G111: Red Sox 9, Mariners 2

All of the top four teams in the East won today. Sorry, Tampa Bay.

The Red Sox bats came alive: doubles from Coco (2), Youkilis, Lugo, Cora, Pedroia; a triple from Drew; and a home run from Manny. Eight of the 13 hits were extra-base hits -- or, as they used to call them, long hits. The Mariners staff also doled out eight walks.

Beckett (6.2-8-1-2-9, 107) pitched out of several minor jams, before Jeemer, MDC and Synder finished up.

***

Josh Beckett (3.41, 133 ERA+) / Miguel Batista (4.23, 100 ERA+)

Batista has allowed three or fewer earned runs in 15 of 21 starts this season. He has not started against the Red Sox since August 24, 2004; his last appearance against Boston was on September 29, 2005. Both Manny Ramirez (8-for-20, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and David Ortiz (6-for-16, 2 HR, 7 RBI) have hit him well.

The Red Sox (67-43) are the only team playing .600+ ball. They have also lost the fewest road games of any team (23).

No bot today! Probably stick with jeemer then go to MDC or Snyder.

Could it be? Could we actually win two in a row at Safeco this year? Nice.

If this game were at Yankee Stadium, and on Yes, we'd be seeing the clock showing 7:00 on the scoreboard right now.

7-1. This is sweet.

Come on, let's pile it on.

No MDC, please. He only seems to do well in pressure-packed situations, like when we're only up one. I'd go Timlin with this lead for one of these last two innings.

Off 2Bman's glove, cost them a run because he slowed the ball up.

8-1? I feel safe seeing Timlin.

Sox adding to their expected win total:)

Are DJ and JD coming to this party, s1c?

Somebody tell 'em not to throw it to Tina with two outs...

god. I hate those stories...almost as bad as the guy and his dog during the all-star game.

is the 3rd person in the broadcast team *ever* necessary? i mean, do they ever do anything or say anything useful?

Jere said...

Man, Youk says Here's aan easy grounder, I'm not gonna go crazy trying to get to first, it's a free out basically. And 3Bman bobbles, but still has plenty of time, but then throws wild. Terrible.

What? A white guy didn't hustle? Say it ain't so.

no party, just the MIL and FIL came over to see the BH and Butterfly and play cards. DJ and JD are at soccer practices etc.

Good win for the Sox and first time since 1999 they won a series in Seattle woo woo!!!

I came here to say this (not reacting to s1c's last comment or picking on him or anything):

NESN keeps saying it's our first road series victory against the Mariners. I started doing the research, just cuz I wanted to see how we've done overall in Seattle, and sure enough, I get to 2000, and there's a 2-1 series win. 7/31-8/2. Sox take two out of three in Seattle. (The second game was the 19-inning loss, which I think was the cups-on-ears, shaving cream beard game.)

Looks like maybe McAdam started this rumor: http://www.projo.com/redsox/content/sp_bb_rsoxjo04_08-04-07_C86KG8V.34242d7.html

But NESN's definitely running with it. Also note, we tied both series' there in 2004.

I just realized what they meant: First time we've won a season series there since '99. I think they've been saying just "series," though, as did s1c, as we can see.

Jere said...

Okay, but wait again. We didn't win this season series. We only won this one series. They definitely effed up.
