G22: Red Sox 2, Blue Jays 0

Red Sox - 000 001 100 - 2 8 0
Blue Jays - 000 000 000 - 0 2 0
Lester (7-1-0-2-11, 119) and Darnell McDonald (doubled and scored the first run, drove in the second one with a single) led Boston (11-11) to a three-game sweep of the Blue Jays.
Example
Jon Lester / Brett Cecil
Scutaro, SS
Pedroia, 2B
Martinez, DH
Youkilis, 1B
Drew, RF
Varitek, C
Beltre, 3B
Hall, LF
McDonald, CF
Lester and Cecil faced each other back on August 20, 2009; Boston won 8-1.

David Ortiz will be on the bench for the 4th time in eight games. Victor Martinez will be the DH, with Jason Varitek (who hit 2 dongs off Cecil last May 20) behind the plate.

Some of Peter Abraham's game notes: Red Sox relievers have pitched 71 innings; in the AL, only the Tigers (72.2) have thrown more. Adrian Beltre is 8 of his last 17, Dustin Pedroia is 8 of 19, and J.D. Drew is 7 of 23. Victor Martinez hasn't had an extra-base hit since April 15 (almost two weeks).

Wild game in Colorado (11-11 now).

Lincecum gives up three hits in 8.1, including a solo HR to Howard. Then Wilson lets them tie it up. SF fans growl.

BUT San Francisco manages to tie it up 5-5 in the bottom of the 10th.

Watching Montreal-Washington game 7, as is apparently everyone who would consider attending this game in SkyRogersDomeCentre.

Will be hanging around here to read the scuttlebutt so I know when to flip over.

I wonder if Tek changed from the high socks to change his luck at the bat.

Amy said...

at bat, at the plate

jays tv pat tabler says tito has been doing different stuff to get the offense going this month - like bunching the good hitters together, starting putting pedroia, martinez and yook together in the order

...

because before tito had pedroia hit 2nd, yook was #6 and martinez was maybe 8 or 9 ...

Zenslinger said...

Not sure that was an error on your part, Amy. Isn't it "Casey at the Bat"?

The long socks were not real attractive. Then again, "attractive" and Varitek don't really sit side by side in my book.

Rob said...

I love what NESN is doing, showing the updated pitch count after each pitch.,

Why isnt the Dr. DH'ing?

Don't tell just about every woman over 30 at Fenway Park on an average night :O

Amy said...

LOL, Zen. Hey, if that's why he changed, it seems to be working. It seems unlikely appearances had anything to do with it.

I sort of like the high socks look on some players, but not on others. I liked it on Tek. He looks funny to me with his pants covering his whole leg.

allan said...

tabler talking about jacoby else-berry.

gojohn said...

I was thinking about this today. Alan Embree replaces Atchinson in the pen.... feels like 2004 - Wakefield, Varitek, Ortiz, Embree. Too bad they're all 6 years older as am I...

Amy said...

I find Tek mildly physically attractive---he's not really my type. I just like him because I like catchers generally, he was at one time decent both at the plate and behind the plate, and he has a calm demeanor most of the time. I don't like the whackjobs who have fits every time something doesn't go their way. Though I did love Tek pushing his glove into ARod's ugly face.

allan said...

yeah right tabler, wells was thinking 3. hoooo kay

Joe Gravellese said...

By the way, this would have been more appropriate last week, but
Doooomed

Zenslinger said...

It's a bit of a mystery to me exactly what women find attractive in us men. A few cases are pretty obvious, but opinions differ so much on the rest.

For example, a friend of mine has polar opposite opinions from you on the desirability of Tek and A-Rod.

meunier said...

TAKE YOUR SEAT!

Amy said...

Zen, we are no more mysterious than men are. :)

Posada leaves the game after being hit in the knee. Doesn't seem serious.

meunier said...

I dind't think Hall could do that anymore!

This comment by Pokey Reese on the discussion of Ortiz sent a chill up my spine:

"Do people realize that despite leading the league in HRs after May [in 2009] Ortiz was still worth less than one win over a replacement player?"

nick said...

I've always liked the long socks on Tek. Haven't noticed him in the long pants. guess I have't been paying attention.

Rob said...

Lester's looking good.... so far.

Rob said...

On the scoreboard anyways. 52 pitches in 3+

Rob said...

Still impressed by HH's outing last night.

allan said...

jays guys amazed that teams passed on lester -- don't they know that while he was good int he minors, he was dice before dice -- took forever to pitch, walked guys, loaded bases, got out of jams. HE was houdini! he became dynamite only in the last couple of years.

.... so obvious these guys do no research and have not done any for years!

Why?

nick said...

I'm wondering what sort of pressure is being/can be put on MLB and the teams that participate in the Cactus league to pull out of Arizona. There's a large enough number of players who are latino that they could make the argument that their players aren't safe there, regardless of their legal status.

9casey said...

That inning lasted like 6 minutes

nick said...

here's a facebook group called No Spring Training in Arizona!

type anecdote: I originally spelled group "groom".

I understand the profiling issue......but what are some of the things they could do find illegal immigrants?

Zenslinger said...

And now...the runs!

(pls)

Zenslinger said...

Extra Bases say Geddy Lee is behind the plate. Er, in the seats behind home plate.

nick said...

I'm not sure I understand your question 9casey. could you rephrase it?

One of the components of the law allows them to arrest legal residents (native-born or otherwise) who are unable to provide documentation at the time of their status.

nick said...

Geddy Lee behind the plate! What a, ah, rush.

SALESMEN!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand the law , and it does seem a bit over the top....I am just wondering what else can officials do to find illegal immigrants, and not be so intrusive. Is there anything, or do we wait till they committ a crime or are ratted out by somebody?

Zenslinger said...

I'll be seein' them this summer. From a cheap seat.

9casey said...

Hey RS. I see one slipped on by ya...

allan said...

yooooooooooooook

allan said...

If it truly wanted to do so, the US could slow illegal immigrants from crossing any border to 0 (or under 5 anyway) every year.

We can't even keep you out......:)

allan said...

that is a price you pay living in a "free society" - people are going to do bad things before you can arrest them.

allan said...

But I'm a citizen!

Zenslinger said...

Does everyone know the dumb Rush fan fact about how Geddy got his name?

nick said...

We can't even keep you out......:)

:-) (I think I prefer an emoticon there to typing "lol".)

allan said...

Also! We are taking our tests for Canadian citizenship on May 27! Got the scheduling notices this week. (I am overly worried about failing, while L passes!)

meunier said...

Announcer just called the Sox the Redskins lol

allan said...

This non-Rush fan doesn't know. I figured that was his actual name.

Zenslinger said...

His name was Gary. His Yiddish-speaking grandmother couldn't pronounce the name. When she said his name, it sounded like "Geddy".

allan said...

What about his voice? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy.

nick said...

redsock said...

But I'm a citizen!

I'm sure there must be a way to keep you out still. Maybe the next time you're in Arizona I'll put a Secretly Canadian sticker on your back. "Let me see your ID"

meunier said...

My voice sounds like Geddy Lee, seriously.

Zenslinger said...

His voice is not that high any more. Nutty Rush fans will never let you forget that his vocals have slipped some, although there are of course those who like it better that way.

google the last sentence in that post about his voice.

Amy said...

Darnell!

allan said...

that's a 'wave i like.

Zenslinger said...

Oh. Right. That did ring a faint bell that someone had a thing asking about his voice like that, but I thought it was a comedy bit.

Zenslinger said...

Yay. We can't be at the mercy of one little slip o' th' bullpen.

nick said...

In my college days in the first 1/2 of the 90s I had friends who were mad into Pavement, but I've never gotten into them...or Guided By Voices. They're together in my mental reservoirs.

nick said...

Not that that speaks negatively of either band, fwiw.

lester been alright tonight, huh?

1 hit allowed thru 7 -- and only 2 of 21 outs hit out of the infield.

Amy said...

Nice! Bard is poetic.

allan said...

bard joins the klan.

nick said...

has Remy never heard of "defensive indifference"? granted, I've never really understood it either, but...

Amy said...

He said it was the wrong call. It did seem odd to me also.

meunier said...

Drew can't hit for me in MLB 2K10 either.

nick said...

given that it exists and I haven't read the actual rule, that did seam like a steal to me.

Remy's wording/tone was odd to me though. It didn't sound like he was just questioning the call, but the existence of the rule. I mean, I'm sure he knows it, but it just sounded odd to me.

nick said...

I blame the pants.

Edward Lee said...

Varitek, graceful as an elephant ballerina.

Amy said...

I thought he just sounded bewildered.

Amy said...

Tek was more graceful with the high socks.

Amy said...

Going to close my eyes til the bottom of the ninth is over.

allan said...

Amy: Grab some Tums.

nick said...

bewildered is a good word for it. It was just how I heard his bewilderment.

I'm running late for radioland. later.

Rob said...

David Aaaaaaaaardsma has 7 saves and is leading the league? Why can't we get guys like that!

Amy said...

Allan, I need xanax, not Tums.
