Great headline, N D train!

I miss seeing the NYC tabs on the subway. Good thing you bring them to us as needed.

The Globe's Nick Cafardo was down in Tampa watching the TCM pitch for Tampa. Scroll down here for info.

Before the game, Tampa catcher Francisco Cervelli called his mom in Venezuela to tell her he would be catching Clemens. He had to explain to her who Clemens was.

allan said...

The Globe's Nick Cafardo was down in Tampa watching the TCM pitch for Tampa.

You can read that sentence in Orsillo's voice.

allan said...

Don logs an "Outstanding" before the first pitch!

Drinking words (not for me, sadly, being at work) -- how about:

Canvas Alley
Very gone
Full bore

Here we go!

allan said...

E-Rent singles with one out, but that's it for ATL in the 1st. 12 pitches for Dice.

allan said...

Lugo!!!

1-0.

HR into the Monster Seats.

allan said...

After Yook flies to right, Ortiz walks, Manny doubles, and after 2 balls to Drew, they BBI him.

Loaded with 1 out for Lowell.

allan said...

ATL pen already up!

s1c said...

Bases loaded for LOL. no double play, no double play

Sean O said...

C'mon, make 'em pay Tek.

Anyone else feel this could be Drew's breakout? Who better than against AAAA?

allan said...

But Lowell flies to CF and Tek flies to LF. Bah.

1-0 Sox after 1.

allan said...

LOB-otomy for the Sox. Grrr.

s1c said...

If Drew breaks out, expect it in the day game since he bats 200 against Smoltz. Which is why I expect Hinske in the night cap playing rf.

allan said...

Another one-out given up by Dice, but he gets the 3-6-1 DP, coming off the bag for the throw and tagging the runner himself.

Sean O said...

Was that a 6 pitch inning? A 6 pitch inning? Lord.

allan said...

Yup. 6. 18 for the 2 innings.

allan said...

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!

2-run HR to straight away CF.

3-0.

Sean O said...

Lareeewwww is this is getting ugly. WTG GGOW.

allan said...

ATL pen back up and another trip to mound by Roger "Second Spitter" MacDowell.

Let's go, Manny!

allan said...

F9 for Manny. 3-0 after 2.

Just thinking about the MFY coming in and checking the TV and seeing the Sox up early again. ... They have to be pressing now. Don't wanna lose two to the Stems and fall 11 back.

allan said...

Manny's got a gun!

Don't run on MBM!!!

s1c said...

The Braves got ripped off there. Yep, he was in there. Still, will take that.

allan said...

Manny with the quick, sidearm whip throw that comes into second base perfectly on target on one bounce.

YEAH!!

allan said...

Dice PC: 12-8-9 = 27

Lerew PC: 27-21 = 48

allan said...

ATL goes to the pen. ?!!?

allan said...

Tina with the "full bore"!

Your choice as to a drink.

laura k said...

No drinking on Tina.

Although I do always think her last name sounds like cerveza.

allan said...

Holy Shit!!!

SL wearing shoes with Papi's face on them.

I need a pair!

allan said...

Sell those things! How many shoes would they sell in the first week? A million?

allan said...

Don: "Chipper Jones ... you've been Dice-K'd!"

Hmmmmm, I don't like it.

allan said...

Too fake sounding, too Michael Kayish.

allan said...

"Both down by way of the K!"

That's better.

Sean O said...

Coco GIDP to Renteria is *perfect.* We're paying Renteria 4m a year to turn that DP against us, hit by the guy hitting .237 we got from the Renteria trade.

Things come full circle.

allan said...

Actually, it's more Sterling than Kay. Just wanna be accurate.

Sean O said...

Better than Waldman: "THAT IS THE MOST DRAMATIC STRIKEOUT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED."

Sean O said...

Side note: what is the most dramatic strikeout you've ever seen? It would have to be Game 6 of the 04 ALCS, right?

allan said...

Dice has allowed a single in each of the first four innings, but none of those runners has advanced to second.

Last two outings and this one, it sure looks like he's more comfortable.

allan said...

what is the most dramatic strikeout you've ever seen?

Yeah, gotta love the Thermos.

But Lowe's freezing of Long to end the 2003 ALDS is a VERY close second. Man, that pitch was nasty.

laura k said...

"Chipper Jones ... you've been Dice-K'd!"

I like it!!!

Sean O said...

Redman killed us last june or july, so while i'm not exactly quaking, I don't think we're gonna tee off. Most importantly, see lots of pitches, and destroy their 'pen for tonight and tomorrow. With Gonzalez gone, getting Soriano over with in garbage time would be a dream.

Don't be surprised to see their closer if there's garbage time, since they're doing a Zumaya/Jones thing.

Off to see a show in Boston, then dinner, have a good one all.

Zenslinger said...

Fucking blackout on mlb.tv, ex-middleweight Pat "Irish" Lawlor (who once fought Roberto Duran) can't figure out how to get NESN going in the bar. All right, maybe I don't need to be in the bar before noon, but I like to watch Matsuzaka.

For now it's the RKO feed and watching Kaibutsu's ERA sink down past four -- keep goin', buddy. Ganbatte.

laura k said...

Another pitcher for Atlanta? At this rate Cox should burn thru his whole staff by the 3rd inning of game 2.

laura k said...

Yeah, gotta love the Thermos.

I thought of that too.

But who can remember all the dramatic strikeouts you've seen? I sure can't.

allan said...

But who can remember all the dramatic strikeouts you've seen? I sure can't.

I thought of Lowe/Long immediately. And how I practically levitated out of my chair. If they are dramatic enough, you remember.

allan said...

Plus Lowe did the crotch slap/grab that made Miggy's kids cry.

Lowe might actually top the Thermos in my mind.

Zenslinger said...

The Thermos?

You gotta work on that glossary, Allan.

allan said...

COCO!!!!! Fuckin' A!

Basket catch over his shoulder heading just tot he left of the triangle.

Damn!!

allan said...

Dice PC: 12-6-9 17-13 = 57

Another CG?

allan said...

Tony Clark = Thermos.

When he was with the 2002 Sox, everyone got off to a hot start except him. He stayed cold while all around him was hot. A Thermos.

allan said...

Sox 5th: Inning opens with sngles from Tizzle, Manny and DJ Werd.

allan said...

GRAND SLAM LOWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!

9casey said...

Did that ball go as far as gameday says it did?

Zenslinger said...

That was fun even just to listen to!

allan said...

Crushed over everything in left.

7-0.

Ball's in your court, Yanks!

allan said...

Lowell about the only regular who is hitting better than expected. Everyone else is about the same or down.

9casey said...

Really, what about Yook , you expected him to hit .333

allan said...

So at 28-12, we're on pace to finish with what? 113 wins.

laura k said...

Yes, work on the glossary!! Right now, get to work.

If they are dramatic enough, you remember.

If enough of your brain cells are still functioning.

allan said...

Yook has been hot, yeah.

laura k said...

Tizzle, Manny and DJ Werd

DJ Werd: I get a nickel every time you say that.

allan said...

Both Yook's and Tiz's average (.315) is higher than expected.

Most hitters have been doing less than what we'd normally expect.

allan said...

Did you know Mike Lowell's father's name is Ekim?

laura k said...

Did you know Mike Lowell's father's name is Ekim?

Heh. Still not as good as Ococ. You know, Crisp's dad.

allan said...

10-pitch sixth for Dice. 67 total.

Not only that, but he just sent me an email:

"I have a question for Sean: How you like me now?"

allan said...

Speaking about angering the baseball gods ... don't worry.

God is playing for us. He's the DH.

Walk, single, single, double.

laura k said...

Allan, stop attacking Sean.

***

Hey, did you hear that? The longest name in MLB history? Cool.

Jerry of course afraid to attempt it.

allan said...

Salty.

laura k said...

This is amazing. Anyone who is too worried about a possible collapse to enjoy this glorious season is so foolish. It is SO. MUCH. FUN.

allan said...

Saltalamacchia.

...

I like Mike.

laura k said...

Mike's having quite the day.

Saltalamacchia

:-)

allan said...

Coco doubles in 2 more runs with an 11-pitch at-bat.

bbcbcfffff, then 2B to lcf.

10-0.

Benjamin said...

+10

Why is that number so familiar? :)

allan said...

E6gar.

2nd and 3rd for Lugo.

Zenslinger said...

Nice, Coco.

I'm going to Bjork tonight so won't see the second game. Might watch some Yanks -- I dunno.

Trivia: I share a last name with the guy who hit the HR off of Clemens, with a minor spelling difference. Interesting only because it's not a name you hear much.

allan said...

Atlanta needs some better pitching, paronto!

allan said...

Lugo doubles in two more. 12-0.

Benjamin said...

Braves: 158 pitches through 5 2/3 innings.
DiceK: 67 pitches through 6 innings.

Zenslinger said...

Braves are my NL team, so it's a bit of a mixed blessing for me.

allan said...

In 6 innings:

ATL pitchers have thrown 162 pitches. Dice has thrown 67.

ATL has not had a runner past first base.

We lead 12-0 on 15 hits and 6 walks.

laura k said...

Braves are my NL team, so it's a bit of a mixed blessing for me.

Kinda like how I feel being forced to want the Mets to win.

San Francisco Red Sox Fan said...

this is ugly. But it's a good kind of ugly.

allan said...

phrenile and i doing the same addition.

laura k said...

Atlanta needs some better pitching, paronto!

*groan*

laura k said...

this is ugly. But it's a good kind of ugly.

I think it's bee-yoo-tee-ful.

allan said...

Alright, one guy to second.

allan said...

Damn, there goes the shutout.

...

aggrr and a HR. 12-3.

laura k said...

Braves on the board. Dice-K sucks.

San Francisco Red Sox Fan said...

Is anyone watching this game? Is WMP just missing these plays or are they not catchable? Hard to tell by listening to the radio.

allan said...

Is anyone watching this game?

Uh, yes.

Larry's hit into the corner might have been catchable, but it would have be a gem. He did pull up, but it hit the dirt right in frnt of the 310 mark.

The other one was lined over his head off the wall. He turned the wrong way, but didn't seem to have a chance. He bobbled it a bit, but it was still a single.

allan said...

Super Genius!

San Francisco Red Sox Fan said...

Okay, I forgive WMP.

allan said...

OMG!!!

WMP's ball just landed on my desk!!!

allan said...

That Sanchez-Ramirez for Lowell trade is looking better every day. Even if we did have to take that piece of garbage Beckett in the deal.

4-for-5, two singles, double, home run, 5 RBI, 2 runs scored.

allan said...

Dice still dealing. Hell of a splitter for a K of Johnson in the 8th.

We got this guy for the next 6 years?!?!?!

Where will Igawa be in 2012?

allan said...

Dear Fenway Fans:

Could you morons stop doing the wave for a fucking minute or two and cheer this magnificent pitching performance?

Thanks.

9casey said...

Shouldn't this Be Joel Pinero time?

Zenslinger said...

Does it look like Dice-K is going to come back in? They may as well let him finish, save the bullpen. Even Pinero.

Wave is obnoxious and the early "Sweet Caroline" kind of a thumb in the Braves' eye.

allan said...

Snyder coming in for the 9th.

laura k said...

Braves announcers sound very glum. Going to commercial, they said, "Red Sox by a bunch."

allan said...

Last 2 starts for Dice: 17 innings and 0 walks.

Zenslinger said...

Posada bases-load RBI groundout in the first vs. Glavine, who walked two. 2 outs, first and third for Abreu.

allan said...

10.5, bitches!

laura k said...

See y'all for the nightcap.

allan said...

NYY get 1 in the top of the 1st, but the first two Mets single off Rasner.

allan said...

Rasner hurt on the second hit, leaving game! Mike Myers in.

hahahahahahahahahah!!!!

Zenslinger said...

Last 2 starts for Dice: 17 innings and 0 walks.

When he's not walking folks, he's going to do well. Maybe not the sparkling ERA you might admire, but you can trade that pleasure in for knowing he often gets better as the game goes on.

Go Mets! I feel for my Yankee fan friends a little, but the truth is that no hole is deep enough.

allan said...

Showing Lowell's salami on Fox as Myers warms up!

(ignore how that sort of sounds)

Zenslinger said...

And Rasner's (1-2, 3.28 ERA into today) hurt in the first inning. Myers in.

allan said...

Myers to Beltran: 7 pitches and 3 throws to first.

Finally, a sac fly to short CF. Noodlearm can barely get it to the mound to be cut off.

1-1.

allan said...

Wright follows with an HR.

3-1 Stems, after 1.

Ben Moseley said...

Did anybody else just see the post-game interview of Dice-K where he said that he thinks he could pitch up to 140-150 pitches a game?

Did I mishear that or something? That's an incredulous number.

allan said...

I don't know what his average was in Japan, but I'll bet he threw that many every so often. Hell, he once had a bullpen session (last year?) of 330 pitches!!!

G42 post is up if anyone watching the Mets wants to comment.

Ben Moseley said...

True. Now, this guy is a true ace/bulldog. He's definitely worth the millions he spent to get him.

Jackie said...

Clearly I'm late to this party! But if I recall correctly, DK threw 250 pitches in an extra-extra inning complete game at some point in Japan. Maybe high school? And he pitched several days in a row/on really short rest in the Koshien series... he definitely likes to throw!

Also, redsock, I do believe you just proved Sean's point about quotability on the internets. ;)

allan said...

Also, redsock, I do believe you just proved Sean's point about quotability on the internets.

???

allan said...

This should be comment #118. A new JoS record (we had 113 for G36)!

laura k said...

A new JoS record (we had 113 for G36)!

Does it matter that half of them are you?

Also, redsock, I do believe you just proved Sean's point about quotability on the internets.

I also don't know what this means. Were there NYY fans afoot?

allan said...

Actually, it looks like about 73 of them were me (now 74, I guess).

About 2/3, no?

laura k said...

Eh, whatever. As long as you're entertained. :)
