G129: Red Sox 10, White Sox 1

SWEEP!

Tizzle: 4-for-5, 2 HR!, 3 RBI.

In both games, the White Sox starter breezed through the first three innings, but in the second time through the lineup, the Red Sox pounced. Boston scored a total of 9 fourth-inning runs today.

Also: It's 11 PM as I type this and the MFY-Tigers are close to starting.

***

Curt Schilling (4.25, 106 ERA+) / John Danks (5.30, 86 ERA+)

The East lead is 5.5. Magic #: 30.

In Detroit, it's Fat Billy / Andrew Miller at 7 PM.

Hot Rats is also a very good FZ album.

Another of my favorites.

OGC: I looked up at the game (which I have on mute) and saw Coco walking away after the strikeout. noticed the limp and thought it was a replay of the earlier K.

Ron said...

And I love Psychedelic Rock too, should be perfect.

allan said...

my gameday has frozen.

Ron said...

2 outs, Snyder just walkd Owens

Rob said...

Micah Owings just hit another home run for Arizona. The pitcher!

allan said...

Snyder?

I still have Lugo batting. (Though I am also working).

Bah.

Ron said...

3rd out was Fields(?) flying out to right.

nick said...

yeah my gameday's frozen on Lugo as well. Haven't been watching the game as closely as I should, but end of the 8th.

allan said...

I turned MLBTV on, that should still be going.

Rob said...

I'm watching Baseball Tonight on ESPN. But hey. Ortiz is up again.

Ron said...

Mine is frozen on Lugo batting too. Looks like they have a problem. The MLB Scoreboard paged at ESPN.com is frozen too.

Papi up.

Rob said...

Eric Gagné warming. Likely to pitch the 9th. He needs some work.

Rob said...

Ortiz 4 for 5 tonight! Very nice. Base hit through the shift between 1st and 2nd.

allan said...

FLO: 4 hits.

laura k said...

Everyone over a certain age must have known at least one person obsessed with Zappa.

I knew the reference, also b/c of a former obsessed friend.

4 hits for Big Papi!

Rob said...

Hinske just hit a double deep off the right field wall... Ortiz to third.

Ron said...

Double for Hinske! Line shot of right field wall, Papi to 3rd

Rob said...

More Red Sox runs are not unwelcome.

laura k said...

I don't think Radiohead obsession can even remotely compare to Zappa obsession. That shit was serious.

allan said...

Gameday is fucked.

Did Schilling go 6 or 7? First they said he went 7, now they have MDC going the 7th and dropped Curt's pitches from 112 to 98?

WTF???

laura k said...

Tarp is off in Detroit.

Ron said...

Remy just said he thinks MFY/Tigers has started.

9casey said...

Schill went 6 and 101 , i beleive

allan said...

Stayin' up for the NYY game? :>)

nick said...

A friend of mine who's about 10 years older than me gave me his record collection. The Zappa section is huge, including bootlegs and such. I haven't made a conscious crack at it since I got 'em.

laura k said...

I love the Grateful Dead, but couldn't stand "the scene."

I hated the scene so much it poisoned me to the music.

Turns out I don't really like the music anyway. But for a long time I couldn't get past the scene.

Not because of the drugs, mind you. I love drugs.

From a Yankees blog (rain updates)...

UPDATE, 7:50 p.m.: It’s still raining. I’m now plotting how long it would take to get to the casino if the game is called.

8:39 p.m.: The rain has stopped and the grounds crew is preparing to pull the tarp. And the casino managers breathe a sigh of relief as i won’t be cleaning them out until later on.

I’ll let you know when they announce a start time.

9:28 p.m.: This is odd. They pulled the tarp, cleaned up the field and now the tarp is back down.

10:28 p.m.: First pitch is now scheduled for … 11 p.m.

10:29 p.m.: Yes, I’m serious.

Ron said...

I think Schilling went six, then MDC for one, Snyder for one.

Dr. Doubles Singles.

laura k said...

More Red Sox runs are not unwelcome.

Ish, you are a master of understatement.

allan said...

A friend of mine who's about 10 years older than me gave me his record collection. The Zappa section is huge, including bootlegs and such. I haven't made a conscious crack at it since I got 'em.

I'll be right over.

mmmmmmmm ... bootlegs .......

laura k said...

Older friends' record collections are amazing things. I inherited the core of my own collection from older siblings. It gave me a base of knowledge at an early age.

Also good for impressing guys. (Right, Allan?)

Rob said...

Ish, you are a master of understatement.

I try, I really do.

laura k said...

9Casey, I mentioned you earlier - how your friends will have to use 2 hands to wave 6 fingers at you. At least 6, before the NYY game.

nick said...

One of my favorite bands, Spacemen 3, have an album called Taking Drugs to Make Music To Take Drugs To.

OGC: 11pm start time? They really don't want that double header. gack.

laura k said...

Why am I still here? I have work tomorrow.

Rob said...

It does look like Coco is limping.

Ron said...

I don't have any problem with the drugs either. I can't really explain what bugged me. Simple solution though, I just stopped going to shows.

And I agree about Radiohead - the Zappa thing was much more widespread and - hmmm - stickier? But Radiohead had three great albums, then decided "screw it, lets do what we like, regardless of what others think." I like that about them (although many have accused them of selling out - I can't see it). Same could be said of Nirvana's last album, In Utero. Commercial success was a pretty small part of the equation.

nick said...

Damn, oCoC.

Ron said...

Come on Tito, get Coco out of there and into a hot tub.

Rob said...

Chief--I think that's just he needs. Ball of the foot, ball off the shin... Yeah.

nick said...

I just don't want to see Gagne in a save situation in this game.

laura k said...

"screw it, lets do what we like, regardless of what others think."

that means everything, even if i don't care for the music. i can't listen to most of what elvis costello puts out, but i love that he does all these different things, goes in different directions, w/ no commercial considerations.

i haven't been able to get into radiohead. i keep thinking i should give them more of a chance, but when i try to, i get bored.

laura k said...

oCoC

fancy punctuation there :)

allan said...

OK Computer bored me. I would like to listen to Kid A and the more recent stuff (Hail to the Thief?)but do not want to pay for it.

Rob said...

Joe Castiglione: "Two thirds of the crowd is still here... probably because of the fireworks after the game. And a lot of them are Red Sox fans."

Gap shot for Dye but he stops at first. Is anyone paying attention to Gagné? I really haven't been.

laura k said...

ok laura, step away from the computer, you can do it...

g'night all. hasta mañana.

Rob said...

Woot!

allan said...

The White Sox are gone -- yay.

Ron said...

Try The Bends and Pablo Honey. The are both early and rather conventional in construction. But they have a deep sense of meloncholy, which always attracts me.

It took me awhile to get into them - listening while I worked mostly. I don't think they are energetic. Energetic meloncholy - that would be a neat trick Although I guess you could say that about Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Jere said...

Just got home. Ready for the game. Here we go.... d'oh!

Sweep!

nick said...

g'night and congrats!

nixon33 said...

LETS GO TIGERS! EH EH EHEHEH

Jere said...

I got updates on this game from Theo himself, though, at the concert.

Hey, we're talkin' about Pablo Honey?? Sweet. I loved that record, then they got all, you know, dumb.

Rob said...

Uribe play made #3 webgems tonight

Rob said...

**Que the crappy Yankees Radio intro music!**

bennymac said...

the worst radiohead album is worth twice the money you could spend on it. maybe more. kid a and amnesiac are very good...hail to the theif as well. they are supposed to be working on a new album. to the non-radiohead listener though, they are a tough listen.

Jere said...

Yanks 11 PM start--that is crazy.

Rob said...

Someone on a Yankees blog wrote, "LOL, they’re using Gagme in 10-1 games now?

Ah, how the mighty fall…"

We did just win 10-1. Haha. I think the mighty are still mighty. (Even Gagné with his decent inning.)

Jere said...

When Pablo Honey came out, they were a rock band. By the time Kid A came out, it was 'my mom saw in the New York Times that this band Radiohead is supposed to be solid...'

But still, I love Pablo Honey...

Rob said...

My favorite Radiohead songs: "Creep", "Fake Plastic Trees", and "Thinking About You"

Yeah, I will see most of those morons this week.....should be fun...

allan said...

Someone on a Yankees blog wrote, "LOL, they’re using Gagme in 10-1 games now? Ah, how the mighty fall."

In Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS, with Boston ahead 10-3, the Yankees brought in Mariano Rivera to get the last out of the 9th inning.

(Also, the PA blared Enter Sandman as he jogged in.)

Ron said...

to the non-radiohead listener though, they are a tough listen

True that.

And Jere, they did stop being a rock band after (during?) OK Computer. But they are still valuable (at least to me. My wife, not so much.

nixon33 said...

so weird, but i guess they wanted to avoid the day nighter on monday

There's more rain headed to Detroit. And the Yanks have 1st and 2nd.

Expect a rain-shortened evening tonight for those Yanks.

nick said...

Kid A still's my favorite, but I don't think they've put out a bad album. I liked "Creep" when it came out, enjoyed the progression in sound that I heard, but the first time I played Kid A it filled key portions of my brain (and no, I wasn't on anything at the time).

9casey said...

It's not wierd its bullshit..they should have played the DH tommorrow

9casey said...

I wonder if Cash will catch back to back games......

nixon33 said...

9casey
THEY CANT cause of the fox window....and cant on sunday cause espn window. THATS bullshit.

Ron said...

So who's call was it, the White Sox or the umpires? I think since the game hadn't started yet, it was the WS decision, but I'm not sure.

Maybe they thought making Fat Billy sit around for 4 hours would give them an edge.

Rob said...

I think Cash will catch tomorrow, and this was probably planned. That's my guess. He looked very good catching Wake last time.

nixon33 said...

UMPs/MLB cause its the last time they face eachother

Ron said...

Ah, TV, I should have known.

Rob said...

Big threat in 1st inning but the Yankees did not score. Getting away with murder...

Andrew Miller will probably go 5 or maybe 6 innings again.

Ron said...

UMPs/MLB cause its the last time they face eachother

Gotcha.

nixon33 said...

Michael Kay just said it was "Disgraceful" that they made the fans wait four hours...

9casey said...

No afternoon baseball on Saturday is completely ridiculous....Fox should let everyone play in the afternoon and then have a prime time game,,,,,,,

9casey said...

nixon33 said...
Michael Kay just said it was "Disgraceful" that they made the fans wait four hours...

I actually agree with him......

Rob said...

I wish Fox would play a couple of games on Saturdays like they used to. 1:05 and 4:05--something like that.

He's not Anderson.... He's Grrrranderson! (Leadoff Double)

nixon33 said...

its true...but its major league baseballs tv rules thats disgraceful.

Rob said...

Extremely disgraceful. I feel like I'm leading a charmed life when I can watch an extra game here or there on basic cable (See: Braves TBS)

9casey said...

nixon33 said...
its true...but its major league baseballs tv rules thats disgraceful.

Fox pays a buttload of money for that game.....so I can see their point......this had to be Leyland and Torre ,,,,,they are both fighting for a playoff spot and no way they want a dh, especially on Monday.when the sox come to town on Tuesday after a day off.....

Rob said...

MAGS!!!!! DONG!!!

nixon33 said...
