Glad to be back! Thanks for everyone's well wishes. It sucks driving 17 hours or so over two days, but I'm really glad I made the trip.

Cool avatar! L told me to look out for it. He looks scarier when you look at the smaller version in the thread.

Joe, no rush. We have all week to work it out.

Joe will be the 2nd gamethreader to visit Chez L-Sock. And the 3rd JoS reader we've met. (Not counting old friends.)

By the way, yesterday was Babe and Elvis Death Day.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Death Day. I once had a supervisor who was an insane Elvis fanatic, and Death Day was her birthday.

She was also an insane racist, but that's another story.

Yup. When you have MLB Audio, you have to be careful not to refresh the thread too often, and ignore GDGD completely.

At least it ended in a zero.

I am not too upset about this game. Then again, I am sober.

I did speculate during that horrific 19-17 game that although we would make the playoffs, I wasn't sure I could see us going to the Series this year. It always takes a certain amount of luck, but with this pitching staff...I dunno.

But, things change. Maybe everything will just start hitting on all cylinders in late September. And it's not like we've played badly overall.

nixon33 said...

PLEASE. SCORE. AT. LEAST. ONE. RUN. PLEASE!

nixon33 said...

YAY!

laura k said...

Our pitching is certainly not championship caliber. But anything can happen in the playoffs. All we have to do is get there.

It's 12 complete games!. There is a bonus DVD, but I cannot recall what is on it, exept for a segment on O-Cab's handshakes. Probably locker room craziness too.

I can check it out when I get home, if you like.

laura k said...

omg this game sucks

nixon33 said...

hey thanks redsock! you answered my question. i just wanted to make sure they didnt fuck you on the dvds with only highlights from each game.
perfect. they are like $50 on ebay, sealed. pretty good deal. i was listening to some old interviews after that series, and i heard a tiny snippet of tore saying "if nixon doesnt catch that ball, we win the series". i cant remember what friggin catch he's talking about. can anyone remind me?

Honestly, he often starts out that way. This is a troll who posed as an admiring female reader for weeks before revealing himself. (I.e. he's insane.)

Yoooooook begins the comeback!

allan said...

Chris Berman is an utter idiot.

ALDS 1
During Game 1, Berman noted that Bellhorn had set a new Red Sox single-season record for strikeouts, breaking Butch Hobson's old record, which had been set (he said) "in the mid-80s." ... Actually, Hobson set the record (162 K) in 1977. And his last major league game was on August 3, 1982, as a member of the Yankees. ...

ALDS 2
Berman repeated the Hobson "mid-80s" "factoid" during Game 2.

ALDS 3
Re Bellhorn: Chris Berman again mentions Bellhorn breaking the Sox season strikeout record and says Butch Hobson set the record "in 1985". As I pointed out in an earlier post, Hobson's last major league game was in 1982 (his last game for the Red Sox was in 1980.) This is clearly the most important tidbit ESPN has on Bellhorn, so it's amazing that Berman gets it so wrong every single time. ... Berman also butchers the nickname Johnny Damon has given the team. They are known far and wide as "The Idiots," but Berman consistently refers to them as either "The Happy Idiots" or "The Traveling Idiots.")

Allan and I were at those games. It was brutal.

All the gloom-and-doomers were out in full force. We were getting in arguments with people on the thread who were jumping ship. I recall one guy in particular, he said he was through with the whole season - AND WE WERE STILL IN 1ST PLACE.

Last year we were in first place from mid-April until the end. Every single day.

Nah, I think we were just bored.

Rob said...

Half-game ahead in the wild card to Chicago/Minnesota. Brings up an interesting dilemma. If Minnesota pulls away by a couple games in the Central, do you root for the White Sox to win this weekend against Tampa Bay still?

Amy said...

I hate that you are talking about the WC like we have given up on the Division.

laura k said...

I never get the "who to root for" dilemma. Root for whoever you want - it's not like it makes any difference in the outcome.

I've given up on the division. I'll be thrilled to be wrong, but I'll also be very happy to get the wild card.

laura k said...

Does the intense nostalgia for 2004 reveal some doubts about the rest of this season?

I think it reveals our utter fascination and undying love for the Greatest Postseason Ever.

Amy: I hate that you are talking about the WC like we have given up on the Division.

I have not given up. No fucking way. With 6+ weeks left, WC is loser talk. Who the hell has given up?

Oh. .........

I'll be thrilled to be wrong ...

Then thrilled you shall be.
