Devil Rays - 000 100 000 - 1 4 0and
Red Sox - 000 000 002 - 2 7 0
Orioles - 014 114 100 - 12 13 1It's a shame -- all those fans who leapt off the Tobin the other day missed a great game.
Yankees - 000 000 000 - 0 2 1
Lester opened with three balls and a walk, but settled down quickly. Four strikeouts in the first two innings. Excellent curveball and changeup. He allowed only two hits, both in the fourth, when a sac fly brought in a run for the Rays. Lester's line: 7-2-1-1-4, 97.
Kazmir (6-4-0-3-8, 94) kept the Sox off the board for six innings. The team had no real rally until the bottom of the ninth.
Al Reyes got a gift strikeout of Manny (the pitch was both low and inside). Lowell crushed a high 2-0 fastball to deep left to tie the game 1-1. Youkilis was caught looking (on an actual strike three) before Varitek lined a ground-rule double (7-pitch AB) into the right field corner. Crisp (another 7-pitch AB) lined a single to right field. Young's throw from right was weak and up the first base line and Tek slid in safely with the game-winner.
5 GA. Magic #: 39.

Scott Kazmir (3.58, 128 ERA+) / Jon Lester (6.43, 70 ERA+)
Jon Lester will make his first start at Fenway Park in almost a year (August 18, 2006 against the Yankees).
After a strong performance against Cleveland on June 23, Lester has slumped: four runs in 6.2 innings (Tampa), four runs in five innings (Seattle) and five runs in 3.1 innings (Angels). "For some reason, the last couple of starts, I've been getting away from fastball command on strike one and it's really hurt me."
Julio Lugo is 10-for-20 in his last five games, with three doubles and six RBIs. In his last 11 games, he's hitting .378 (17-for-45).
Kazmir has allowed only one run in his last 19 innings. ... Tampa Bay is 2-17 at Fenway since July 19, 2005. ... Boston has 44 games to play -- 11 of them are against the Devil Rays.

Great article in the Union Leader today: here. On point to what we were discussing yesterday. :)
Thanks for that link!
Notice they played "Can't Wait One Minute More" by CIV as the intro to the game? That dude from CIV was in Judge, who covered that Blitz song, and Blitz was in the Oi scene, influenced by the Cockney Rejects who started when they heard "God Save the Queen" by the Sex Pistols.
NESN is totally on to my "Lester looks like Sid Vicious" thing. Totally.
that sounded good off flo's bat. is he not doing enough 'roids? :>)
"...and the Red Sox strand a pair" (yet afuckinggain)
young hit by pitch on right foot, but umps call it a ball and maddon can't get them to change the call. then young K. yay.
BAL gets a run in the 2nd off Karstens and his 10+ ERA.
He walked Millar and Huff and Payton got an RBI single.
meanwhile after falling behind his first batter 3-0 and walking him, lester has retired 6 in a row, 4 by k. excellent curve tonight.
did don just say kazmir pitches against the red sox 19 times a year?
Get well soon, Youk. We miss you.
Aubrey Huff grand slam. Ha ha.
Huff grand slam in the 3rd!!!
O's 5-0
68 ptches as karstens continues in the 3rd. mfy pen up.
let's get some runs ourselves.
Nice catch, Coco.
Mora on third, one out. Would love to tack on a 7th.
Aubrey-ana Huff-ington almost hit the foul Post for the near-Beltway Birds tonight.
good thing for coco that pena pulled up short and let him take it.
BATS!!!
There it is, Payton sac fly. 7-0 us.
"us" meaning "not them"
can we get a couple few runs and not let this chance pass to boost the lead?
red dot at 81 pitches
My them's them is my us. Or something.
Yeah, we need to get to Georgie Peorgie soon.
if remy thinks pimping his site will help the sox score, why do we ever lose?
Good point! Wouldn't shutting up about RDN truly change our luck?
Loaded, no out for Huff.
8-0 -- and BAL has bases loaded with 0 outs in the top of the 6th.
9er to 0.
rats - no second slam.
bottom 3rd -- tek-ococ-wmp -- we could really use a run.
red dot out - let's pound the pen.
Glover in for TB. Sweet. Didn't work for us last time What's this red dot? came out. This time, we come through. 10-0 O's.
red dot - seinfeld episode with the cashemre sweater.
it's not from the last season, so you might not be a fan of it!!!
No I was doing a line from the show--how they kept saying "What's this?"
That's why I called him Georgie Peorgie before:)
Yanks walk in 11th run.
Who's got Papi tonight?!
oops.
Boss: I'm going to get right to the point. It has come to my attention that you and the cleaning woman have engaged in sexual intercourse on the desk in your office. Is that correct?
George: Who said that?
Boss: She did.
George: Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ingnorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frouned upon, you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time.
Oh J.D. Drew ...
You swing meekly,
Your grounders roll weakly,
Just tell me sometime soon you're due!
Who's got Papi tonight?!
Someone named "Ahop".
ABBA poetry. But that was a hard-hit ball by Drew.
Punk Night at Fenway:

followed by MDC
...
and not-Black Flag warming.
Hello all. occasional interloper here. I'm visiting my folks on the west coast and am having actual internets for the first time in 4 days.
-----
can't believed I never noticed MDC before! punk indeed.
MDC has not looked sharp, but damn I don't like seeing Timlin here wih the bases loaded.
Hey, his middle name is August!
Nice!!!!!
Runs PLEASE!
BAL's run total going like an odometer (12-0 now).
Can we get a fucking rally?
Ooh it's Dimmer time!
Given the way Kazmir continues to manhandle the Red Sox you would think they would try to play a little small ball against him (and yes, Coco did try to bunt).

horseshit call on manny.
LOWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay.
The Doctor has just left the Building.
YES!!!!!!!! LOWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!
woohoo! lowell goes deep!
c'mon YOUK!!!
LOWELL!!!!!!
now that was a strike. crybaby yook.
C'mon, Tek!
Just think, if Manny had gotten the call, that'd have been a walkoff.
TEK!!!
yahhh - not enough distance but ococ gets his chance.
Just think, if Manny had gotten the call, that'd have been a walkoff.
i never agree when announcers say this. would be whole different pitch selection and AB options for lowell.
reyes = mfy reject.
Yay.
OCOC YBAB!
OCOC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOHOOOO!!!!!!
Haha yes... gimme "5"!!! ;)
5 game lead!
Thank you, Orioles!
Gagne strikes out the side. Lowell homers in the bottom of the ninth. Tek and Coco get it done. Friggin sweet.
Lowell no doubt is the MVP of this team.....has so many big rbi's...
Timlin, came up big tonight....
That was fun........now they roll....
Tek and Coco great ab's......
oh sure.. I get kicked outta the coffee shop in the top of the 9th (they were closing). I finally hook up at a bar with a beer and some wifi and.....
I miss the 9th! gameday anyways. I like it when they win.
final in NY
BAL 12 13 1
NYY 0 2 1
What a great end to an evening. Keep rolling sox!
Can it be? Did we actually win on a night the Yankees lost? Fuck Yeah!
Come-from-behind win - Lester sharp - Timlin great - Gagne fine - Yanks get trounced.
A great night!
Maybe now a few people can get talked off the ledge. :)
That was awesome!
I think the Yankees were trying to honor Rizutto by losing by 10 runs tonight, but they got a bit carried away.
Gagne, Eric BOS (1-0)
That looks really pretty.
Just what we needed today....
Now 2-41 when trailing after 8 innings.

On the brighter side:
72-47
Best in the bigs.......
Listened to the last few on XM, Boston feed. I guess that quote you mentioned in the Rizzo post about being able to lie on the radio was proven tonight; they said that the Yook K in the 9th was "ankle high" and worse than the Manny K.
Nice result @ the toilet bowl tonight too.
WOW!!!!!!!!!
I was at the ballyard tonight and I'm so glad I splashed the $65 for a cheap seat...this game was worth getting ripped off by a lowlife scalper for.
Gotta love it!
maybe yook's was a hair inside, maybe, but it was belt high. i'm going to assume all his bitching was at himself for taking.
manny's was quite low and quite inside. no way it was near the zone.
Two day games tomorrow! We could be 6 up by dinner time. I'm gonna do that thing that can be annoying, but bear with me: After tomorrow, let's go cons. and say we're still 5 up. Between then and the Yanks series, each team has two 4-game series and a 3. If both teams split the four-gamers (ours against LA and Chi, theirs both against Detroit), and we get 2 of 3 from Tampa and they lose 2 of 3 to LA, we're 6 up going into a 3-gamer against the Yanks. Meaning even if they take 2, we're still 5 up.
That's kind of like the middle-of-the-road result. I figure we end up better off than that. But even if all the games go like that, we're in good shape. But hopefully Detroit can pound the Yanks in those 8. And they do a west coast trip while we don't.
Also, Tim, it was Phil Rizzuto, not Frank Rizzo:) Don't make me come down there for you either, tough guy!

Hahaha, i was more thinking along these lines... when i wrote that :-P
lmao. just watched the highlites of the Lowell HR and Coco single on MLB.com...NESN, gotta love it.
Lowell HR:
Don makes the call, Don makes the call again on the first replay...pause...Jerry opines with some technical specs on the play
Don on the Coco single:
"Here comes CAPTAIN VARITEK!!!"
"And the Red Sox w-alk off with the win!"
One final musing before I completely and utterly pass out from exhaustion...
Hmmm... not sure how credible it is (seems it to me), but interesting.
