Kielty: 3-for-5, walk, double, 1 run, 4 RBI
Wakefield allowed a single to his first batter, then did not allow another hit until there was one out in the 7th inning (7-3-0-3-6, 112).
We are rolling: 11-3, 10-1, 14-2, ... It's the first time the Red Sox had scored 10+ runs in three consecutive games since July 3-5, 2000 (11-8, 14-4 and 11-8 at Minnesota).

mornin'!
Who was the philosopher someone was talking about in here recently? I didn't know who he was and someone posted a bio. Nix or Cakey, maybe?
Oh, mornin' Jere. Late night???
Congrats in getting a quote in that article. I got my copy yesterday. No quotes from me, but two people mentioned JoS.
I removed the Game Thread poll.
Only 42 people wanted the threads at Threadsox, while 99 said keep them here or had no preference.
I think the ThreadSox board can work -- Cakey did a fantastic job in building it, though I'm not sure if he's going to keep it running -- but the in-game discussions are back at JoS.
Game is blacked out on mlb.tv due to Fox carrying it along with the Dodgers-Mets game.
Unfortunately, my local affiliate is not carrying the Red Sox game, but the other one.
So I'm SOL. Oh well. Maybe I'll have a life today instead.
"Congrats in getting a quote in that article. I got my copy yesterday. No quotes from me, but two people mentioned JoS."
Thanks. Did you see where he specifically put you and I into a category which consisted of just us? "The musings of well-informed fans."
"Unfortunately, my local affiliate is not carrying the Red Sox game, but the other one. "
That was always a killer being out of town. If your Fox didn't choose the Sox game, even all the $ you paid for Extra Innings didn't get you the game. Truly SOL indeed.
Spencer Brown, that sucks, but that's what Gameday is for. I'm at work, so I'll be using it too.
(Although having a life outside of the Red Sox can be fun once in a while.)
Did you see where he specifically put you and I into a category which consisted of just us? "The musings of well-informed fans."
Neat! Although there are a few more than just you two.
"Feels Like 105°F". At least here in Boston area.
So all I got is fraking Gameday?
We'll need some PBP description from those with Faux.
Wang/Bonderman tonight.
yes, pbp pls
"Feels Like 105°F". At least here in Boston area.
Only 27 here.
Of course that's Celsius, but it sounds much cooler.
Looks like I'll have to power up the ol (legit) ExpressVu satellite. They have the Boston networks. I wonder what game my cable provider is carrying - I'll be at my grandparents for dinner later and have to periodically skip out to catch half innings and updates :P
In case you missed it yesterday, a quote from Ozzie Guillen:
"Twelve hours of my life I wasted and I'm never going to get it back."

I snuck that somwhere in the game thread yesterday, but it's one of those quotes that deserves to be posted twice.

Waht article are you guys talking about?
Red Sox Nation 2007 Annual. Lots of bloggers were interviewed for it, though we (at least redsock and I) didn't know what it was for at the time.
spencer brown...
if you have windows media player, go to Here and scroll down to the mlb.tv mosaic. Click the link for "Media Player" and the mlb.tv mosaic will open up in your Windows Media Player. So you will most likely be able to get the Red Sox game... though the picture won't be very good, you'll still be able to watch.
So there's one option.
oh ...Is it viewable online?
95° F / 35° C here in southern Maine. Brutal, but at least it's Summer. The other night it got down to 45°F here.
Certainly ready for some baseball... Maybe we'll have a decent announcing team for the broadcast? (See: Joe Girardi)
9casey: Not sure it's entirely legal... One of the problems with it is you can't control which game you can listen to the audio of. Last night there were 4 games on the mosaic (including the NYY/DET game) but I could only hear the audio from the PIT/HOU game. So if there are issues about that sort of thing (it's sort of a peer-to-peer live-feed type deal) then Gameday it is.
I think 9C was asking about the article that Jere & Allan are in. :)
The other night it got down to 45°F here.
Mmm, sounds great. I can't wait for fall.
ish...thanks for the info .......I was asking jere if the article was available online.......:)
Well, our in-crowd announcer won't be Ken Rosenthal, as he's reporting live from Shea.
Ahh. Heh. My bad. :P
fucking mets game on fox for me....oh well gameday i guess.
oh, uh, I don't know if it's online. Maybe it is to RSN members....
nix , where are you agian?
I will have the privilege of having both games on two different Fox feeds.......
brooklyn
oh, the classic Fox 61 CT and Fox 5 NY...

no shit , where you born there....
nixon33, why don't you go over to Thom's or something?
I'm psyched to get this weekend over with and have an even bigger lead going into the NYY series next week.
I stand ready for troll patrol.
I don't think so. I don't have my copy at work. Maybe Jere can see if a website is listed.
There are a lot of articles in it about Sox fans around the world and a section on Sox bars in the US.
The blog article is pretty short. My impression is that the author turned in something much longer and it got chopped up -- a very common practice.
I went back and looked at his response to the stuff I sent him. Just as I thought:
"I ended up with a lot more material from people than I can use in this article. I'm probably going to try to put together another story, for a different publication, so I can use more of it."
What he asked for was:
"In a general sense, I'm interested in your views of the current state, and future of, Sox blogs and message boards.
On a more specific topic, I'm curious what you think of athletes like Schilling starting their own blogs. Blogs like yours are threats to traditional media -- are blogs like Schilling's threats to not only traditional media, but do they also potentially have a negative impact on fan bloggers? Will blogs like yours be marginalized if a number of players flood the market with their own?"
Unfortunately, what was published didn't really address these topics at all.
Wow, Vin Scully's getting un-young.
yay brooklyn :)
i was born in the north end of boston and lived there up until about 2 years ago.
Whats/Who's Thom?
jere, what prompted the observation of vin scully's age?
i was born in the north end of boston
and don't you forget it!
;-)
Prof Thom's, Red Sox bar over in manhattan. 2nd and 13thish. Quick from Brooklyn....

Who has better Italian food?
Oh, on Fox pre-game, a Vin Scully ad for the official charity of the Dodgers.
It was THAT interview?? You wrote that guy a small book on the topic. Too bad it was mostly (or all) cut.
Who has better Italian food?
my mother.
Does the Riv still show RS games? That's easy from Bklyn too.
"
Who has better Italian food?"
Don't let this be a definitive answer, but the North End's feast is this weekend and I'm not going, but I'm thinking of going all the way down to NYC for when Little Italy does the feast of San Genarro.
The great Italian food in NYC is mostly very expensive. The cheaper restaurants are mostly touristy, not very good.
There are some good inexpensive places, but you have to know where to go.
The food at San Genarro is awful!
Long story about the Riv, the details I'm still unclear on. Last time i went, still Sox game, but half the tvs were on some hockey game.
Thom's has gotten huge for Sox, and is a little closer to BKLN

Is she listed in the Zagat book....
The best Italian I had in New York was at Forlini's
I better go get some caffeine before the game starts.
I don't even eat meat anyway, I just like street fair-ish atmospheres. And canolis!!!!
yeah that food question is so subjective.
Jim, the bartender guy who got the Riv/Sox rolling is somewhere else. Jere might know. (Professor or Pirate or something, maybe.)
Actually, I'm not sure if the Riviera still shows Sox games.
my mother.
Is she listed in the Zagat book....
:-)
the north end feast's sucks now.
the north end is like a brand now.
The atmosphere is great, that's for sure. I used to go when I was a kid, I loved it.
the north end is like a brand now.
god do I ever know what you mean. most of nyc felt that to me before i left. it's so disheartening.
I saw Sox at Riv this season. That's what I was talkin' about before. It's just not AS Sox-y.
Vasgersian and Girardi.
Good. We get what looks like a good announcing team. When can you say that about Fox?
Jere said...

That's beauty of Italian ......you don't need meat......but I still get it.....
Reading over my email to him, I did not write a novella, as I remembered. Some general stuff on blogs (which reads quite well!) and Schilling/media comments.
A little bit:
"To be able to read the thoughts of one of your team's best pitchers as he reflects on his start only a few hours after he walked off the mound -- to have him go into pitch-by-pitch detail, far more detail than could ever be reported on ESPN or NESN or any newspaper -- is astounding.
"It is absolutely a threat to traditional media. That's one of the main reasons why sportswriters constantly make fun of the idea: "Schilling got shelled because he was up late chatting with his "little internet friends"." Stuff like that. (Yet these same writers have their stories up on the web and they offer blog-like posts during the games. So why are they making fun of it? And why do they make fun of computers, when just about every fan owns one?) ...
"There is the possibility that fan x will use his short amount of internet time to read 38 Pitches instead of Joy of Sox, but there are things that fan blogs will do -- stats, analysis, historical posts, venting after a loss -- than will not appear in a blog like Schilling's."
I definitely gave the guy a book. Maybe my book was even longer than yours, and that's why one of my quotes made it.... That would be cool if he does a separate article.
Good. We get what looks like a good announcing team. When can you say that about Fox?
Never?
Alright, one day we're talkin' about dongs ... now it's street meat.
It could be a great article. It's a fascinating subject. And he's -- David Laurila -- a good writer/interviewer.
Feast of San Gennaro beats Feast of St. Anthony 11-3. (in days)
Maybe my book was even longer than yours, and that's why one of my quotes made it
let's hope no one calling himself a writer decides what to use based on that
I think the ThreadSox board can work -- Cakey did a fantastic job in building it, though I'm not sure if he's going to keep it running
Thank you. Yeah, I'm gonna keep it going. I wasnt planning on having game threads there but if people keep starting them thats cool.
I hope you don't mind if I spam the address every once in a while, if I actually have something interesting posted there.
Also, I hope you, the users at home, drop by from time to time and check it out.
Call Mr. http://threadsox.com thats the name, that name again is Mr. http://threadsox.com
I'm not a big Girardi fan, personally. Only seen him a few times as a non-YES guy, though. But I'm pretty sure he annoys me and talks way too much. We'll see if I like him more today.
I think of it as "Threatsox." Like, "Hey, we might go over there....." And everyone was like, No no, it's okay, we'll do better! Just keep it here and it'll be good, we swear!
good going, cakey, i'm glad you're keeping it.
let's hope no one calling himself a writer decides what to use based on that
Nah, Jere probably wrote 1,000 words on Booberry Crunch and that's like Laurila's favorite cereal or something.
threatsox LOL
But yeah, for what it is, I'm, uh, sure it's a fine board, cakey.
Dustin goes for the fences, but foul.
y'know, i referenced bewitched the other day, and i was disappointed jere didn't respond.
I'm pretty sure he annoys me and talks way too much.
That's my attitude about everyone on the planet.
Just meant, maybe he thought, oh no, I'm only allowed to put like two quotes in the article. Who wrote the most?
Booberry Crunch, ha
Nice op field hit, Coco!
WTF?
I used "dongs" and "street meat" in a sentence -- and nothing.
" I'm pretty sure he annoys me and talks way too much.
That's my attitude about everyone on the planet. "
Me, too!
Bewitched: More of a "my (older) sister" show.
I used "dongs" and "street meat" in a sentence -- and nothing.
i rolled my eyes, does that count?
Bewitched: More of a "my (older) sister" show.
Pfft. Young'uns. It's a classic for all ages.
Wow, Papi desperately trie to hold up. Ball goes into fair territory for the out.
HA! I got the game on MLBTV.
man gameday sucks
My sister named her cat Tabitha.
come on, nix, you can cope.
wow - that 0-2 pitch to manny was strike 3 for sure. thanks mr. ump.
i just havent had to do it in a while...thats all.
SLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW
yes it was a strike. too bad that ball didn't dunk in.
it is slow. and it likes to freeze at crucial moments.
Looks like Fox missed a throw to first
I'll ask this again:
Who was the philosopher someone was talking about in here recently? (French, German?) I didn't know who he was and someone posted a bio. Nix or Cakey, maybe?
his name began with an N? 5 letters maybe.
What the hell happened to Cash?
Lost grip on ball. That's a shame on a pitchout
i assume it wasn't nitzsche, b/c you would know him. (and that is probably spelled wrong)
Oh! Cost Wake a strike, making it look like a ball the way he caught it
nietzsche
i spelled it like the musician jack, not the german philosopher
But yeah, for what it is, I'm, uh, sure it's a fine board, cakey.
WTH Jere. I did the board for YOU GUYS. And yes it was alot of work and I was hoping YOU people would enjoy using it.
2 away
I don't need some stupid Red Sox Nation card to validate my fanship of the Red Sox. Take a look at these pictures, which I took this afternoon at a specialty foods store I was in for about 5 minutes. These are the types of products that I notice. (There was probably more, but I was only there for a short amount of time, and only want to waste a finite amount of my life taking pictures like this)
allan, i think no one cares but you :)
Look, man, I don't like message boards. That's just me. I appreciate you doing it, I just never had any interest.
3 out
tim, maybe you can just tell us about the pics. you need a login to view them.
Why don't you just TELL me the name of the movie...
Fucking weather. Bye bye dish.
Do any of these look familiar?
I wanted to include the name in list I put in the post today. I clicked through all the games in August, but couldn't find it. Ah well.
And futhermore. The site was meant to compliment this site not compete with it. The ONE thing I didnt want it to be used for was game threads.
It was supposed to be mainly for the 150 other things discussed in gamethreads that might warrent a topic of their own.
jean-luc!

Cakey, you have a right to be offened , those comments were uncalled for.......Nice job, Thanks.......
Non.
Fuckers, I'm blacked out AND I LIVE IN FUCKING MASSACHUSETTS. Fuckers.
I agree. There's such a thing as keeping comments to oneself.
I'm blacked out AND I LIVE IN FUCKING MASSACHUSETTS.
Wow. How does that work? What do you get on your local Fox affiliate?
I was trying to acknowledge that I'm sure he did a good job of it, I just had no interest in it.
The ONE thing I didnt want it to be used for was game threads.
I didn't realize that. (Did anyone else?)
I thought you specifically wanted it for game threads because they were too unwieldy here.
zizek
I mentioned David Hume, but that was months ago. And he's neither German nor French.
I was trying to acknowledge that I'm sure he did a good job of it, I just had no interest in it.
Your first comment was trying to do that? Come on.
tim, maybe you can just tell us about the pics. you need a login to view them.
Really? damn. Alright, go to my blog and I've posted them there.
Zizek!! Yes.
Hey Cakey, I like your site b/c it will let my avatar show (whenever I have something to say). For some reason, Blogger won't upload it.
I live in the Berkshires, so I think Fox is from Albany.
Grrrrrrr.
Now David Hume, that's a good mention, too. It's not every baseball blog that gets a David Hume mention.
Altho I'm proud to have contributed a South American dictator reference.
After I said the "threatsox" thing I wanted to acknowledge cakey's effort. I wasn't trying to be mean. Like if someone made a steak or something for everyone. I couldn't pretend to like it because I'm a vegetarian, but I'll still acknowledge the thought of it.
(I also thought it was mainly for game threads.)
MLBTV workin' fine for me in Canada...
I live in the Berkshires, so I think Fox is from Albany.
ugh
I thought you specifically wanted it for game threads because they were too unwieldy here.
Me too.
My first comment which you thought was funny.
MLBTV workin' fine for me in Canada...
but your stupid satellite crapped out. if you weren't rogers-phobic you could get the game on cable. but nooooo... :)
Heh, even if i wanted rogers cable, i couldn't get it here - a local provider is in charge of cable. We don't have rogers (praise jesus).
this was your first comment
But yeah, for what it is, I'm, uh, sure it's a fine board, cakey.
i didn't find it funny, i found it unnecessarily snarky. just my opinion, doesn't have to mean anything to anybody.
I'm sure if I plugged in my regular cable, supplying my internet, i could get it too...but then i would not be able to follow this wonderful concoction of thought.
Yay - I replaced Zappa with Zizek.
Meaning I took one look at the front page so I wouldn't even know! I just don't like message boards.
well at least jesus is coming in handy for something, keeping rogers out of the tim household
zappa and zizek together would be good alliteration
OK Satellite's back and is about 15 seconds faster than MLBTV right now....Count is at 2-2 on sat and 0-2 on MLBTV.
coco's got it
zizek isn't french or german. poor slovenians, nobody remembers them.
Red Sox didn't "let" anybody into the race, guy. Girardi corrects, nice.
Red Sox didn't "let" anybody into the race, guy. Girardi corrects, nice.
Heh, just about to comment on that. At least one announcer realizes it.
explanation for us poor slobs following on gameday?
nice catch manny. we go 3.
Just that. Guy said we "let the Yanks back in the race." Girardi said, "Sox didn't do poorly, Yanks were just winning like crazy."
cool
Aight, after this half I gotta get ready and go do obligatory family shits. Probably will catch parts of the game but this is pretty much it for today.
Cash in now, honey
I actually heard someone say "he gone" on that strikeout, imitating the Hawk
Wow. MLBTV is 3 pitches behnd Gameday -- which is usually 1-2 pitches behind the live action.
almost, Dusty
And with over-the-air Fox, I'm probably even further ahead. Should I wait a beat before giving plays away?
MLBTV is 3 pitches behnd Gameday -- which is usually 1-2 pitches behind the live action.
the one time i had mlbtv and regular tv (EI) on at the same time, mlbtv was often a full batter behind. guy was on deck on the computer, had already made an out on tv
Another reason to root for the Yanks not to make the playoffs. They won like crazy after June 1, but still fell short. Therefore ... THE GAMES YOU WIN IN APRIL ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE ONES IN SEPTEMBER! Baseball wisdom is timeless.
hey, what's the minimum number of pitches for you to consider an AB long?
like, allan and i always say there's no such thing as a 5-game hitting streak. gotta be at least 10 to be a streak. that's our own criteria.
what's yours for a long AB? was that a long AB for Ococ, 8 pitches? in your opinion.
wake's lookin' good today
depends. if it's 0-2 with seven total pitches, all foul, before the final pitch, that's a "longer" AB than a 3-2 count with eight total pitches.
but the general 8 zone is about right. 9 is def long.
hmm. context-dependent counting. interesting.
Oh right, Cash wears the regular batting helmet forward while catching. But a flapless one.
nice job this inning wake!
I'd actually say 8 pitches is right. Once you've got a full count and a couple foul balls, you're workin'.
8 pitches is a long AB, but a short inning. Sounds about right to me.
Damn, Tim's gone. I was gonna ask him to pick up some Mirabelli pesto for me.
Fox shows a replay of a Wakefield pitch -- and of course has to have the sponsor's paint roller go across the screen -- and they just about miss Wake's strike 3 pitch to Fields to end the inning. At which point, it's off for more commercials.
Papi about to get tagged by pitcher, turns and just runs to dugout. Awesome.
and of course has to have the sponsor's paint roller go across the screen
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
haha, Beueueuehehhrrle was laughin'
sorry to use the word "awesome," Lgirl.
mirabelli pesto, cooked slooooow, the old-fashioned way
sorry to use the word "awesome," Lgirl.
aw hey jere, no worries. context is everything.
anything papi does is awesome.
nice.
Wow, Youk hit both legs with one foul ball, then did the limp on each leg in turn.
I posted about a 17-pitch AB recently.
One year I kept a list of long-AB. I fed Jayson Stark some info now and again. I think the cutoff for me was 12 or 13. After a certain number, the number of occurences drops way down.
Only 3 ABs today over 6 pitches:
Yook 7 in 2nd
Richar 7 in 2nd
Ococ 8 in 3rd
I'd say it's gotta be at least 10. Otherwise, you've got 2-3 long AB every game.
I'm in Florida and just missed that whole half-inning due to some crazy t-storm warning that pre-empted my fox coverage...it's amazing reading this thread how many different ways there are to get screwed out of watching the red sox...
allan, i knew you'd say double-digits.
jayson stark referred to you in a column as "allan wood, a guy who keeps track of long at-bats for the fun of it..."
not sure you were even blogging then.
lefty pitching...ugh
mike l, you're not the famous mike who once invited us to ft myers, are you? i'm still trying to track down that guy.
nah, you're not him. what are the odds.
No-I'm in Orlando...
I feel this ump's missing a lot of strike calls. But I'm biased. But wow, lots of these look just fine. He's getting fooled I think.
Nice! 2 gone
Cash is doing much better this time. Good call by Girardi.
oh that is horseshit! these are strikes!
gettting about time for somebody to do that "buehrle is throwing a shut-out" thing
Eh, we'll get to Buerhleuele next inning. Or we won't. Whichever means we will.
just givin the heads up
Oh I just saw that paint roller swipe. Most ridiculous thing since "advertising on the middle line of a split-screen."
wake really looks nasty...just need the bats to get goin'...
I believe according to the fox announcers the "meaty third of our order" is coming up...get ready for some dongs...
yes. bats, pls get going.
I thought meaty third was last inning.
Did you know that
MARK BUEHRLE IS PITCHING A SHUTOUT!!!

Kielty, Cora & Cash are meaty?
Okay.
oh yeah, my bad...I missed last half inning 'cause of thunderstorms. Definitely wouldn't call bobby kielty part of anybody's "meaty third"
