Yankees - 020 300 200 - 7 12 1After retiring the first five batters on 13 pitches, Beckett gave up solo dongs to Dumbo and Granderson -- and then singles to Swisher and Gardner. CI tangibly grounded out to end the second.
Red Sox - 010 013 31x - 9 10 0
Youkilis doubled to start the second and Beltre brought him in with a one-out sac fly to deep center.
The bottom of the order got to Beckett in the fourth. Cano doubled and two outs later, Swisher walked. Then Gardner and Jeter singled -- and pulled somewhat of a surprise double steal. Beckett couldn't get the third out in the fifth and was pulled with two men on: 4.2-8-5-3-1, 94/54.
Two-out singles -- all crisp line drives -- by Drew, Cameron, and Scutaro brought in a fifth-inning run. An error moved the runners up, but Ellsbury struck out looking with runners at second and third. CC lost his command in the sixth. FY walked, Victor doubled into the left field corner, and Yook smoked a triple over Swisher's head into the right field corner. With one out, Beltre's single to Cano's right tied the game at 5-5. But New York came right back in the seventh. Ramirez put two guys on and Okajima let them come around to score.
The Sox took the lead after the stretch. Scutaro singled off Park and Pedroia homered to left. When Yook doubled, Marte came in and wild pitched him to third. Then Dumbo's passedballa (!!) gave Boston its first lead of the night.
In the eighth, Bard allowed a two-out walk, but retired Teixeira on an FC. In the home half against Joba, Cameron singled with one out and Scutaro walked. With two outs, Pedroia singled to right to make it 9-7.
In the ninth, Papelbon retired Slappy and Cano, then allowed a two-out single to Dumbo. He got Granderson to ground to third for the final out.
Beckett, RamRam and maybe Jeemer were shaky, and there were no real fielding gems. Damn shame we can't hit/score.CC Sabathia / Josh Beckett

Hey! Somebody flipped the switch a little early. Hate those premature incidents, ya know.....
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, baseball season! t-minus 8 hours roughly.
winstons first season - let the birth of this little puppy and entrance into our lives be a hex on the MFY for years to come!
Let the 6 AD baseball season begin! (6th year of our lord*)
*Dave Roberts?
Curse of the Winston!
Jere, love the sacrilege, very appropriate to the day.
MLB.com's new scoreboard page looks like absolute shit.
Let's get underway!
Go Sox Go!
NYDN's Bill Madden picks Red Sox (96-66) to win East over Yankees (93-69) and Rays (88-74).
NYDN has 28 reasons why the Yankees will win their 28th title this year. This first one?
1. They're still the Yankees.
Well, that convinces me! But maybe you are not swayed so easily:
2. Derek Jeter is in his contract year.
[So he's older. And?]
5. Roy Halladay is eating cheesesteaks.
[The Jays were going to challenge NY? Halladay in Philly would seem to argue in favour of the *NL* in the WS.]
7. A.J. Burnett still has something to prove.
[That he's not an inbred hillbilly? Good luck!]
21. They aren't the Mets.
[Neither are the other 28 MLB teams.]
28. The hunger is still there.
[CC agrees with this!]
I will probably be in Professor Thom's tonight, so I won't be able to thread. But it should be pretty damn fun (and crowded) down there.
Go Sox!
Slight change to the lineups I posted this AM. Beltre and Drew have been switched, breaking up the LHs.
Are we ready to play ball!?
Bonjour, all!
SI picked Red Sox third. >:(
Oh hi, everyone! Out and about with a couple of stops to make and then home in time for the first pitch. Woo hoo!
I've been pretty well engrossed with hockey lately but damn, I've got baseball fever.
Ofer, it's great you get to watch the game in the same time zone!
I may have to listen w/o threading tonight. I'll have to see how work goes. I'll try to pop in now and again.
A friend of mine from Twitter who has season tickets sent me up a couple for the Dodgers game on 6/19. I'm really excited. Straightaway center, right next to the batters eye. I'll be able to see Manny again!
Ish, did you hear Canada beat the U.S. for the gold medal in hockey? :)
Sabres games are now banned in my household because there is entirely too much swooning going on over Ryan Miller.
DAMN! Last minute ice cream thing at my sister's. And since I don't participate in all the Jesus stuff and the ham dinner with the rest of them earlier, I'll be hexed if I skip this also. Oh well, I'll be watching there and should be home by the 2nd or 3rd inning. Screw should be, WILL be. Gotta have my JoS fix on opening day!
I'm CUMMMMMMMMMIIIINNNNGGGGGG!!!
Hello Twenty Ten Red Sox this is only a game but if you lose I will punch you in the ear.
Earthquake was me being happy that this is all about to happen.
Good evening all. Even though jolly old England has a public holiday tomorrow, I'm not going to make it through.
Happy New Season to you all.
Work has thinned out. Still shit to do, but it can wait and then carried over to Monday.
Play Ball.
Sox win 99 games sweep Twins, Sweep the Angels beat the Phillies in 6.
Lester wins the Cy Young with a 21-4 record and a 3.49 ERA.
CC chokes on a chicken bone and goes on the DL for 30 days.
Youk knocks in 135 runs, wins a gold glove.
LBJ steals 101 bases, FY hits .318, On fire gets hammered everyday for not showing fire by the Media but is loved by JOS.
PLAY BALL!!!
PEDRO!
On fire gets hammered everyday
You know, he has 0 RBI right now.
0!!!
This SportScience guy on ESPN blows.
Fenway gives up 1.30 HR/g, while the average ballpark gives up 1.07 HR/g. Ergo, Fenway is a home run hitter's park.
Brilliant.
I miss him....
I'd like to see him now. MLBtv still holding off.
Glad to see Tek is catching for him.
mlb audio just shit the bed on me. I want to hear the first pitch!
Sorry, Allan. I assumed they were showing NESN.
Pedro, this whole throwing out the first pitch thing is WEIRD.
On now. No choice but your friend Jon.
THERE HE IS!!
This year, I got XM Radio, so no more listening to Joe Morgan or Rick Sutcliffe during ESPN Sox games. Woo hoo!
I am so happy baseball is here. Must mean summer is almost here also.
Anyone else doing MLB audio? The feed isn't loading for me.
Nice to "see" everyone all together again!
Gots to go folks.. Have a great night. Hope it goes well...
The coolest part of this season: I'm sitting in the living room, on the couch, with my shiny netbook. Well, fingerprinty netbook.
i may need a netbook too, depending on how my ancient laptop works on tuesday. i cleared everything off of it, but it may be too creaky.

damnit. I can't hear : (
New Englanders apparently getting a choice between ESPN and NESN. I wonder how ESPN's ratings will be in NE.
Best $400 I've ever spent. I think.
1 P,1 O to start the season? I'll take that.
Good night, Lord. Good to see you.
ESPN2 is blacked out here.
YAY! I can hear!
wow! just made it back with seconds to spare. 1 out.
I am not going to check to see if ESPN is showing the game here; Harvey might argue for a more neutral venue....
1-2-3!
7 pitches - 3 outs.
I like it.
Never heard it before: it's SCOOT-er-o, not Scoo-TAR-o?
I like seven-pitch innings.
I'm enjoying the Giant Glass commercial now, but the nostalgia will turn sour around replay #12
Definitely SCOOT-aro, JGF.
anyone else using this new "atbat" thing at mlb instead of gameday? it looks cool.
Ish, you HAVE to get an iPad. They're all the rage!
If you don't have an iPad, well, then you're just not worth spit!
Is it my imagination, or has CC put on weight?
I think I'm watching the atbat thing with my audio.
The batters look like their from virtual fighter, they're so polygony (new word)
I see I double-posted w/o confirmation from blogger as it sat there w/ leave your comment. Now it didn't post for me on safari, but said it did. maybe it's blogger...
what's FY doing channeling Tek?
alright, got sox radio with espn. that'll be easier on the ears.
McNabb to the Washington Name Not to be typed?
I'd rather have an iPhone.
Hellllooooo JOS!!!!!
Just finished plowing through a plate of crab legs and lobster, delicious.
There was a group of New Brunswickers with a trailer full of seafood selling it for dirt cheap this afternoon in Waterloo, so we loaded up.
Well, CC has thrown more pitches than Beckett already.
Ahh, Tim talking about food. Must be the season has started!!
"New Brunswickers"... LOL. File me under the "I didn't know they were called that" list.
Alright...catching up, settling in.
HI Everybody!
So, Amy, what are you wearing?
lol, i dunno what they're called - sounds right to me!
SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP
It makes sense to me too, Tim, now that I think about it.
Nick, I worked long and hard on my wardrobe. :) And much as I would like to taunt and tease you with salacious images, I am just wearing jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt.
Filthy 2-1 change by Beckett to Rodriguez.
Is it a sox shirt? Some other blog I can't be bothered to remember at the moment had a post about how to dress for the game...and how to not overdo it. Sounds like your in the clear.
espn must have gone 8-10 minutes before showing jeter again. is that a record?
Fuck
ARGHHHHHH
fucking cheap dumbo shit
Oh, fuck. That pesky Pesky pole.
fucking fuckwadded fucker. taking the easy way out.
Fenway dong.
Too cold for a Sox shirt. They are all short sleeves. I can't wear short sleeves til the temps hit 80.
Boooo!
I am wearing my Ellsbury t-shirt.
Double fuck
ARGGGHHH
...

Trying to get used to Blogger again. Reaching back into my mind: What to do and what not to do with "conflicting edits."
Not liking this inning.
Thank goodness Brett Gardener is there for a break (crossing fingers)
Conflicting edits---hit the back key, not refresh, IIRC.
refesh on conflicting.
...
yeah this relying on pitching is great, fuck you theo!
buh
Um, can we get a third out here, Josh?
This whole Ellsbury #2 thing is going to take some getting used to.
emma just said, "I kinda wanna watch something else." "uh, no kid." but I'm almost inclined to agree at this moment.
Totally Tangible.
RSVP.
FINALLY. Damn, what's with Beckett?
YOUKKKK!!!!
YOOOOUUUUKKK!!!!
baltimore dong.
Let's shift that momentum back.
productive cough
We score!
That'll do, Adrian. That'll do.
Sabathier.
Interesting putout by Granderson.
All things considered, that was a pretty good AB by Ortiz.
got an ellsburian jump on that one ....
good to get one on. flashy catch. ready for some (on) fire.
selfish beltre drives in the run so drew is left with no one on base.
Yay! First run of 2010.
Back to work...
"Steven Tyler will sing 'God Bless America' and there will be a special musical guest later on."
I miss the days when the baseball game was enough.
These guys are really working the count. I'm digging it.
was thinking i would get to do some work after the game -- not at this pace.
...
and jd wins over some more fans...
"selfish beltre drives in the run so drew is left with no one on base."
Guy's playing for a contract, you know.
NJ looks like a yankee.
Watney Watch!
Unrelated to baseball: Next time I go to the store I should pick up some frozen blueberries to put in my beer.
GIDP!
Timely DP
CCameron
HURRAY FOR NEW PLAYERS!
Uch, hate ARod.
Ugh
Shit call
I'd go w/ safe. :-(
curse of lugo's uniform?
that's right. I emoticoned that shit.
Ellsbury not getting on base makes me a sad panda.
Beckett is not the dominator tonight....
So close!
I am back, I have moved to Sacramento and so I am about to eat a ham.
I hear that's what one does when they move to Sacramento.
strand him, jb
nice strike there! 1 more....
fuckin yankee joe behind the dish.
fucknuggets.
Crap
sox radio (not joe, the lame-o kid) says that was up and in -- replay has it a hair above jetes's belt.
lugo would've had that.
Dammit Beckett, get the out
schonejhsdhfgdgd up
Beer: drank.
Sugar Maple liqueur: drank.
Bailey's mint chocolate: drank.
And somehow I'm still pissed right now at this game.
Schoeneweis.

I wonder if this early opening night caused Beckett to miss a spring training start he would normally get?
wtf is this shit?
Dang! Oh, well, have to go. My Easter ham is done!
Cock
that freakin' sucks, but it was nicely done. bastardfucks.
I'm ready for runs...and wine.
Why did we sign Lackey anyways? Everyone knows that he has a terrible track record at Fenway.
i wish i had wine.
jb pc: 7-29-13 25 = 74
cc pc: 13-22-15 = 50
I'm not holding out much hope for winning the next game due to that reason.
FY almost hit that ump...
My computer crashed right at that double steal. Guess my computer is a Sox fan.
Too early to crap on the next game, Meunier. we're busy crapping on this one.
don't do that diving shit again, fy.
Ish, you seem to have changed your attitude towards alcohol!
it seems meunier raided the lord's everything-is-shot-to-shit stash of pills.
lester is pitching the next game. we'll lose on wednesday.
"don't do that diving shit again, fy."
To avoid breaking a finger, sure. But it probably maximized his chances of reaching safely -- he reached the bag at full extension without sliding on the dirt, and he avoided getting tagged by Sabathia.
Damn ice cream. OK, OK, the ice cream was good, the shit on the TV screen was not. Fucking Yankees......
there may be dueling studies, but i thought that diving always slows you down -- sprinting straight through is quicker.
WW.
I don't know if I've ever heard ARod speak. That's not what I expected.
Beer Friday night...Wine last night..... Frm the looks of this game, liquor might be in order tonight. Bottle of Crown maybe?
At least Beckett is getting ARod out.
But not too many others...
mfy 2-3-4 hitters are 0-for-8 with a walk
Top 4 are 1-for-11. Sigh.
SASAHE!
"there may be dueling studies, but i thought that diving always slows you down -- sprinting straight through is quicker."
If you suck at it, it is. While you're running at full speed, you want your last step to launch you horizontally so that you touch the bag before your chest hits the dirt. You can really fly through the air with that last step.
Most people don't know how to do it correctly and end up falling over and sliding 5 feet in the dirt.
I'll be surprised if Beckett comes back out for the....nevermind
bye bye beckett (sigh).
pfft.
Not getting enough of them out to make it through the inning...
a diceian line: 4.2-8-5-3-1, 94/54
... long wait for the fat man ...
is that boggs on the mound?
Great.....
deee....feh.
who was that in the pen?
let's go, flo.
be a bad man, Papi.
That was bad, man. Papi.
.083 team BA.
I know it's just the first game, but I sure wish our team looked better, even in the first game.
cameron = 5-3?
score, not a grounder.
Bullpen - Atchison? Or maybe Topeka or Santa Fe....(sorry)
rally time.
If scuts wants to hit a rally-killer I'd be OK with it...this time.
Two runs!
Love those two out rallies....
bastard run-scoring non-rally-killing machine.
keep on doing it.
Bottom of the order's not looking too bad.
More runs please :)
SCOOT-a-ro, or Scoo-TAR-o ?
Damon woulda 3-hopped the throw to third base and held the runners.
LBJ,LBJ,LBJ!
