G10: Rays 3, Red Sox 1 (12)

Rays - 001 000 000 002 - 3 5 1
Red Sox - 000 010 000 000 - 1 5 1
The Red Sox loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th on two singles and an infield error, but could not score (Ortiz FC/3-2, Beltre GIDP/5-3).

Then less than 10 minutes later, Pat Burrell hit a two-run home run off Manny Delcarmen. Jason Varitek doubled with one out in the bottom of the 12th, but Mike Cameron and Marco Scutaro could not advance him.
Example
Friday's suspended game will be resumed tonight at 7 PM, and the regularly scheduled game will follow.

David Ortiz wanted to keep playing: "I was ready for a walk-off."

It is the Red Sox's first suspended since May 3, 1996 (Blue Jays at Fenway Park). The Rays had never had a regular-season game suspended.

Carl Crawford stole his 28th consecutive base against the Red Sox. Boston has not thrown him out since September 21, 2005. The Red Sox have thrown out only one of 17 attempted base stealers. Why don't teams run six, eight, ten times a game? It must be one of those "unwritten rules".
Example
After a rain delay of a little more than an hour (10:21 to 11:24), tonight's game has been suspended with the Red Sox due to bat in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rays scored an unearned run off Beckett (7-4-1-1-8, 106) and Jason Varitek (!) tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth.
Example
Wade Davis / Josh Beckett

Tampa Bay is 6-3, tied for second place with the Yankees, 0.5 GB the Blue Jays. The Red Sox (4-5) are 2.5 GB.

Alex Speier takes an in-depth look at several of the Red Sox's current problems. Since that was posted, it has been reported Mike Cameron has a kidney stone (which are no fun) and Jacoby Ellsbury will not be able to play tonight.

Until Game Time: The All-Color Team, including Jimmy Lavender and Preston Purple.

Buried at work, have no idea what, if any, of this one I'll see or hear.

Despite his poor start, Drew #2 is nice. I can't imagine there is any other possible reason Tiz is up so high other than Tito wants a LH amid the RHs.

mmmmm......
There is oatmeal, and there is rock and roll.
Another miss for me. I'll be burying my head in some rock and roll tonight and tomorrow night as well.
And who's that team listed on the Red Sox lone-up card. That's not the 2010 Boston team I know. Not the one I want to come to know either.
Get well soon......EVERYBODY.
(muthaf#@r please!)
Drew may be allright in the 2 spot, but I just can't see moving laser-shot FY outta there. Eh, it's just me though.
Here's hoping my late-night alcohol-influenced comments are of a positive nature tonight ;>

meunier said...

I am playing a Red Sox franchise in MLB 2k10 and Reddick can't hit anything so far this season either.
My team average is 300 for the Paw Sox

meunier said...

Was there a call-up made for a 4th outfielder?

laura k said...

Baseball! I haven't seen any all week, except for trying to avoid seeing the NYY home opener while having lunch at a bar.

Win tonight.

laura k said...

Mike Cameron's kidney stone is gone.

allan said...

well, just typing now, so i'm trying nesn in my ear. ... cameron passed his stone!

meunier said...

Remy spent too much time on the golf course without a hat yesterday.

laura k said...

Gamethreaders, do me a favour tonight: DNFTT, if applicable.

meunier said...

But is he still stoned from the painkillers?

laura k said...

Or they slathered too much makeup on him.

laura k said...

off to a nice start.

laura k said...

I remember when I used to say "THEY CANNOT CATCH HIM... THEY WILL NEVER CATCH HIM..." about LBJ. It applies to Crawford vs Red Sox!

laura k said...

Josh! Nice.

laura k said...

OTT

allan said...

SoSh had a poll about what would be the first to happen:

Ortiz HR
Beltre BB
Opponent CS

(though there has been 1 CS)

meunier said...

DNFTT ??

laura k said...

Google it

meunier said...

I saw some old friends this weekend: Jeff Bailey, who is hitting .400, and Rick Burleson.

meunier said...

Now at bat, the corpse of David Ortiz.

laura k said...

Where are they?

allan said...

Poll:

What rare event will take place first?
Beltre Walks [50] [55.56%]
Ortiz Homers [23] [25.56%]
The Red Sox throw out a runner trying to steal [17] [18.89%]

allan said...

Gumball is with Arizona, I think.

meunier said...

Bailey is playing 1B and Burleson is the hitting coach for the AAA Reno Aces (ARI).

laura k said...

Oh cool.

meunier said...

I had to drive back and forth over 7,200 foot Donner Pass to see that game. Talk about a windy road.

laura k said...

Thank you wind

laura k said...

That sounds like fun.

Of course the name Donner doesn't make you want to stop for lunch.

allan said...

Burleson turns 59 in a couple of weeks but it makes me feel much older to say he'll be 60 next year.

meunier said...

Scientists just disproved that the Donner party ate any of themselves.
The archeologists found no human bones at the site.
http://news.discovery.com/history/donner-party-cannibalism.html

laura k said...

I believe it's still up for debate. But I was only being silly.

meunier said...

There's nada at the pass itself, the nearest town is Truckee where I had dinner.

meunier said...

Grab some pine!

laura k said...

Another perspective: lack of bones is not definitive evidence.

laura k said...

When you're out in the desert, even a little, it's wild to imagine people crossing with horses and wagons, totally unprepared.

laura k said...

I guess Ortiz's corpse was up earlier (?) but here is the man himself.

allan said...

typing the text of an old and fuzzy copy of an agreement that did not scan very well. funny in light of the discussion that i just corrected "eat such party" to "each such party".

laura k said...

That would change the contract a bit.

allan said...

this is better:

"... shall not sell, lease or trade the Vehicle to any person whom Purchaser blew ..."

laura k said...

LOL

"Please furnish us with a list of everyone Purchaser blew..."

allan said...

this scan is hilarious:

"... may send Purchaser information on products, services or events that may be of interest to Purchaser by mall or anal."

(should be "mail or email")

laura k said...

That's hilarious. Our work is not usually suggestive in that way.

laura k said...

Oh holy crap

meunier said...

Well damn Beltre loses it in the lights.

laura k said...

Remy: "You don't see many ground balls lost in the light tower."

That is true.

meunier said...

If we can't get 2 runs on Tampa we are really struggling.

laura k said...

Running wild, what else is new

laura k said...

K

laura k said...

This thread is almost as exciting as this game.

laura k said...

sweaty walk

laura k said...

People are booing Ortiz.

meunier said...

I thought he got a piece of that, I heard the bat hit the ball.

meunier said...

Moot point since it was caught anyway.

laura k said...

squander

meunier said...

Take strike 2 you basehead

meunier said...

The weather is farking us hard tonight.

laura k said...

ACK!

meunier said...

OT; Has anyone here been to the Dominican Republic ever?

allan said...

People are booing Ortiz.

Shitheads. Meaning there is nothing in their heads but shit.

9casey said...

they are hard to watch right now...

laura k said...

I haven't, as I'm not an island/beach person, but it's a very very popular destination for Canadians (as you may know).

laura k said...

Punta Cana is where many Cdns go

laura k said...

They are. It's true.

But anyone who boos Ortiz (out loud, in person) should be banned from Fenway for life.

9casey said...

when I was young and we would go to the cape a lot of the french canadiens would like to sport the speedo, with hair pouring out everywhere, it was my first impression of the canadiens, just thought I share that....

laura k said...

Ewww. Thank you for sharing, I guess.

laura k said...

Yeah! Nice DP.

9casey said...

that was fun

9casey said...

on the yes network they show the pitch count with score so you always see it...really annoys me

laura k said...

CAPTAIN DONG!!!!!

9casey said...

that's right haters.....booooooooyahhhhh

laura k said...

I swear to you I was about to type "Tek ties it right here." Before I could type it, he did it.

meunier said...

Sitting here wishing on a cement floor...

meunier said...

/obscure music reference

laura k said...

It bothers you to see the count?

9casey said...

not the count, the number of pitches like 77, 78

laura k said...

Cactus musical reference, cute

allan said...

OMG - he hit another one???

This play-once-a-week thing agrees with his bat - he's hittin' like Poo-holes.

laura k said...

Oh I wouldn't like that either.

allan said...

instead of a total pitch count, they could keep a list of the pitches in the current AB:

b s b f

like that -- so when i go to type a comment and miss a pitch or two, i can fill them in really easy.

laura k said...

Dead air - only crowd noise - so nice. I wish we could have so much more of that. Not that I mind Don & Jerry but the game is so nice without any chatter.

Stephanie Frisina said...

Hello JOS!

tim said...

I mean, Hello JOS!

laura k said...

Hi Stephanie

laura k said...

Oh there you are :)

laura k said...

So Tim, did you get to that Jays game?

tim said...

Been watching the game, whilst cooking dinner. Also flipping between NHL and this, but Tek dong - what's that about?! Classic backwards April as usual - Tek doing well, Jays in first.

I was at the opening night for Toronto, GREAT game. They lost, which was sweet too.

Can't believe how hard it was to get a ticket to that, but I guess the attendance for the entire 4 game series averaged out.

Scalpers wanted (and were getting) $100 for a 500 level seat!!!! Face value of $13.

We ended up buying 2 single tickets in different sections in the 100s from a scalper, stood behind the plate for an inning then found a row of empty seats up from 1B we were able to sit at.

tim said...

haha, i posted that before i saw your comment

tim said...

Allan should run a spreadsheet/graph...Tek's average and the Jays record, see what kind of correlation is there.

I would but I'm too lazy/burned out from spreadsheeting at work.

tim said...

And I agree re: sox 'fans' booing ortiz.

laura k said...

Scalpers for a Jays game! That's rarer than... can't say a Cactus hit, can I?

I've never seen that place sold out, not even for Red Sox or Yankees.

meunier said...

I know they go to Punta Cana and Samara a lot, I just wish someone would import maple syrup into the DR, none is sold in the country.

laura k said...

So what's the deal? You were in the DR and you missed syrup?

(Way to be a walking stereotype!)

tim said...

I think that was the one game of the year where they make all their money.

Box office walk-up was sold out.

Then they had the lowest attendance ever the next night (or the 2nd next night)...w/e. Stupid Jays 'fans'. I've already vented enough on facebook.

laura k said...

That's more like it, a few fans chanting PA-PI PA-PI

meunier said...

I'm planning to move to Santiago DR to get a Master's in Criminal Justice. I will still need Spanish as a 2nd language classes, I would say I'm intermediate. At least I have a Spanish for Law Enforcement workbook I can do.

tim said...

PA-PI! PA-PI!

FU-CK! FU-CK!

laura k said...

PAPI HIT!

Oh shit Yook out at the plate.

meunier said...

dammit to hell

laura k said...

Why the DR for the degree?

laura k said...

Jays "fans" are definitely some of the worst in baseball. People here like to say that the team hasn't done anything since 92/93, so the fans stay away. Idiots. I can just imagine how they all became instant fans in September, then dropped out in May of the following year.

meunier said...

I have other reasons also, to get away from the rapidly forming USA police state and soon to come currency crash. Not to mention the weather and women in the DR. The drawbacks are needing bottled water, a genset to cover for spotty electricity plus your general developing country corruption.

tim said...

Well, 90s were a different time for the Jays - I think attendance was still decent after the two WS wins, and fanfare was definitely rampant before that due to their success in the late 80s/early 90s.

There used to be a special go train each way leaving 30 min after the end of the game, regardless of the time.

Now...yup, definitely shit fans. It seems to be an excuse to get shitfaced for many people...and at $10 a beer, why not?! (/s)

meunier said...

It's 20k cheaper than the USA for a degree. PUCMM is a good school, it has dual degrees with the Sorbonne and Fordham.

laura k said...

I'm sure it was different. I mean the so-called fans blaming their lack of interest on the team's performance since then. Yeah, tell that to a Sox fan. Right.

There used to be a special go train each way leaving 30 min after the end of the game, regardless of the time.

That's cool! We once actually left a Sox-Jays game early to get a train. But after the third Vernon Wells dong, it seemed like the thing to do.

meunier said...

Dammit we had them on the ropes..

tim said...

I wonder if that was that wild 8-6 (or something) Jays win, Friday night a few years back - I was there!

There were like 8 HRs hit, I think Manny had a couple, Tek had one, Overbay had a couple...I dunno. But that was ridiculous, just pissed the Sox lost.

laura k said...

"Women and weather"? Weather I get (although I would hate it), but what makes you think the women are any different there than anywhere else?

laura k said...

I don't think so. The Sox did nothing the entire game. It would have been a weekday, too.

I'm sure Allan will be around with the facts soon. :)

tim said...

More than one Vernon 3HR game against Boston?

Ewwwwww.

laura k said...

I know! I hope I'm wrong and it was the same game.

tim said...

Alright, gotta bring Steph out for ice cream.

Yay for the MLB radio iPhone app!

allan said...

wells hit them off beckett.

i think he hit like 5 that year off him, probably 2007, that was josh's fuck you i have a fastball and i'm going to throw it all the time no matter how far everyone hits it season.

laura k said...

couldn't have been 2007. ray was at our place in port credit, could only have been 2006.

allan said...

it was may 30, 2006

jays won 8-5; wells hit 3 and glaus hit 2 (beckett gave up 2 to each guy)

wells hit the 3rd one off david riske, but we were probably on the GO by then!

laura k said...

almost: we were walking through the "skywalk" on our way to the train. we heard the foghorn and cheering, and later some people told us it was wells again.

laura k said...

so tim - when you come back - was that the same game?

allan said...

the asap work is done, now only about 3 hours of transcribing shit.

i think i shall take a break and watch the rest of the game.

meunier said...

Have you seen them? If you had spent time there this would need no explanation.

laura k said...

So you're just saying Latina women appeal to you.

laura k said...

"Them," like they all look alike. I lived in a Dominican neighbourhood in NYC for 15 years. "They" looked like all kinds of things - including old, fat and ugly.

A Conformer said...

Hey, joining in for the final innings here. Beckett seems to have had a mighty fine start.

Amy said...

Hi guys. Hey, we are not losing! Time to score runs before the ninth inning, please.

Welcome home, Laura!

laura k said...

WTF is this ad with FY on a trampoline? Yeesh.

Amy said...

Hey, Ofer, you back in Israel or still in the US?

allan said...

so -- tek walk-off tonight?

allan said...

Amy - Guess how we got our run!

allan said...

choate!
yay - win for us!

Amy said...

Tek? I am telling you---he's not washed up yet. :)

laura k said...

Thanks Amy! I was going to say the same thing as Allan re our 1 run.

johngoldfine said...

Amy trouble at the border coming home, l-girl?

A Conformer said...

Israel, Amy. In all its glorious, post-4:30 muezzin 5-AMness.

Amy said...

Of course, I have not seen any of his dongs yet this season.

allan said...

aww - didn't stick around.

nice fenway stats for small game james!

Amy said...

Ofer, I don't know how you adjust to all the jet lag!

A Conformer said...

Amy, have you been giving Laura trouble at the border yet again?

laura k said...

Hi John. My border trouble is only entering the US, never entering Canada.

Amy said...

LOL! I was going to tease JGF about the typo, but figured he's probably as tired as I am. But not as tired as you must be!

laura k said...

Ha ha, I didn't even see that typo. Here I thought it was the US military, but it's been Amy all along!

allan said...

check recent wmtc thread "border (something) - take 2" and comments for our fun on monday and my fun yesterday.

johngoldfine said...

We waived farewells as you left the homeland, eh?

Amy said...

I probably would give Laura trouble at the border.

Amy said...

Waived farewells? As in decided not to say goodbye?

johngoldfine said...

Not tired especially but never much of a typist either.

Amy said...

Hmm, maybe that wasn't a typo. I thought you meant WAVED goodbye. But now I see the alternative meaning.

English. Such a confusing language.

johngoldfine said...

That was my thought, amy.

:)

allan said...

the artist formerly known as snuffer is up

Amy said...

Got to be a walkoff. A Tek walkoff would be sweet.

meunier said...

Free baseball looms on the horizon..

A Conformer said...

Nah, if I was tired I'd be sleeping. Was reading some atheist-theist debates online, even though at some point they became a pretty boring blowout for the good guys (-;

Which is not what we're seeing tonight at all, I must say. Will we get Shakespeare for the 9th?

laura k said...

Hm, not sure I'm following this waived/waved homeland thread here. My trouble started when I used my passport to help someone the US doesn't want helped.

johngoldfine said...

Think about reverting to the old avatar, amy!

Amy said...

Processing! Another wonderful word. We process papers, we process words, we process foods, and now we process people at the border.

Amy said...

You will have to ask JGF which meaning he intended: did the US wave goodbye or waive goodbyes as you left the country?

laura k said...

I think people have been processed at the border for a long, long time.

Amy said...

I am trying to ignore the fact that Pap is pitching.

A Conformer said...

Shit, that was close to a foul out.

Amy said...

Yes, I am sure you're right. It just sounded funny. But then I am tired. Everything sounds funny.

laura k said...

I think I'll pass on the waive vs wave question. I'm just always so glad to come back to Canada.

johngoldfine said...

English teacher decided to play on wave/waive. No typo. I assume l-girl would prefer the most perfunctory goodbyes from our Homeland Security.

laura k said...

In Canada, you can be processed, but you go through a PRO-cess, pro rhymes with toe.

A Conformer said...

and now we process people at the border.

Almost as good a term as 'human resources'.

allan said...

if we are taking requests, how about a leadoff, first-pitch, mega-dong walk-off from the bedazzler?

Amy said...

Wow, it's really raining. Has it been raining for the whole game this way? Supposed to be a miserable weekend.

A Conformer said...

if we are taking requests, how about a leadoff, first-pitch, mega-dong walk-off from the bedazzler?

Seconded.

Amy said...

One out. Finally.

laura k said...

I hear "human resources" so much that when I see HR, I think that before I think home run.

laura k said...

Oh I'll third that second. Definitely my first choice.

Amy said...

If we go to the tenth, I hope we do not see Pap again.

Laura, glad you are glad to be back home. I hope you did have a good time while in NY/NJ.

Amy said...

An Ortiz walkoff would be very sweet also.

A Conformer said...

I just started drinking, so we should be winning in no time.

laura k said...

John, very true. I do wonder how long this will continue, when DHS will call it off, if ever.

allan said...

it was raining when the game started, but i think it has gotten hard only recently.

laura k said...

I had a great time, Amy, thanks. Very relaxing and refreshing.

allan said...

meant to post this before: attendance at jays season-opening season was 40-42K, then down to 12,000 and then barely 10,000.

laura k said...

OK, let's put this away, Former Snuffer.

allan said...

crowd sounds ready to rock.

johngoldfine said...

Security theatre at DHS, l-girl, and when you show up, they decide to mount a farce--lots of slamming doors, misunderstood communication, surprise entrances and exits, everything a farce needs except sex, fun, and effervesence.

Amy said...

These at bats are endless.

Glad to hear it was a good trip, Laura.

laura k said...

Oh it's definitely Security Theatre. They know I'm no threat. It's also political intimidation theatre. As if.

Amy said...

Uch.

laura k said...

John, that's a great image, the slamming-door farce. :)

allan said...

if tiz goes deep here in the rain, will he finally become a real red sox?

A Conformer said...

Why was Peña running to 1st on that walk...?

laura k said...

Is that well-known, Allan, or just your own inside joke/obsession?

allan said...

0-2 - get the out.

A Conformer said...

Shit, when Peña steals on you without a throw, that's not very good...

laura k said...

OK, here we go!

Amy said...

FINALLY.

Please score A run. Please.

johngoldfine said...

Yes! Whew!

laura k said...

They've been stealing on us all night, as per usual.

allan said...

... maybe he has to wait until shemp gives him a hitting tip in cincinnati.

A Conformer said...

I expect to already be sleeping at 5:30.

allan said...

yanks won, jays lost.

laura k said...

What is this, Michael Kay's greatest hit night?

Amy said...

DELAY??? NOW??

laura k said...

TARP? Fucking tarp NOW?

allan said...

no, "stupid recent yankee myth night"

Amy said...

I am not sure I can wait for the rain to stop.

laura k said...

This is the stupidest thing! I'm gonna take a thread break, see you post-delay.
