Last four innings: 25 baserunners, 14 hits, 9 walks, 14 runs. Nine men batted in the 6th and 14 more batted in the 8th.
Two of the batting stars:
Lowell: 4-for-6, 2 runs, 2 RBI
Kielty: 3-for-5, walk, double, 1 run, 4 RBI
Wakefield allowed a single to his first batter, then did not allow another hit until there was one out in the 7th inning (7-3-0-3-6, 112).
We are rolling: 11-3, 10-1, 14-2, ... It's the first time the Red Sox had scored 10+ runs in three consecutive games since July 3-5, 2000 (11-8, 14-4 and 11-8 at Minnesota).

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 568 of 568mmm, i love the smell of SEVEN GAMES UP in the afternoon, don't you?
Second time the Sox have batted around in this game.
After this game, Ozzie can amend his quote: now it'll be 15 hours!
where are the trolls, i wonder...
Ozzie don't surf.
Too bad Charlie Manuel's gone.
After this game, Ozzie can amend his quote: now it'll be 15 hours!
Red Sox radio was wondering the same thing. "Usually he has some quote after these type of games"
Speaking of homers, I wonder how the Hawk is handling all this?
Before Cora K'd, it was 20 out of 25.
4-pitch walk to load bases, down 11-0. Ouch.
1 hit thru 5 innings
then
20 out of 25 guys reach base -- 11-0.
We need a nickname for him. Fro? Flame? Anyone?
Ronald as in Ronald McDonald.
1st time Sox have scored 10+ runs in 3 straight games since July 3-5, 2000
That's what they called him in Oakland, according to...someone I heard yesterday, forget who.
No Ronald McFuckingdonald.
I think Cakey suggested 5-ball.
I'm surprised Ozzie's coming out. At this point I could have seen him sending the pitching coach out to make the change.
Not sure of the protocol here, but there's a Sox-related post on wmtc now. Is there a word Soxosphere (the Sox blogosphere)? If not, I just coined it in comments.
ozzie must want to use jere dungeon
Ronald is a cute nickname, but it's poisoned by corporate association.
whats wmtc?
I like the Jere dungeon idea! Kinky.
ha! Funny, I don't even think of the ol' dunge when it's the other team walking guys.
wmtc is my blog. i'm not pimping for it. i just share a few readers w/ joy nation.
flame fro-er
The way this thing is going the Yankees will be losing by the time this one's over.
Afte the bases loaded BB, I'm surpised Ozzie didn't come out with a bat in his hands.
Who here thinks the division lead will touch double digits again before the season is over?
I know I'm raising my hand.

Who here thinks the division lead will touch double digits again before the season is over?
I know I'm raising my hand.
I'm keeping my hand down until the Yankees series is over with.
flame fro-er is good
" Afte the bases loaded BB, "
which one?
36 minute half-inning. And counting... as is the scoreboard.
is tito going to apologize?
another walk!!!!
i want 31!!!!!
flame fro-er. I like that one too. Especially if he grows that 'fro back out.
jd can't take a pitch???????
With Coco's BB, the last 23 of 29 Sox have reached base. 13 have scored.
How ugly (actually beautiful, but I'm trying to look at it objectively) can an inning get? 2 HBP, 2 wild pitches, 4 hits, 5 walks, 2 runs walked in... and it's not over yet.
OK,now it is.
usually people yell at drew for taking - "can't he swing his bat??"
now they yell at him for swinging
I feel like Tito put Drew in as a personal favor to Ozzie...just to end his pain
ofer--Not many games have a line like that.
I know, but after watching that inning, it was probably worth watching one or two...and it's not like he saw a strike
to think this was a shut-out for a long time. kinda like how the 30-3 game started out 3-0.
is tito going to apologize?
I can't believe I forgot that.
I think he sent Drew up to PH as a way to finally end the inning.
How do you swing at 3 straight pitches (and all balls, according to gameday) after 3 consecutive walks?
Of course, it's 13-0, so it's nothing to get upset about.
mike l, i know you're right. i'm just still pulling for drew. don't know why, but i am.
so it's nothing to get upset about
that's part of my point.
i get mad when anyone swings at the 1st pitch and grounds out or pops up. manny does it all the time these days. (or so it seems to me.)
me too...i want to like drew in the worst way...but hes making it really tough. i cant image that nixons numbers are much worse and at least nixon dove for balls once and a while.
is tito going to apologize?
I can't believe I forgot that.
that's what i'm here for
almost 450 comments before the nyy game even starts...!
mike l, i know you're right. i'm just still pulling for drew. don't know why, but i am.
Me too, but I've sort of given up for the rest of this season. He's still got a pretty swing.
nice scoop, Youk
i cant image that nixons numbers are much worse and at least nixon dove for balls once and a while.
i felt that nixon was so overrated for many years. since i had no great history w/ him, maybe that's why i can give drew more of a chance. maybe the drew-hating is trot-missing?
maybe drew just needs a dirtier cap.
I'm on MLB-audio today--how's Cash been doing catching Wake? Castig and Geffner haven't mentioned him that much so I'm assuming he's doing fine. If so, that's a nice bonus.
and at least nixon dove for balls once and a while
If I recall, a lot of them often bounced 15 feet in front of him and rolled far away. Drew has been a huge upgrade in the outfield.
yeah nixon never lived up to expectations...but he was still my favorite player.
better feilder than drew at least.
Well, on the flip side, you can't have first pitch hits without first pitch outs... I can recall a certain first pitch grand slam I wouldn't want to undo
Cash--big improvement over last time.
"Drew has been a huge upgrade in the outfield"
sorry you must be joking!
yeah nixon never lived up to expectations...but he was still my favorite player.
that's nice to hear. it's not usually rational.
i pull for drew too...my roommate loves him and calls him "mr clutch".
I think that's why i get so frustrated watching him...just want him to get it going before september.
Cash is doing very well behind the dish. The only times he has trouble happen to be when there are no men on. Of course, now that Wakefield is out of the game he can be more of a catcher than a goal-keeper.
Bye bye shutout.
I'll always love Trot.
Well, on the flip side, you can't have first pitch hits without first pitch outs... I can recall a certain first pitch grand slam I wouldn't want to undo
Of course there are exceptions. :)
Usually first-pitch swinging drives me nuts.
To me, Trot was protected from his bad fielding the same way Paul O'Neill was in his later years. "O'Neill plays it on a hop..."
true trot made some errors....but made some outstanding plays as well. pretty much what he became known for. i have seen drew fuck up some easy plays this year.
I am serious, sir.
Besides the pointless diving for balls he should have played on three hops, he took horrific routes to balls in the gap. Not to mention the times he forgot how many outs there were and handed the ball to kids in the stands when their were opposing runners on base.
He got on base a lot when he was healthy, but since he couldn't hit LHP, he was really half a hitter.
He got a huge free ride from the media.
I'll always love Trot.
I never saw the attraction, on any level.
it was trot's poor fielding that used to make the MUMS shit so infuriating to me!
their ----> there
arrrggggggg!
its ok....at least he never had a nickname that included the word "nancy".
just my opinion, i thought trot was a heck of a player.
well, clearly it came from somewhere, cause your opinion is shared by millions.
at least he never had a nickname that included the word "nancy".
:-)
Actually, now that I think of it, I can think of 2 first pitch grand slams- one a little bit more important than the other.
is this game over yet! gonna settle into some tigers kicking ass soon, then its off to see sonic boom from spacemen 3!
so who's mopping up?
ok, ok, i didn't say it's never ok to swing at the 1st pitch :)
One of Nixon's worse plays was when Boston was 5 outs from winning the 2003 pennant.
Jeter doubled into the right-center field gap -- it actually might have been catchable, but Trot decided to take the scenic route to that one.
That still pisses me off!
(Plus him doing exactly the same spacey shit that Manny would do - on the bases, in the field -- yet never having anyone mention it.)
4 RBI for Kielty. Huzzah!
Only 16 more runs to tie the record. Quick - somebody start the wave!
yeah that game was trot nixons fault.
ok, ok, i didn't say it's never ok to swing at the 1st pitch :)
Oh, I was kinda talking to myself there... didn't mean to push the issue. BTW, how do I write with italics here?
but the media's not his fault. (it's not jeter's fault either, but we won't go there.)
Just kidding Jere
ofer, i was only kidding.
you have to type in the html. look below the comment box, you'll see the codes for bold & ital.
or just use " ".
MFY start in about 5 minutes.
I'll have to get back to work, alas.
Dude you coulda gone to Thoms and then over to Midway. with a long dinner in between.
yeah that game was trot nixons fault.
Did I say that?
No, I did not.
It's a fuckin' strawman.
He also had two great catches in the 2004 ALCS- don't remember if it was in the 4th or 5th game.
Of course, a faster fielder with a better jump maybe wouldn't need to make a great play. He would just catch it.
Wait, what about me and the wave?
well im spending time with my gf as im leaving to go to boston tomorrow cause we're playing a gig with sonic at the middle east on tues (sorry dont mean to spam)
yeah that game was trot nixons fault.
no one here thinks that.
i can't even believe he wrote that. who cares about anything else that happened in that whole series
I always liked Trot, although he never did do too much for the team.
Maybe it's just cause he's a fellow NC'er
Trot's catch in 2004 ALCS was absolutely key. I remember Torre saying that was the key play of the series, before the world officially made it the Roberts steal. Which is right, but I'm just sayin, Trot really saved us there.
have fun! that sounds cool.
you implied it was a major factor doid you not? what else were you trying to say by that. whatever he helped us win in 2004 nuff said.
to put words in italics:
put (i) before and (/i) after the section. but use < and > insteda of ( and )
same thing for bold: b instead of i
And his PH HR was a HUGE part of the 2003 ALDS comeback!!!!
That doesn't discount what I wrote, though.
you implied it was a major factor doid you not?
who did? who is this addressing?
NICE. got the yankees game.
thanks
MFY starting up! that means lots of guiseppe franco!
Woot!
WoCS!
Wakefield 16-10 (longest string of decisions in MLB since 1993)
Sweep tomorrow!!!!
I am staying out of the Nixon vs Drew crap. They both were / are disappointments. The only break with Drew should be that 80% of the time he has never faced the pitcher, since it is his first year in the AL.
7 games up!!!!!
Bloody Panda. You guys sound like I'm coming back to life at my own funeral.
You can use that.
Kind of like, uh, Scarecrow by Ministry. I bet you scare the hell out of people.
Assuming that's your band.
I liked him enough, but I felt his faults were ignored by many people because he was a gritty, grimy, gamer with a scummy hat.
And one of his plays that burns me up to this day is that 2003 one. I can't forget it.
There was also a game against Baltimore (might have been 04?) where the Sox had the bases loaded and he got picked off second!!! With the bases loaded!!! Totally in space.
He did some great things, but he sometimes was also dumber than a box of rocks.
So, 11-3, 10-1, 14-2... I call 12-4 for tomorrow's game
Nice game -
enjoyed it all
Do you guys keep going thru the MFY?
I'll be around for Yanks. Some of it.
Mercy. It's ovah. 28 over .500, 7 games up, Yanks have to play 3 more to our 1 before Tues. My back's killing me, time to retire to the TV chair for a stress-free Yankee ass-kicking.
Wouldn't be surprised.
way off base jere: re the band. we are not bloody panda.
Anyone else getting the "Doorman" Seinfeld on their local Fox channel right now?
No NYY game here for me unless they're playing the Sox. Have fun! See y'all tomw.
Love the Doorman episode. Lots of good stuff in that one.
Oh, well the other 2 bands on that show are from Boston and that one was from NY where you said you live, so....
It's not really Nixon vs Drew, it's Nixon vs Nixon. Those who loved him (almost everyone) vs those who believe him over-rated (a few others).
Hey I can love guys who stink....
Freakin' Abreu.
kisses his hand and points to the sky lazily: abreu special
Hey I can love guys who stink....
Yup. Everyone loves who they love. It's knowing that the guy you love actually does stink, that's the tough part.
OK bye :)
I'm gonna check out as well. See you guys tomorrow!
what is this - comment 521?
yup - yank/tigers talk here
fucking matsui
stupid kid rock-lookin' Bonderman.
Thanks, Redsock.
Shit. Friggin Matsui
Ball four up in the eyes and kay says "A little high I guess?"
Matsui
Shemp. The man's name is Shemp.
2-1 mofos!
Tie it up Tigers
Ronald is a cute nickname, but it's poisoned by corporate association.
Hey! That's my name.
it's okay, got one back
The guy who runs his hand through his hair, says it feels like he has a full head of hair, then the split shot shows his huge bald spot, now that's comedy. I forget, what was supposed to give you hairy palms?
"Ey, Im Guiseppe Franco"
nice catch, I didn't think he'd get there. Let's get out of this at 3-1
way to pitch out of the jam!
i dont like the way this is going...
wang will fold soon
nice quick inning by kid rock
FUUUUUCK! they cant do shit vs. wang
Another scoreless inning. We get 'em back now!
I wish Leiter would just say to Kay: "Fer chrissakes, how can anyone in their right mind say that the Yankees don't benefit from the official scorer in Yankee Stadium?" Jesus.
nice, inge
Get at least one here.
PASSEDBALLA!
There's one.
FIELDING
PB: Posada (7).
nice. 3-2.
BIG FUCK RIGHT THERE.
Bonderman, you stink.
Well, that sucked. Lately I've been thinking that Leland's been resting on his laurels.
well 6.5 aint bad....
7.5 if the choking Yanks blow this.
i hope they do...but i'd find it hard to believe if they do.
I don't care what the MFY do as long as we keep winning. I'd rather see them lose, but whatever.
It's 6.5 or 7.5 tomorrow morning and another day is off the schedule.
32 games to go.
Maybe the Tigers can do the MFY pen what we did to Chicago.
Two innings left, 5 run lead. Place your bets: Will Mo be used?
Maybe the Tigers can do the MFY pen what we did to Chicago.
Or not.
After 8 innings and 107 pitches, will Torre yank his Wang?
Yes, her comes Bruney, fresh out of the minors. Maybe they'll break through against him.
Gameday showed that one almost over the wall...
6.5. We'll take it.
Yes we will.
If my numbers are correct Mike Lowell has reached base safely in all but 13 games he played in......and he has more doubles that strikeouts this month...
.324 92 rbi's ..MVP talk has to start with the media soon.....
The thing that caught me off guard or maybe I never realized it.I just thought he looked older .He is only 33... I'd give him 3 years 36 million today if he would take it....
AL MVP is either Magglio or Slappy.
Ortiz has been far more valuable in creating runs than Lowell, though the counting stats may not show it.
He might take 3/36. He probably wants 4 years though.
Ortiz has been far more valuable in creating runs than Lowell, though the counting stats may not show it.
I'll take a closer look at some point early next month.
redsock said...

Allright....Big series coming up..stay rested and well hydrated..
Shit I would like Ortiz to win it as well .......but we know they would never give it to him....
From a purely offensive standpoint, the Top 3 are Rodriguez, Ordonez and Ortiz.
They are 1-2-3, in that order, in Runs Created, Adjusted OPS+, and Slugging %.
Ortiz leads the AL in OBP.
Rodriguez is the MVP at this point. Anyone other than Slappy or Magglio is a bad pick.
In that Yankees blog I was talking about at the beginning of the wee-hours Yankee game, there were a lot of people who were referring to Magglio as the MVP. I just can't tell if they were mocking the Detroit fans or not. Has Yankee Stadium heard the MVP chant for A-Rod yet?
Not that it's up to the fans or anything, but it's interesting nonetheless. Still got a little ways to go.
I remember a day not too long ago when the Yankees were beating up on basement dwellers with scores reminiscent of the first three games of this series, while we still played decent baseball against decent teams.
Remember when we were told to heed to the warnings of the big, bad, unstoppable Yankee run machine pummeling all who stand in it's path?
Yeah. I remember.
I personally think it's torture to have to wait a whole day between the two series. From a completely selfish point of view.
But hey, the Yankees/Detroit game Monday night will be on ESPN2.
