The Red Sox traded a PTBNL to Pittsburgh for the outfielder who played in 18 games with Boston in 2008-09, including one stint on the mound. JVE will wear #44.
To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Santo Luis was designated for assignment. The team also optioned Josh Reddick to Pawtucket.
