thank you allan. "i did not know that."

Definitely wouldn't call bobby kielty part of anybody's "meaty third"

that is begging for a comeback, but i will control myself

here we go, meat and dong used in the comment.

Jere said...

That's a strike. Should be 0-1. terrible job ump

Jere said...

Nice catch, Wake!!!!

allan said...

I was going to suggest that we spot the CWS a run and then go to town with the bats as we did yesterday, but I'm not sure that's a good idea today. Better just toss a shutout.

... I wonder how many dongs Ross Gload has?

laura k said...

The geniuses at Miller High Life with their "We don't want to sell you our product" marketing campaign.

The anti-advertising. There's a whole strain of ads like that.

Remember those subway ads with a network telling you how stupid it was to watch tv? Wow, irony, that will make me turn on your dumbass shows!

Mike L said...

wow-that was nice

Mike L said...

i don't suppose anyone has fly ball/ground ball splits on wake today? he's gotta be 80% in the air

laura k said...

... I wonder how many dongs Ross Gload has?

His name alone gives me an involuntary ewwww face.

laura k said...

i wish i could see this game. i love pitching duels.

Jere said...

Bunt attempt, popped between thrid and home, Wake sprints over, catches it as Cash goes sliding below him. No collision=key.

Another K for Wake, and we're out of another inning. A Hamilton-Burr.

allan said...

Nice. Pop bunt along third base line. Cash runs after it and dives along the line. Wake's off the mound and he gloves it as he crosses the foul line while doing a little hop over the prone Cash.

Jere said...

essactly

laura k said...

thanks guys! nice stereo vision there.

Jere said...

gameday gives the air/ground stats in real time. Minus the delay.

6-6 with 3 K for Burly.

Jere said...

Mike L said...

ok-thanks for the heads up and the info-appreciate it

nice wheels dusty!

Jere said...

deep in hole, one hop throw, Uribe did all he could

laura k said...

maybe we should try

MARK BUEHRLE IS PITCHING A ONE-HITTER!

Jere said...

that worked!

laura k said...

it worked!

allan said...

Wake outs:

1: F8 F8 F8
2: F8 P3 L7
3: 53 3U K
4: L9 K K
5: F8 P1 K

laura k said...

ok, let's work on that shut-out now

allan said...

maybe today it's the 3rd time thru

laura k said...

one thing that's great about this game thread, if you ask "i don't suppose anyone has ... ", someone always has it.

allan said...

hey burlee - that ain't lugo - you ain't gnona pick him off.

Jere said...

how was there just a chart of rookie batting averages since 1950 without Boggs? Or did I miss something in that stat?

Jim said...

Yeah, Burly. Castig said an inning ago the Buehrle wasn't burly, so yeah, he's Burly. Now pound him.

laura k said...

ok i'm gonna be gone for 5 mins, when i come back i want a different score

nixon33 said...

come on papi

allan said...

what a fucking horseshit bunt attempt.

allan said...

Buehrle wants to see the doctor.

Jere said...

redsock (or anyone), do you remember when they used to call good numbers w/the bases loaded "Tablerian," after Pat Tabler?

allan said...

Boogs hit .349 his rookie year.

Jere said...

1-0 us! nice lowell

nixon33 said...

THE DOCTAH!

allan said...

That's my Rx, bitch!

laura k said...

yeah, it worked!! gotta get caught up on how it happened...

Jere said...

right, and they showed what I thought was the top rookie averages since 1950, going down to Dustin's .320, with no Boggs. Maybe it was 2Bmen only.

Yoooook! 2-0 us. L-girl, stay away for a few more minutes:)))

nixon33 said...

youk.

allan said...

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

L should be pleased.

We need more.

laura k said...

sorry :)

i was here for the yoooook

Jere said...

same spot 3 times in a row! terrible cutoff by White Sox, 4-0!

nixon33 said...

cme on kielty.....show us yr meat dong!

Mike L said...

mike lowell is my hero...that was great

laura k said...

well of course i am pleased :)

you missed where i came back and said "it worked" - 1-0

SoSock said...

WOW - I'm in!
What an act of congress that took.
So I'm trying to watch the game in NC but Fox seems to think we would like the Mets here.
Stuck watching Gameday again :(
Go Mike! :)

Jere said...

terrible by the outfielder AND the cutoff man on that play!

allan said...

Lowell with the hustle and Pete Rose slide across the plate as Gonzalez is napping in LF.

laura k said...

hi sosock :)

it seems like half of us here today only have gameday.

Jere said...

Holy crap. Nice running by Lowell on that replay. That was a weird play.

allan said...

sosock -- you made it!!!!

laura k said...

batting around!

laura k said...

nice running by lowell??!! that's not something you hear every day.

SoSock said...

Maybe Fox just assumes we're all Braves fans so we naturally hate the Mets and so are interested

Jere said...

That last play: Grounder through hole on left side. One run scores. Left fielder dicks around instead of getting ball in. Lowell had stopped at third and had turned around, facing left. He sees the dicking and sprints for home. Guy throws in. Cutoff man cuts it off and holds it, when either a throw from him OR the outfielder all the way home would've had Lowell. With catcher waving arms. That was crazy.

allan said...

So Buehrle's in trouble. 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and at 79 pitches in the 6th. Ozzie comes out and leaves him for:

BBI
1B, run
1B, run
1B, 2 runs
4-3
BB
FC

Idiot.

laura k said...

that sounds like too much thinking for fox

Jere said...

no way, the Braves are our "natural rival"!

laura k said...

thanks jere, cool

allan said...

So the first guy to bat against Wake singled. Since then, just 3 BB.

laura k said...

no way, the Braves are our "natural rival"

argh!

Jere said...

This is perfect. Wake pitching great, but the one hit takes the "no hitter" pressure out of the way.

laura k said...

wake's last start was great too

allan said...

Sit down Palphabet!!!

Jere said...

I knew what that was gonna link to! Nice. Still can't believe people were SO against signing that petition...

SoSock said...

Thanks for the pbp Jere. I guess there's a reason they're 56 - 72

Jere said...

Manny with the type of catch he makes. Uh-oh--announcer says "hold your breath" and makes fun of his route to ball--which was totally normal.

allan said...

MANNY ---> has a glove!

laura k said...

petition, yeah, i know!

i gave up trying to promote it, it was just a time-killer. every place i posted it, i got 2-3 sigs, but that's a slow road. oh well.

Jere said...

"Thanks for the pbp Jere. I guess there's a reason they're 56 - 72"

Sure. They did point out it was an infielder playing left, and a young guy cutting the ball off.

laura k said...

now i'm glad i don't have tv.

MUMS

that's in the glossary, isn't it?

Ofer said...

Wakefield plans on giving Webb a run for his money? 21 consecutive innings without a run.

allan said...

MUMS?

Yes.

laura k said...

what a great few days this has been. we are just croooosing.

allan said...

Almost at 300 comments with the Chokers playing at 7. Looks like another 500 post day!

Jere said...

Way to beat out the infield hit, Coco.

Jere said...

crap. dp. Ortiz out by a step at first. would've liked to see the manufactured insurance run this inning.

SoSock said...

laura k said...

Jere said...

A win today and we're minimum 5 up to start Yanks series. Minimum. So let's win.

SoSock said...

Of course, I can't see it, but that had to be the classic "Unintentional IBB"

laura k said...

If we're 6.5 now, how could we be 5 by Tuesday?

allan said...

1st 3 were outside, 4th a bit high.

allan said...

How about Dr. Dong?

laura k said...

dr dong ?? geez :)

Jere said...

"If we're 6.5 now, how could we be 5 by Tuesday?"

5 minimum if we win. So 7 after this game, then assuming the worst (which I don't!), goes to 6.5 tonight. 5.5 tomorrow. Yanks win Monday for 5.

laura k said...

ah, i forgot (or didn't know) nyy were playing monday.

so what's the most up we can be by tuesday? :)

laura k said...

come on yook....

Jere said...

Two out rally! I smell SEVEN. games up and stuff.

laura k said...

in play, run(s)....

Jere said...

it was a line shot down LF line by Youk, Manny scored easily

Jere said...

9 game lead maximum

allan said...

Most: 9 GA.

Jere said...

So maximun 12 game lead after Yanks series. Minimum 2.

laura k said...

so anywhere from 5 to 9 game lead on tuesday, worst case to best case. verrrry nnnnnnice.

Jere said...

If we hold on today!

laura k said...

i want to bury them!

Jere said...

(And I didn't say, or think, "ie if Gagne doesn't pitch today. I swear.)

laura k said...

If we hold on today!

yeah, we're clinging to a 5-run lead :)

laura k said...

i've stopped worrying about gagne.

last night i heard remy say, "gag" then quickly correct his pronounciation to "gahny..."

Jere said...

gets the pop up. nice.

Ron said...

PDF of the article quoting Redsock and Jere. It's a little rough, but readable.

Enjoy!

laura k said...

wow, thanks chief!

Jere said...

Oh that's right! Girardi's kid is a Sox fan!

Rob said...

Just checking in... (Lunch isn't sitting well with me, heh.) Enjoyable but very quiet game, even with the big 6th. Just motoring along through the game. But hey. Timmy's got himself a 1 hitter going. In line for win #16. Can you believe it? Beckett and Wakefield leading MLB in wins.

Jere said...

Oh my god, they referenced, and imitated Toll Booth Willie.

laura k said...

oh no, look who's on that informational/analytical list...

i shouldn't say any more, no need to be mean.

Rob said...

Heh. After that play with Manny and oCoC, Manny said, "my bad."

Jere said...

This dude just said we "changed around the seating in the right field corner at Fenway." Well, that would be nice, but it hasn't happened yet...

allan said...

Be careful, Laura. Chief's URL has the word "blob" in it.

laura k said...

good thing we don't believe in jinxes, wake's got a 2-hitter now

laura k said...

Be careful, Laura. Chief's URL has the word "blob" in it.

AARRRRGHHHH!!!!

lmao

allan said...

Has Fox shown the pen?

dp pls

Jere said...

Manny not making us forget Yaz in the field, he says. Should at least mention --thanks, Girardi, he's now saying how Manny has a lot of assists to correct the idiot-- his playing the wall at Fenway, which Yaz would be proud of. Oh, now Girardi mentions that. Nice. (As the other guy talks about Manny's "Rastafarian act."

Ofer said...

Come on, Wake, get out of this... preserve the streak.

Jere said...

Not showing---oh, Jeemer up

s1c said...

Showing Jeemer now!

Rob said...

Okajima warming

laura k said...

See, Girardi's ok. He's one of the better announcers.

Jere said...

way to get out of it!!!! Wake rulz

Rob said...

22 straight scoreless innings for Wake, Fox tells me.

Jere said...

Maybe Girardi saves his "good" announcing for the national booth so the Yanks are less likely to want him in the Yes booth and therefore more likely to make him manager...

Ofer said...

K! So Wake now in line for:
- 26th straight decision.
- Second to 16 wins in the season (not to mention who the first one is)
- 22 scoreless innings in a row.

No too bad from your supposed number 4 starter...

Rob said...

I remember a few FOX telecasts that Remy did a couple years back.

Jere said...

What about the Remy 'casts? I remember, too...

Jere said...

The front side of the second step at this field, behind the plate to the left, would like to tell you to fly United.

Rob said...

It was interesting hearing Remy doing the color and trying to do the whole national telecast commentating bit. He did all right.

Ofer said...

Oh, and he's also shed almost .7 off his ERA in three starts.

Jere said...

This Buk'n Vich is hittin' all our guys!

SoSock said...

I'm smelling another KO punch.
BTW - who'd have thought - Wake tied for the lead in the Majors?
Wow

Ofer said...

Back to back HBP's... That's probably pretty rare.

Jim said...

I like Girardi except when he guests in the YES booth, then it's like he's under the same evil spell they put Leiter under. Yankeeganda. Or Yankeeganja.

Rob said...

Pretty rare without benches emptying

laura k said...

I heard Remy's nat'l broadcasts too. Once or twice he said "we" for the Sox, then correceted himself.

allan said...

It must have been killing him to to be able to mention his website -- like the feeling of having a full bladder and it's 50 miles to the next rest stop.

laura k said...

I've never heard Girardi on YES. We haven't put sound on for YES in a long, long time.

So I'm only talking about his natl games.

Rob said...

Yeah Ped!

Jere said...

solid shot by Dustin the Wind. Double.

nixon33 said...

woti- hes acutally pretty contrary to kay on the yes 'casts...as is leiter.

allan said...

The Daily News media guy refers to YES as Yank-Jazeera.

laura k said...

like the feeling of having a full bladder and it's 50 miles to the next rest stop

yeah, like men know that feeling, cause they wait... [eye rolling]

laura k said...

but it's a good metaphor anyway

Jere said...

It's funny how you say "guests on Yes." That is his job, they just have so many announcers, it always feels like somebody's a "guest" in there:)

Jere said...

"The Daily News media guy refers to YES as Yank-Jazeera."

Bob Raissman. A man after my own heart. Or something.

nixon33 said...

bacl to back HRs off el duque for anyone that cares.. mets still leading 3-2
ha

Jere said...

" like the feeling of having a full bladder and it's 50 miles to the next rest stop

yeah, like men know that feeling, cause they wait... [eye rolling]"

They did just show a Flomax ad on Fox!

Ofer said...

Ah, I wish I could watch this game... You know, it's funny. Ever since I came to the States (almost three months ago) I get to watch much less baseball than I do back home. You'd expect it to be the other way around.

Mike L said...

Coco with an official "long" at-bat...well done

nixon33 said...

ofer...where'd you move from?

Mike L said...

If Papi gets hit, I better see some benches clear...

Jim said...

Yeah, but that's more about getting at Kay personally. They're both still on the Yankees are the greatest, have the greatest fans in world etc etc.

Jere said...

I'd say we've won this series....

SoSock said...

Wow
I love those 9-pitch at-bats
WTG oCoC

allan said...

"The year 1972 found [Doc] Ellis back in the headlines when he was maced by a security guard at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Stadium who wouldn’t let him into the Pirates clubhouse. (After an investigation, the Cincinnati club apologized to Ellis and fired the security guard.)

Another flap ensued in 1973 when he started wearing hair curlers to the ballpark, after Ebony magazine ran a feature on Ellis’ various hair styles. Supposedly an order came from Commissioner Bowie Kuhn’s office to cease and desist wearing curlers on the field.

Perhaps Ellis’ most startling act occurred on May 1, 1974, when he tied a major league record by hitting three batters in a row. In spring training that year, Ellis sensed the Pirates had lost the aggressiveness that drove them to three straight division titles from 1970 to 1972. ...

Ellis single-handedly decided to break the Pirates out of their emotional slump, announcing that "We gonna get down. We gonna do the do. I’m going to hit these motherfuckers."

True to his word, in the first inning of the first regular-season game he pitched against the Reds, Ellis hit leadoff batter Pete Rose in the ribs, then plunked Joe Morgan in the kidney, and loaded the bases by hitting Dan Driessen in the back. Tony Perez, batting cleanup, dodged a succession of Ellis’ pitches to walk and force in a run.

The next hitter was Johnny Bench. "I tried to deck him twice," Ellis recalled. "I threw at his jaw, and he moved. I threw at the back of his head, and he moved."

At this point, Pittsburgh manager Danny Murtaugh removed Ellis from the game. But his strategy worked: the Pirates snapped out of their lethargy to win a division title in 1974, while the Reds failed to win their division for the first time in three years.

**************

Ellis also pitched a no-hitter while on acid.

Ofer said...

Haven't really moved. Just here for a couple of months. But the answer is Israel.

nixon33 said...

giriardi seems a bit embarrassed by the whole yankee homer thing, i always thought.

nixon33 said...

PAPI!

Rob said...

Heh. Ozzie jumps over the dugout fence. Who needs stairs when your team is down 8?

laura k said...

Leiter has no cred afaic when it comes to that. When he played for the Yankees, he said he grew up a Yankees fan in NJ, always wanted to pitch for them. There were reports that he was heartbroken when he was traded, asked if he could keep his jersey.

Then years later, when he went to the Mets, he said he grew up a diehard Mets fan, always dreamed of pitching for them...

Maybe both were true, but it didn't wash for me.

nixon33 said...

how did you watch over there? MLBTV?

laura k said...

Whoa! 8-0!

Hey if anyone just saw the phone commercial with the male-female band, they're called Mates of State and they live in Connecticut. A few years ago they were "my girlfriend's friends." Now they're on the Sox game on national TV. Weird.

Rob said...

Oh boy. National Weather Service is on my radio instead of the game. Big storms coming. :D They're a ways off, but they may make it to the coast. Anybody else here about as big a fan of thunderstorms as they are to the Red Sox?

Jere said...

Single will give us yet another double digit game, Manny.

allan said...

I always wanted to go back and hunt those NYY quotes down. I remember them very well -- when he was traded.

Jere said...

I totally was thinking about how this seems like the type of day with storms, but they're not coming. I am a huge fan. Thanks!

allan said...

16 of last 21 Sox batters have reached base.

Ofer said...

Yeah, MLBtv. And ESPN and Fox Sports when they decided to show the Sox (they show every game against the Yankees, and random big-matchup games)

laura k said...

A few years ago they were "my girlfriend's friends." Now they're on the Sox game on national TV. Weird.

that is weird.

tapped for a phone commercial, that must be a life-changing event.

Rob said...

jere--storms motoring east through central NH right now. Probably too far north for me :(

laura k said...

i love thunderstorms. but one of our dogs gets afraid, so i've grown wary of them for her sake.

i wish i was home, i hate her being sad by herself.

Jim said...

I'm admittedly guilty of the SSS b/c I've probably only heard him on YES 2 or 3 times, but each time Kay has gotten him and whoever the 3rd guy du jour is into Yankee greatness/compare your time with other teams etc. and he laps it up. It's obvious he's serenading the base and it's sickening.

nixon33 said...

i hate that lofton DHL commercial...with the red sox player in the background whos name is ALMOST Matsuzaka

Mike L said...

Also a big thunderstorms fan...except when they interrupt red sox broadcasts. I'm pretty sure Orlando has the 2nd or 3rd highest amount of electriacal activity in the world...1st in U.S. We usually get good storms almost every day in the summer.

laura k said...

I always wanted to go back and hunt those NYY quotes down. I remember them very well -- when he was traded.

cool

Jere said...

"Tapped for a phone commercial, that must be a life-changing event. "

They're road to fame was a little more progressive than that:) This just puts them on that, you know, other level. I guess. They're good people, have a little kid, make some good tunes. (Still, I'd say no to friggin AT&T but I don't have a kid to raise....)

allan said...

PASSEDBALLA

Rob said...

TEN! Yeah doc!

laura k said...

you can tell it's a laugher when the game thread has so little game in it :)

Ofer said...

Wow, what an ugly inning for the W-sox bullpen... two HBPs, two wild pitches. And the knuckleballer with nary a passed ball.

allan said...

Alright, really another wild pitch.

DR. RBI!

nixon33 said...

they just showed the mike lowell running play in my fox neck of the woods...that outfielder sucks! headsup lowell

laura k said...

They're road to fame was a little more progressive than that:)

you misunderstand me. i'm not implying anything about their road to fame. just that being catapulted nationally by an at&t commercial has got to bring some strange stuff w /it. i imagine some good and some bad.

there's nothing wrong with anyone cashing in on their own talents. i wish everyone could.

allan said...

Bukvich had a bad day:

HBP
HBP
2B, 1 run
BB
1B, 2 runs

then both of his inherited runners score.

0 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 2 HBP.

Jere said...

Oh!! You could hear Owens when he hit the wall, he's got the mic on him

Ofer said...

So, what is it now? 18 of 23 reaching base? Crazy

laura k said...

playing the white sox sure is fun

Rob said...

you can tell it's a laugher when the game thread has so little game in it :)

Yeah, we're just talking about stuff, and there happens to be some random ballgame on. GO! GO! GO!

ALMOST!

Talk about a great Red Sox pick-up. Kielty's been tearing it up ever since he got here!

We need a nickname for him. Fro? Flame? Anyone?
