts is the exact spot they showed before, but only the front row was visible. Hopefully they show that shot again.

allan said...

Raining in KC. Dirt being put on mound.

laura k said...

Maybe summary shows me the same thing. I don't know yet. It looks like it would be a linescore, but from what you say, probably won't e.

Jere said...

Grounder through TWO GUYS' LEGS! And the Royals lead. And the guy gets a hit for it!

allan said...

Joba looks like a totally retarded tool with that flat brim cap.

allan said...

Jays get 3 in the 6th, trail 5-4.

Jere said...

3-1 KC. Joba sad. It's like he's pitching with an open Crown Royal bottle in the passenger's mound.

allan said...

Can't pitch with bugs.
Can't pitch in rain.
Can't pitch ....

Amy said...

You guys see a photo of Andy from that link? I only see pictures of the field.

laura k said...

Does anyone look good in those flat brim caps?

allan said...

Nice replay before the break. Jeter dives to his right and the ball (naturally) goes through. Looked like he flopped down on the ground to get a better look at it rolling by.

Jere said...

Yeah these wet bugs falling from the sky seem to only be affecting the Yanks. They just have bad luck with this stuff.

allan said...

Amy: No. Only a few shots from his seats. Then there is the post I did, but again, no Andy.

Flat brim: No. They just look silly.

allan said...

They just have bad luck with this stuff.

That's called a curse.

Amy said...

OK, I thought Laura's comment about them being young was a response to a photo that was posted.

Game time! First game I have gotten to see the beginning of!

allan said...

Don's head is big.

allan said...

No work at the moment, but I know it's coming.....

Jere said...

That reminds me, I heard a radio ad for MLBNetwork, and it followed an "all the ____s" formula. (All the squeeze plays, all the line drives, etc.) You know what the FIRST one was?

"All the curses."

laura k said...

Allan: Andy sent in a pic of his wife (looks more like a daughter, is he young?), but I don't think I'm supposed to post it.

Laura: They are young.

laura k said...

No work today! I hope you have none, too.

"All the curses."

*sigh*

allan said...

Andy: "Well whats important is that i am here and i am cumming every 5 minutes or so. I just saw rocco right next to me. Jacoby is pretty fly for a part navajo guy. I can see both dugouts. My phone number is 951-691-7668 if anyone wants to text questions. I know i am making more of this then it is but i am soooo fucking horny right now."

Jere said...

I see Andy. (from 500 ft away)

laura k said...

I am texting him now

allan said...

work.

shit.

laura k said...

Geez, it never fails!

allan said...

and it's a pile.

a rerun of the pile i did last night

allan said...

i'll keep don in my ear.

Amy said...

Thanks for the explanation, Laura. I really need to get my threading skills sharpened. I needed a spring training also.

laura k said...

Amazing. There is no one at my workplace today but us chickens. It's so nice and quiet. Like the old days, when I got paid to do nothing...

Jere said...

wait, is his wife in red?

Jere said...

I think he's on on every pitch! But the score bar covers his face! He's taking a picture! If that's him, tell him to crouch down, make his head lower!

Jere said...

or just move down one row!

Jere said...

He's taking pics, I'm pretty sure I'm watching him.

Jere said...

now he's reading a text! Is this him?

laura k said...

Andy's taking video of every RS AB, will post it later. I asked if his wife is in red.

laura k said...

He says send any q's. He took a pic of LBJ's butt for me.

allan said...

She has a red shirt with a round 58sticker or something in the top left corner, above where you'd put your hand over your heart. White shorts. B cap, with no hair sticking out.

allan said...

He took a pic of LBJ's butt for me.

So long, Leela.

laura k said...

Andy's wife is in red, but she is small. He says there's a large woman in front of him.

(Probably a lot of ppl there wearing Red!)

laura k said...

Mrs Andy has a white b on a blue cap

laura k said...

Andy is right behind the radar gun mounted on the fence

Pepe Lepew said...

Hey, just as a quick aside, how about those Boston U. Terriers last night?
That was *amazing*!
That was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

laura k said...

He took a pic of LBJ's butt for me.

So long, Leela.

LOL

No, I'm Leela. I'm not my boy's butt.

laura k said...

Jere, no linescore here either. Must all be the same options.

allan said...

take it easy with the celebrations there, chone.

Amy said...

Shit.

I can't see Andy or anyone else clearly. Jere must have a bigger and better TV. No HDTV here.

laura k said...

I can't see anyone. Radio is like that.

Rob said...

Hey, just as a quick aside, how about those Boston U. Terriers last night?

Oh yeah. I didn't pay too much attention until the last five minutes of the game (I forgot it was on!) but I am glad I tuned in when I did. That was incredible. I knew there was a chance they could do it because Miami wasn't clearing the puck out of the zone very much and Boston was getting shot after shot after shot off.

tim said...

Just popping in between family dinners to say happy easter JoS! Gonna watch an inning or two then go to the other grandparents for dinner.

Amy said...

And that is the beauty of radio. It's all in your head.

Rob said...

Bay plugging the gap. Love it.

Amy said...

Nice play! (I could see that.)

allan said...

oh man that play yesterday hit the wall like 2-3 times!!!!!!!!!!!

Amy said...

Hi Ish! Hi Tim! Happy Easter!

laura k said...

If I weren't listening to a RS game, I wouldn't have even known about that hockey comeback. College hockey is not exactly on my radar. It sounded incredible.

laura k said...

Now I could use some video!

Amy said...

Hmm, what was that all about? UH OH

Rob said...

I love Beckett.

Pepe Lepew said...

I'm not sure I've *ever* seen pulling the goalie two goals down actually work. At least it was so long ago, I can't remember.
Hokay, back to baseball, people are gonna get mad.

allan said...

bullpen jogging in is always hilarious

laura k said...

Abreu asked for time - Beckett threw up and in anyway?

Rob said...

Beckett held the ball for so long that when he went into his delivery time was called and instead of lobbing the ball or throwing to the plate he threw the ball at Abreu's head.

allan said...

AtC, anyone?

laura k said...

Pepe, no one will get mad, you just might get ignored. :)

"bullpen jogging in is always hilarious"

Come on people, fill us radio listeners in!!!

tim said...

Oooo good time to watch.

Amy said...

So are we to assume that was intentional? Beckett the mad mad?

allan said...

Andy posted a pic of himself to that link above.

laura k said...

Here we go again?

laura k said...

DO'B says ump called time too late?

Jere said...

There's a conspiracy to not show Andy. Now his head is cut off by the top of the screen. I watched his torso's reaction to the pitch in question on this fight.

Amy said...

Big mon on the field. Hard to tell exactly what is happening.

tim said...

Ohhhhh, Humphrey Bogar is our 1B coach.

laura k said...

Andy is here

tim said...

Torii Tossedd.

allan said...

Hunter tossed?

Lots of milling about. Scoiscia wants JB ejected.

Amy said...

mob
I have my laptop back and now readjusting to its keyboard.

Torii Hunter ejected.

Anonymous said...

Hunter said something objectionable..

allan said...

2 or 3 angels are trying to get to beckett, speier one of them. they wanta fight.

hunter ejected.

angels called time late a couple of times yesterday too.

Amy said...

Angels retreating to dugout now.

Rob said...

Torii's gone... Sociscia's gone too I think.

laura k said...

Radio guys says Sciosia has to be ejected

Jere said...

Here's Andy. His head is a big zero. Now they've zoomed out so his head is above the bar, BUT, he's off screen for me. Maybe on the mlbtv feed later we can get screenshots, maybe he's on screen in that.

allan said...

Next close pitch from a Sox pitcher may light the LAA powder keg!!

laura k said...

Angels didn't call time late here, sounds like it was the ump

Jere said...

Scoscia, what do you want, a warning? They ain't gonna throw him out.

Anonymous said...

If Beckett is gone who comes in, Masterson?

laura k said...

Sciosia still there I guess. Or getting his money worth?

Amy said...

You think the Angels are on the edge? Scioscia wants Beckett out, but not going to happen from what I am reading on body language of the ump.

Rob said...

It highlights the recurring problem of the umpires granting time too late, when a pitcher goes into his motion. Happened to Lester his last start.

allan said...

ANDY

tim said...

Speier Fieier'd up

allan said...

but but but one of our pitchers died .... eject beckett.

Rob said...

Looks like Speier just yelled out "Fuck you, Josh!"

Amy said...

Speier still screaming at Beckett and pointing.

Jere said...

Scoscia Moscia-ning toward the ump?

laura k said...

I linked to the Andy pic already.

allan said...

looked like beckett had already let ball go when ump really stepped out

laura k said...

Well, that was fun.

Rob said...

Came to a debate and a baseball game broke out.

tim said...

Damn, I wanted to see Josh plunk him there.

laura k said...

"looked like beckett had already let ball go when ump really stepped out"

Right, ump called it too late.

Amy said...

Back to baseball, finally.

laura k said...

One time last season I said a brawl was fun and I got accused of subverting world peace :)

Jere said...

Royals error brings home go-ahead run for Yanks.

Rob said...

I would have loved to have seen Beckett plunk him too. But I'd rather see him stay in the game. Who would you have pitch the rest of the game.

tim said...

Vlad paying homage to the masters with that swing.

Jere said...

So Andy is officially the gray shirt directly above the Red Sox' score. Can anyone see his face?

laura k said...

Ish, classic emotion vs reason there. :)

Rob said...

This wasn't a brawl... I think they're fun though. To a point. But we've already gone over this last season.

Then again, this is coming from someone who watched hockey all winter and is gearing up for the playoffs.

allan said...

remy is full of shit

Amy said...

Remy certainly siding with Abreu on the Beckett incident.

Three outs.

laura k said...

Andy says he got the whole thing on video

tim said...

Place yer bets! Who are the angels gonna plunk???

Rob said...

Youk gets plunked.

allan said...

I hope they go after FY!

tim said...

Ish, classic emotion vs reason there. :)

It's april - reason doesn't come in til about June for me.

laura k said...

Well of course only to a point. It's not like I want to see players beat each other to pulps. Thing is, that never happens.

Amy said...

I don't like brawls. Just not my thing to see people hitting each other.

Jere, I am lucky I can see the faces of the batters. Forget about seeing the faces in the crowd!

tim said...

I hope they go after FY!

Not if they value their ankles being bite-free.

laura k said...

FY would be the funnest choice.

laura k said...

"Just not my thing to see people hitting each other."

Oh yeah. Like it's mine.

tim said...

I agree that Yook gets plunked and doesn't do anything, warnings issued...one of them probably.

What the fuck is Sosha doing?

allan said...

get the fuck off the field crybaby

Anonymous said...

WTF??

Amy said...

Heh, you said you like a brawl, not me!

Scioscia really looking for a brawl, it seems.

Rob said...

Well of course only to a point. It's not like I want to see players beat each other to pulps. Thing is, that never happens.

I've seen a couple guys bloodied... bloody nose, that sort of thing.

I think Joe West is not ejecting Scocsia for his own amusement at this point.

laura k said...

Oh boy, sounds like Sosha's gotta be outta there.

(Good spelling Tim, I like that. Much easier.)

tim said...

you know, there's a line. is this moron going to come out and whine about every ball and strike call?

tim said...

guess not - he's gone.

allan said...

ANDY: Im gonna peek between the people in front of me. She is blond and white with a brown tank top

Rob said...

But you're right, L. Finishing my thought... (See I TOLD you I saw him get ejected in the scrum!) They usually don't actually beat each other up.

laura k said...

Whining about balls/strikes, all it takes is one.

Anonymous said...

10 Ron Roenicke now managing for LAA.

tim said...

Maybe he's having a couple rye and cokes to settle himself. Or rile himself, depending on how you look at it.

laura k said...

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!

laura k said...

sweaty dong!

Amy said...

Youk showed them!

tim said...

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

FIRST SWEATY DONG OF 09

Jere said...

I wonder if ANdy knows how close to Boras he is. At least I think that's him in the orange.

OOOhhh!!! Yoooook! uuuuhhhhhlllll

SoSock said...

Damn - on 2 counts.
1st - MLBTV free preview is gone - WAHH!
2nd - my damn 1 hour project at the field has turned into 2 1/2 already and I had to come back for some stuff from my shop.

I so want to say screw it and stay here. Oh well, I should be back in about 3 innings or so.

Zenslinger said...

Haha, patience pays off.

laura k said...

B2B DONGS!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Like Larry Craig, I can't get enough of sweaty dongs.

Jere said...

drew in a row!

laura k said...

What, is the radio ahead of TV now?

Amy said...

Well, that'll teach them to try and throw out Beckett.

Rob said...

SWEAT-POWERED... And a DJ DONG!

tim said...

DJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

allan said...

suck on them dongs, sosha.

laura k said...

Drew in a row, nice. You're auditioning for Jon Sterling's job?

/duck

Zenslinger said...

I wonder if ANdy knows how close to Boras he is. At least I think that's him in the orange.

Call him and ask. Tell him Boras has tits.

Jere said...

well he's screwed now because if he leans down, he's behind the bar, leans up, offscreen. I saw him filming the dong there. His torso anyway.

Rob said...

I've got family here for the duration of the afternoon. Enjoy the game everyone!

Amy said...

Laura, you do seem to be a beat ahead of us.

laura k said...

What do you want me to ask Andy about Boras?

tim said...

Holy fuck Remy - you're on to something - the gray HOME RUN uniforms! That give them super special HOME RUN power!

laura k said...

How weird. Last season at work I had to not refresh the thread very often, because everyone else was so far ahead of Gameday audio. Like whole batters ahead.

Benjamin said...

Gotta hit the road and won't get there until this is over, but I'm loving this game so far.

tim said...

There you go Sosha, a shitty call in your favor. Now we're even for the whole whipping the ball at chubby's head.

Amy said...

It is odd how the timing can differ. We once were switching between radio stations, both carrying the Sox game, both part of the "Sox Radio Network" (we were getting bad reception on both and trying to decide which was better), and the timing was off even between the two radio broadcasts.

tim said...

Alright, good show. This is heating up to be a good thread but gotta go spend time with the extended fam. Good threadings all!

tim said...

Just waiting for my dad before we leave. HAHAHAHAHA take that Sosha! Maybe since he's ejected he can follow along with us on a laptop in the clubhouse.

laura k said...

What did I miss? (Besides saying goodbye to various threaders.) I had to go get tea.

laura k said...

Allan, Joe Castig agrees about bullpen running in looking silly.
