Voting in the Canadian Blog Awards is over -- and I believe The Joy of Sox hung on to win "Best Sports Blog" by 12 votes -- 685-673!
(The official results will not be announced until Sunday at 9 PM, but I am 99.7% sure we did it.)
That push during the last half-hour was the difference. After I posted the update, JoS went on a 19-8 run. Thanks to all the night owls and people in far away time zones. The voting was never actually tied. If it had been, I'd have had no idea who pulled ahead.
Good work, Jere!
Slight edits to reflect my lack of total certainty.

Thanks!
Refreshing the total right after voting (very late at night) can tell you where your vote went. That's how I'm sure JoS took the gold.
I blew a 100 vote lead today, somehow. Battle of Alberta finished #2 -- not sure what they did to get so many votes so fast, but the race got down to 1 vote before JoS's late sprint.
Congrats, Redsock!! JoS really is superior. Reduces the others to fanboy drivel.
Um, folks, your congratulations - and Redsock's announcement - are premature. We haven't seen results.
Takes a lot of chutzpah to announce results before you know them.
(A Bush nephew called me with the news.)
I do feel a wee bit nervous -- I think it was the closest race of all the categories -- but I was tracking it very closely.
Jere says Alberta (#2) thinks they took the lead at one point, but I don't think they did. (They thought they were chasing RaptorBlog, too.)
YAY! Congrats...and you're right...Jere was doing so much. I voted, early and often...take care guys...I love ya!

Next time you speak with him, I have a few questions for him to pass along.

By the way, if you don't win, this is still the best sports blog in Canada.
It's amazing how many people actually voted who read but choose not to comment when they visit..
That says alot, I don't really know what it says but I think its a lot.
9casey, I wish there were more commenters here also (though not as many as a place like Surviving Grady gets, where there are often 300+ comments per post), but what can you do?
I have to remember that there are many blogs I read regularly, ones that are very informative, well-written and thought-provoking -- and I never comment. But I would gladly vote for them for an award.
So it's not so strange, I guess.
Redsock , I was actually giving you a compliment in my east coast backhanded kind of way....
And being a commenter sometimes takes moxie....you have to have some thick skin if you say something and aren't ready for the respones you may get..
That is also a compliment on the knowledge and writing abilty of the people who post......even though sometimes the poems keep me scratching my head...
Good job ....

I know. I was only saying that I take that same position with many of the blogs I read. I'm not really much of a commenter when it comes to blogs.

Well, you have to be able to back up what you're saying to some degree. That's all. And disagreement -- even a strong disagreement -- should not be taken as a personal insult.
There are topics (Sox or non-Sox) on which Jack and I (for example) could not possibly be further apart and others where we agree 100%. That's the way it goes.
Everyone here is civil, I think, and I want to keep it that way. I've deleted posts, but they have almost all been from trolls passing through. No regular commenter has had a post zapped.
That is also a compliment on the knowledge and writing abilty of the people who post.
Thanks. Maybe the more serious, reportery tone attracts people looking for the same thing. But there are also plenty of silly posts/comments too.
