Josh Beckett had his valuable right elbow examined Friday morning by noted orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, and the results of those tests were "awesome," said manager Terry Francona. And the Globe has video of Tito.
"Everything came out completely structurally sound," Francona said Friday afternoon. "There was some inflammation. They did a number of tests and he came out with flying colors. That was awesome for us."
Beckett is expected to rejoin the team at some point Friday night and ... could make his next start in a week, on Sept. 5 in Texas ...

Steven Krasner, Providence Journal:
The Red Sox announced moments ago that Josh Beckett is suffering from a strained right elbow and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 18.Not. Good. At. All.
To replace him, the Sox have purchased the contract of Pawtucket catcher David Ross, whom they signed to a minor-league deal last week. They will need to make a corresponding move to clear a spot on the 40-player roster for Ross.

Ugh.
The news on Josh Beckett is becoming a little clearer. Beckett visited with Dr. James Andrews today and tests on his right elbow all came back clean, according to Terry Francona. If all goes well, Francona said he expects Beckett to be back to start the first game of the Rangers series, which is Friday in Texas.
"If he doesn’t come through [get a clean bill of health], we'll try something else," Francona said on the chance of Beckett starting Friday.
GOOD NEWS! RIGHT??
So he could come off on Tuesday, why retroactive.if they think this isn't long term........
Yeah, I think they think he is ready to go.....
McCain , interesting choice....
She's a firecracker.
Red Sox are still interested in Brian Fuentes, but Rosenthal writes the Rockies "cannot" deal him by the deadline.
Which would be true if he doesn't clear waivers, obviously.
White Sox and Red Sox scouts were also at Astros/Reds game last night - Oswalt started, but he shouldn't be traded... Couple of Reds guys that are interesting would be David Weathers and Jeremy Affeldt.
interesting choice

Fuentes is on the bereavement list, which basically cancels waivers.
Jay Mariotti resigned at the Sun Times and everyone -- from Ozzie to Robert Ebert to the paper itself, which is actually selling subscriptions by saying he's finally gone! -- rips him a new one.
MAN O MAN!
I wonder who will replace him on "Around the Horn"
RS THATS HLARIOUS!
"AWESOME"
Ah, thanks for that link. Takes a lot of worry out of things. He'll be all right. They're just playing it safe with him and not letting the playoff race panic them, like last year.
Smart, smart, smart.
I'm still concerned.
A three-some of Lester, Dice and Wake *could* get us all the way, but I would not count on it very heavily.
im concerned, but not as much as i was yesterday. hearing beckett talk about how much andrews' words of confirmation mean to him, im sure this changes his psyche for rest of the season. now he KNOWS its clean, and as Eck said yesterday, once you get that confirmation, you can air it out when pitching instead of having that lingering question.
DONT FORGET BYRD! (kidding)
ok, i take back my ugh.
She's a firecracker.
Next you'll be calling Obama uppity.
Very sexist, demeaning word. She's a governor, not a cheerleader.

Hey, if you go for the wingnut types...
Nix, I beg you, my friend:
PLEASE MAKE MICHAEL KAY GO AWAY!!!!
FOR l-girl
Other than news beckett's making his next start, that's about as good news as we could ask for. That is, of course, if nothing changes.
Nix, I clicked, but I'm not going to watch it!
