Meuniermr, cool, enjoy! IIRC, you are a long way from home.

I just saw the NYY score. There's still time for the birds to get the sweep.

tim said...

Yeah man, enjoy the game. Should be a good one if Lester doesn't mimic Friday Jon.

Cool link, Allan. Listening now!

tim said...

OTT all around.

laura k said...

Does anyone have MLB audio? Mine's not working, don't know if it's my system or not.

s1c said...

l-girl I do not have it on this flash 4 computer so cannot help (and B-fly just signed off fb to go to supper so I can't ask her).

allan said...

I can get audio.

allan said...

I switched over and the very first (and only) thing I heard was:

"1-800-54-Giant"

!

tim said...

Is it me or are they whisking through this game? Seems to be less commercials and crap.

s1c said...

It is you tim, it is the power of the spinach.

tim said...

Good ol NESN fucking things up. Heidi introduced some interview with fkr pitching coach about shields struggles @ fenway, interview that ran was actually about garza.

laura k said...

Thanks guys. I have nothing! I'll reboot the whole damn thing, maybe that will help.

allan said...

Florida Evans!

tim said...

Wicked Lester is wicked.

Unknown said...

Sit, sit, and sit.

allan said...

After moving the time of their first game from 1:35 to 5:00, Rangers are still delayed by wet grounds.

laura k said...

Reboot, jump up and down three times, click my heels together... and finally! Sound.

s1c said...

If you had said it didn't work I was going to suggest clicking the ruby slippers ;)

laura k said...

Good thing it worked, I'm only wearing sneakers.

oh goody - loaded for duh cactus.

laura k said...

Cactus with the bases loaded? Hey, stranger things have happened.

Once or twice, anyway.

laura k said...

Squanderrific.

Unknown said...

Magic cactus, do something useful

allan said...

why in the fuck would you swing at shit like that? tapping to the pitcher or 1b is the best you can do with that shit.

Unknown said...

Or just ground out...

laura k said...

OK Allan, start typing. OB & Castig are talking about Pedro - OB watched Petey dominating the Devil Rays, the 1-hitter where Gerald Williams charged the mound. Castig called Pedro "the Sandy Koufax of his day".

allan said...

what is their email again?

s1c said...

Naw Koufax was better

s1c said...

j/k

allan said...

j/k

you should have waited about an hour to add this.

allan said...

we have some good starting pitchers.

Rob said...

I just saw an incredible stat on the Dodgers/Giants game on TBS.

The key NL acquisitions via trades and such...

Pedro
John Smoltz
Vincente Padilla
Brad Penny
Jon Garland
Cliff Lee
Jose Contreras

I forget if there was anyone else, but combined since the changed teams (or signed), they are 18-3 with a 2.86 ERA. Incredible.

Zenslinger said...

Smoltz's first two starts were stellar. His last two were mediocre, and supposedly he will miss his next.

Brad Penny's just given up his first couple of runs in the second vs. LAD. Giants have the game in hand, 7-2, but it's probably not going to be enough to get the Giants the WC. We'd need Colorado to just lie down & die.

I'd like to go down to the Bar to watch some of the Sox game, but I can hear from here that the Bar is full of NY Giants fans. The screams when they score are identifiable by loudness and the quality of the screaming (Saturday morning Wisconsin football fans there can be just as loud, but sound a little more human).

laura k said...

what is their email again?

It was the Jays booth you asked for last time.

laura k said...

you should have waited about an hour to add this.

And risk getting banned?

s1c said...

s1c said...

oh geez louise can you swing at a strike just once today cactus.

s1c said...

thank go for lousy defense.

allan said...

hmmm,. mlbtv is on a fritz. it's showing tek with a 2-run single. ... i'll just put down "K" in my scorecard.

s1c said...

Bad hop at first base, but still should have been handled.

Rob said...

Okay what's this about j/k and getting banned?

I feel like someone just told a joke and I only heard the punch line.

"Eh?? I don't get it!"

Unknown said...

Wait...did the Cactus actually get a clutch hit that inning?!

I need to get distracted when he's batting more frequently.

Zenslinger said...

Inappropriate Degree of Veneration for Sandy Koufax, I believe.

allan said...

man o man am i tired of hearing

"HEY UMP"

laura k said...

hmmm,. mlbtv is on a fritz. it's showing tek with a 2-run single. ... i'll just put down "K" in my scorecard.

:>)

Ish, it has to do with Allan's adoration of Pedro. Scroll up to my comment re radio babble.

allan said...

More an Inappropriate Degree of De-Veneration for Pedro Martinez.

Rob said...

My sister and her boyfriend were at the gas station today, saw a co-worker who was getting gas and told them he had a pair of tickets to this game and he couldn't go. Asked if they wanted to go. So they did.

And they're sitting four rows behind the Red Sox dugout.

Zenslinger said...

Ish: that's awesome.

s1c said...

Of course if you were to ask Pedro he'd say "Put him in the batters box and I'll hit him in the butt".

allan said...

ob and castig say they get emails.
anyone have the address?

isn't it redsoxbooth@something?

allan said...

wow, ish.

bard up.

laura k said...

More an Inappropriate Degree of De-Veneration for Pedro Martinez.

True. But I posted it b/c of your (well justified) adoration.

Rob said...

Got it!

I can't wait to see Pedro pitch tonight.

With the Three ESPN Goons on mute, of course.

s1c said...

Sock, probably @wrko.com

Rob said...

It's too bad that they don't watch the Red Sox or care as much as others might. Cause, ya know... SOME of US might like going a little bit more. :>)

But I'm not complaining. I've already been to Fenway this year.

My sister said, "I'll try to get you a ball or something." Like everyone behind the dugout gets a baseball. Right.

Rob said...

And it would be Soxbooth.

allan said...

i found it - no thanks to any of you.

soxbooth@weei.com

Rob said...

it's... soxbooth@weei.com

But I don't think you'll get O'B & Castig. Probably get Jon Rish.

allan said...

oh - okay, some of you helped. belatedly. (and wrongly). but you helped!

Rob said...

Hey, get it right. I helped belately. The rest of them helped wrongly.

laura k said...

soxbooth @ i don't know what, maybe wrko.com

allan said...

did i mention i got a foul ball on wednesday night? because i did. get a foul ball. at an actual game.

Rob said...

Castig: "He's going to appeal to Lance Barksdale and say it hit his foot."

O'B: "And yes, he agrees! He's going to be hit by the pitch!"

Um, he was already hit by the pitch!

We can all be morons sometimes.

laura k said...

oops, i'm late on that. stupid lawyers.

allan said...

i was thinking. koufax would make a solid #4 on our staff.

Amy said...

Hi, everyone! I am finally back on a thread after what seems like forever. Of course, it is the bottom of the seventh, but it feels nice to catch a few innings with you all. We were gone all weekend at a family bat mitzvah, and I was too busy last week to watch and thread, so I just watched while unpacking.

Amy said...

Congrats on the foul ball, Allan. Of course, we would be more excited for you if you had gotten it at a major league game.

s1c said...

And Drew continues his 1.000 OBP for the night.

allan said...

i gotta start small. in another 35 years or so, maybe i can get a MLB ball.

s1c said...

They're reading an email now, but it's not Allan's.

Now calls him "the Blogger Allan Wood" - and they're reading it.

YAY!

Rob said...

VERY COOL!!!

laura k said...

He's reading the whole thing and he's agreeing with you. He says "he makes a great point and I would agree".

Yee-hah! 1918 free promo!!!

Rob said...

I'm beaming right now.

I'm sitting here and I'm like, "I KNOW THAT GUY!"

I didn't even know what your email was about, except for the Koufax/Pedro thing. But I didn't know in depth what you wrote so it was fascinating to hear... from Castig's voice! Very neat.

s1c said...

Oh, yeah, he dropped the F-bomb and maybe even the MF bomb. Bye Bye

allan said...

This is what I sent (notice how I lie int he first sentence):

Joe:

I heard you refer to Pedro as "the Koufax of his day" during the second game tonight.

While their raw numbers look similar, Koukax pitched from a higher mound (in a pitcher's park (LA)) and at a time when the rule book strike zone was enforced. Pedro's home park favoured hitters and he worked in one of the highest offensive eras in the game's history. With no disrespect to Koufax, Martinez leaves him in the dust.

Check out these posts:
http://joyofsox.blogspot.com/2006/06/el-rey.html
http://joyofsox.blogspot.com/2007/03/matsuzaka-santana-koufax-pedro.html

On the all-time ERA+ list, Pedro has the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 25th and 39th best seasons.

The only pitchers in history who can touch him are (in order) Walter Johnson (5th, 10th, 22nd (twice)), Roger Clemens (12th, 16th, 27th), Greg Maddux (4th, 5th, 50th (twice)), and Christy Mathewson (11th, 15th). That's it. ... Sandy Koufax posted the 56th and 70th best ERA+ seasons.

[ERA+: The ratio of the league's ERA, adjusted to the pitcher's ballpark, to that of the pitcher (above 100 is above average, below 100 is below average). It is good for comparing pitchers from different ERAs.]

Reminds me of an old post:

10.24.2004
The Naked Truth. If the Red Sox win the World Series, Johnny Pesky says he's "gonna take off all my clothes and run around the ballpark. Then I can die happy. Not that I'm going to die. I mean, I am going to die. But not soon." ... This will give new meaning to Pesky's pole.

laura k said...

Stupid lawyers, made me miss a dong.

Someone just emailed me to say Allan was mentioned on the radio. But the email address is a phone number. No idea who it was.

laura k said...

It was Andy!

laura k said...

Thanks for tipping me off, L!

You know, when I said "start typing," I was kidding. If I thought you were going to email, I would have given you the address right away.

Great book plug. Too bad he didn't mention Joy of Sox, but he did say "the blogger Allan Wood".

laura k said...

did they mention jos?

Not by name.

it's a good think i never sent any dfw-length screeds against castig's college sports fetish or o'brien's embrace of the gloom -- they'd have set their mailbox to dump any future mail straight in the trash!

Wow, what a day!

Ummmmm......I mean ;>
I assume you're home from work and searching for audio by now.

Rob said...

Holy crap!!

I watched Pedro pitch all 7 scoreless innings, 107 pitches... 5 hits, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts... Then I stopped paying attention because I thought there was NO WAY he'd throw another pitch.

But I was WRONG! He threw one more inning! Ended the night having thrown 130 pitches!!!!!

8-6-0-2-7, 130/80

Pedro - 8 innings of shutout ball tonight. 6 hits but no runs. 2 walks and 7 Ks.
