G140: Red Sox 9, Rays 1 (6)

Rays - 000 010 - 1 4 0
Red Sox - 008 10x - 9 8 0
11:54 PM: The water is Muddy!!!

10:59 PM: Rain delay in the top of the sixth. (The start of the game was delayed 2:05.)

The Red Sox sent 12 men to the plate in the third: Gonzalez single, Ellsbury F8, Pedroia single, Martinez single (1-0), Youkilis single (2-0), Ortiz single (3-0), Bay BB, Drew (wild pitch, 4-0) BBI, Varitek P5, Gonzalez double (7-0), Ellsbury single (8-0) Pedroia (Ellsbury SB #61) 3-1. Yook hit a solo dong in the fourth.

Beckett: 5-4-1-1-4, 78.

The Orioles beat the Yankees 7-3 and the Mariners beat the Rangers 8-3, so Boston is 7.5 GB in the East and 3 GA in the WC.
Example
Wade Davis (1.29, 354 ERA+) / Josh Beckett (3.87, 122 ERA+)

Davis is making his second major league start. In his ML debut on September 6, he had a 7-3-1-1-9, 105 line against the Tigers in Tampa. He left with a 3-1 lead, but the Rays pen allowed four runs in the ninth and Detroit won 5-3.

Over his last five starts, Beckett has a 7.76 ERA. Batters are slugging .617 against Beckett over those 31.1 innings, with 12 dongs. By comparsion, only Albert Pujols has a slugging percentage over .598. Beckett's last start -- Monday, in Chicago -- was the first time since August 7 that he did not allow at least 2 home runs.
Example
And: Orioles/Yankees at 1 and Mariners/Rangers at 8. The lowly Orioles routed the Yankees last night 10-4, so Boston is 8.5 GB. Texas was rained out, so the Red Sox remain 2 GA in the WC.

That's some good shit right there.

You should probably note where this comment is so when it comes to pass, you can link to it and say "Nostradamus? That fucker ain't got nothin' on me, bitches!"

Tim is a genius. I am ready.

nick said...

You know much that is hidden, o Tim!

tim said...

If Colorado keeps up the torr-id-alba pace they're on, we might be sweeping them in October again.

tim said...

The only unfortunate part of my plan involves the Yankees winning a playoff series.

As sweet as beating them in October is, they've shown some trouble recently in the first round. I'll try to keep the midges at bay this year.

tim said...

Well that's a WRAP!

Baltimore "Anyone can beat the" Orioles - 7

New York "Already crowned 2009 champs" Yankees - 3

Step 1 of the plan is progressing handsomely. We've picked up a game by doing nothing.

tim said...

Ugh. Looking at the projected radar this is gonna be a long night.

Clear now, but that green crap goes thru boston from 6-9 then maybe it will be fine. O well, wait and see... Maybe we can do a triple-header tomorrow.

BRS: "The Fenway Park gates will open at the regularly scheduled time of 5:10 p.m., and the Red Sox are hopeful that tonight’s game with Tampa Bay, which is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., will be played. However, the Red Sox want to alert our fans to the current forecast and to the possibility of delay."

allan said...

Start delayed by rain.

allan said...

SoSHer GreenMountain, 7:36:
"Not raining at Fenway. Nasty looking mass of rain just offshore, but moving very slowly. If they wait until it passes the game will not start until 10 or so. Looks like they are gun shy after last night."

***

I'm quite busy at work, so a 10 PM start would be fine. And a 1 AM start would be even better -- because I'll be home!!

allan said...

SoSH, 8:10 PM:
"They just announced here at the park that they expect 30 minutes worth of rain to pass through "shortly" and then they'll play..."

tim said...

This reminds me of the weekend we were in Boston last year. Fuckin' rain.

allan said...

Globe:
"The game will start at roughly 9:05 p.m. Josh Beckett vs. Wade Davis. But, as the tarp is being taken off the field, it just started to rain again, and quite hard. Hopefully it's going to pass quickly. We'll keep you updated as best we can. Beckett is receiving loud cheers as he jogs in the outfield."

allan said...

Revised start: 9:15

laura k said...

Damn, a west coast game on a work night. I won't see much.

allan said...

GAME ON!

And Beckett has an OTT on 8 pitches.

laura k said...

Go Josh.

Go (home) Laura.

allan said...

Davis walks Yook and Flo to start the Sox 2nd.

tim said...

Me, earlier: Clear now, but that green crap goes thru boston from 6-9 then maybe it will be fine.

mattymatty said...

mmm... sweaty dong...

mattymatty said...

I think the Rays best strategy now would be to make as many pitching changes as possible in the hopes that the rain picks up and eventually causes the game to be canceled.

allan said...

So:

BAL - 060 000 001 - 7 10 1
MFY - 100 000 002 - 3 7 0

Beckett, 5-inning CG: "As Curt Schilling would say, it’s the only time you can throw 5 innings w/out feeling like you kissed your sister.”

Our cable company exploded last night - at least, that's what I thought happened, because EVERYONE they served lost cable and internets last night. So no game for me. Checked in via radio once in a while.
